Stoke City and Manchester United look to serve up an antidote to our Christmas hangovers as they do battle at the Britannia Stadium. The Potters have tasted victory just once in four outings, while the Red Devils enter this match-up off the back of consecutive defeats to newly promoted outfits.

Despite ranking third for big chances (10) over the last four Gameweeks, Stoke notched just three goals across that stretch. Indeed, the Potters’ convincing victory over Manchester City looks to be an outlier, given that they were bested by Sunderland and Crystal Palace either side of that encounter. On the defensive end, Mark Hughes’ men have conceded four goals and the joint-least big chances (three) since Gameweek 14. However, Man United will draw encouragement from the fact their opponents also placed third for shots inside the box conceded (36).

Only three teams carded fewer goals (three) than Louis van Gaal’s outfit over the last four Gameweeks, while only Norwich City (eight) managed fewer shots on target (10). Even though they’ve embarked on one more road trip than half the field, Man United still rank fourth-bottom for attempts (88) in away matches, which bodes well for the hosts’ clean-sheet prospects. Conversely, they chart third for big chances (18) beyond Old Trafford, which suggests that a slight calibration could enhance their attacking output. Maybe dropping Wayne Rooney to the bench is that required tweak.

Has anyone written a Tampermonkey script for FFS? I'd like to change the colour of upvotes, widen the page etc...

If not, I'll write my own...

Seriously what can United do now..
Sack LVG sounds sexy and all but it's not enough.

They are in such a hole atm with a very unbalanced squad.
    Tough times ahead..

Not sure the squad is "that" bad - it's thin granted but that was due to LVG usually working with small squads. It's quite evident when you lose any confidence in both yourself, the team set-up/transfers and the manager that things go sour quickly.

I agree. Some good players there but i guess your balls are out there when you spend the money he has so far. I'm not sure Jose would do much better in the long term you'll get 3 seasons out of him before he goes anyway.

A new manager effect should last about 10-12 games, could be just enough to make the top 4 I

'New manager effect' doesn't always work. We focus on the managers that change things around for the better and concentrate very little on those who fail to immediately steer the ship in the right direction. Are Sunderland, Villa or Liverpool magically pulling wins out left right and center just because of a manager change?

Sierra. Can't let this one go. Unbalanced squad? FFS how much money does it take to get it balanced? How much has LVG spent half a billion so far? Try being in mcClarens shoes. Nil spend for 2 or 3 transfer windows then last summer 30 or 40 mill spent on players he had no say in. I'm not a UTD hater but I have to say nufc fans are called fickle but this is ridiculous. Give the man your support for 3 seasons then look at it. Fergus took 5 after a huge outlay at the time 60 million or something).

Mark Hughes deserves alot of respect for what he's done for this Stoke team

    Shrewd transfers
    Attractive style of play
Gets the best out of under performing players

Similar to when he managed Blackburn

Good for Stoke to ignore the debacle at my club where we wasted a very good manager.

QPR fans love to hate Hughes but he's a good manager and I'm glad he's proving it now at Stoke.
