It’s time for our pre-Gameweek members article now, as we assess the leading captaincy contenders for the weekend ahead. We take a three-part approach that includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Fresh from his best score (14 points) of the campaign so far, Mesut Ozil boasts a commanding lead (47%) at the summit of the Captain Poll ahead of Arsenal’s home tie against Newcastle United. Aside from a blank against Southampton in Gameweek 18, the Germany international hasn’t failed to produce attacking returns since Gameweek 6, recording six 10+-point hauls in the process. The fact that the Magpies have already suffered two heavy defeats on the road this term (Man City: 6-1; Palace: 5-1) ensures that Olivier Giroud (4%) and Theo Walcott (2%) also place among the top 10 captaincy favourites.

Riyad Mahrez (20%) claims second spot by a clear margin prior to Leicester City’s home encounter against Bournemouth. The Algerian drew blanks against Man City and Liverpool in recent weeks but demonstrated his capacity for explosive returns with six goals in three starts from Gameweek 15. Similarly, Jamie Vardy (4%) hasn’t scored in three but will fancy his chances against a Cherries defence that’s carded just two shut-outs since Gameweek 7.

Sergio Aguero hasn’t lasted beyond the 65-minute mark since his return from injury, but his unrivalled ability to deliver huge Fantasy returns earns him a 4% backing. Although the Sky Blues are matched up against a Watford outfit that conceded just two goals in their previous trio of home clashes, Aguero’s 13% ownership will reason that fixture difficulty is extraneous if their man can discover his groove.

Harry Kane (4%) sits just outside the top five as Tottenham Hotspur prepare for a trip to Everton. The Toffees will doubtless cause Spurs a myriad of problems on the offensive end, but their defence has proved their undoing of late, shipping seven goals in two home match-ups. Furthermore, Roberto Martinez’s men lay claim to just two clean sheets in the last 14 Gameweeks, bolstering Kane’s Fantasy prospects.

Everton will hope that Romelu Lukaku (3%) emerges victorious as two of the league’s form marksmen duel at Goodison Park. The 9.3-priced frontman racked up 10 goals in nine starts but faces off against a Spurs side that ranks bottom for goals conceded (15) and secured two shut-outs in their previous trio of league ties.

Marko Arnautovic and Christian Benteke have been tipped by 2% of FFScout’s readership. The former tallied four goals and one assist in his last five starts, rendering him an enticing route into Stoke City’s effervescent attack ahead of a trip to West Bromwich Albion. The latter has netted in consecutive starts and locks horns with a West Ham team that’s registered just two clean sheets on home turf.

    Best defender 4.0 or under?

    A: Smith (4.0)
    B: Bennett (3.9)
C: Oxford (3.7) to prepare cash for Aguero/ Sanchez

Could also find 0.1 and get Simpson.

You think he can retain his spots when Elphick returns and Francis need to shuffle?

It wont be any replay of the LMS-final last year for us. :/

If Stoke can get 4 past Everton, then it surprises me that Kane is only at 4%. I think I'm going to choose him as a worthy captain differential.

Is it alright to bench Alli this week? Looks like he will take place of the injured Dembele in the double pivot, and maybe Son/Eriksen play as the number 10.

Need to bench an attacker out of:

    Mahrez / Ozil / Walcott / Arnie / Silva
    Kane / Lukaku / Giroud

Looks like one of Walcott / Giroud could be rested - but who knows which one. Therefore Silva is first sub - right option???

    Recipe for Jack Daniels Cookies
    amazingly more-ish

    Ingredients:

    1 cup of water
    Lemon juice
    1 tsp baking soda
    4 large eggs
    1 cup of sugar
    1 cup of nuts
    1 tsp salt
    2 cups of dried fruit
    1 cup of brown sugar
    1 cup Jack Daniels Whiskey

    1. Sample the Jack Daniels to check quality.
    2. Take a large bowl, check the Jack Daniels again to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.
    3. Turn on the electric beater.
    4. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.
    5. Add one teaspoon of sugar....
    6. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Jack Daniels is still okay. Try another cup, just in case.
    7. Turn off the mixerer thingy.
    8. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
    9. Pick the frigging fruit off the floor.
    10. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Jack Daniels for tonsisticity.
    11. Next, sift two cups of salt, or whatever. Who giveshz a sheet. Check the Jack Daniels.
    12. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.
    13. Greash the oven. Turn the cake 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner.
    14. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Dack Janiels and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.

Think it will show Ramsey has been poor and Walcott has been unlucky.

Think I'm going with the consensus and going for Ozil.

        Happy new year guys!!!

Am I right in thinking that only the Triple Captain and Bench Boost are the only chips worth saving for a double game week??

        Happy new year everyone!!!

Could use some help here: my defence is Koscielny (home vs Newcastle), Dann (home vs Chelsea), Morgan (home vs Bournemouth), Evans (home vs Stoke) and Francis (away vs Bournemouth).

I'm planning to play Kosc, Dann and Morgan, also considering that I've Arnautovic. Any thoughts?

Would you play Cresswell or Simpson?
