The next Suspension Tightrope of the season is already up and running after Newcastle’s Jack Colback earned his ninth caution of the campaign in yesterday’s 1-0 loss at the Emirates. If the midfielder is booked at any point between now and Sunday of Gameweek 33 (April 9), he’ll earn an automatic two-match ban.

With 18 rounds of league fixtures still to play out, Colback looks in line to break an unprecedented record – no player has ever amassed 15 Premier League bookings in a single season, with six players – Olivier Dacourt, Mark Hughes, Paul Ince, Robbie Savage, Cheick Tiote and Lee Cattermole – all accruing 14 over previous campaigns.

Colback is one of seven players on the New Year’s Tightrope. Norwich’s weekend match-winner Alex Tettey is tucked in just behind on eight yellows, whilst Liverpool midfielders Emre Can and Lucas sit on seven apiece, along with City’s Eliaquim Mangala, Stoke left-back Erik Pieters and Tottenham’s scorer at Everton, Deli Alli.

Elsewhere yesterday, a caution for Cattermole in Sunderland’s 3-1 home win over Villa means he has now earned 83 yellows in the Premier League – that takes him to eleventh overall in the list. United’s Wayne Rooney is eighth on 86 bookings, though Everton’s veteran midfielder Gareth Barry leads the way on 109 top-flight yellows.

In terms of team card counts, Villa’s four cautions yesterday means they are now level with Tottenham as the most culpable – both sides have collected 43 bookings, with Erik Lamela earning his sixth of the campaign at Goodison. West Brom are next best on 40 yellows.

Looking at the new bans, Bournemouth’s Simon Francis is set to miss next weekend’s FA Cup trip to Birmingham after he was sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity during the Cherries’ goalless draw at Leicester.

Post-match, manager Eddie Howe confirmed that, although he disagreed with the decision, he won’t contest Francis’ dismissal:

“I didn’t think it (Francis’ challenge) was a foul from my angle, he definitely touched the ball. It was a great recovery tackle. It’s not a foul, a penalty or a sending off. It was a very even game before that point, a high tempo game and very high quality. We had some great chances in the first half but when we went down to 10 men we showed character and it’s a great point for us. We won’t appeal the red card as it’s a one-game ban and the FA Cup is coming up.”

Victor Wanyama, meanwhile, will serve a two-match ban after he was dismissed in Southampton’s defeat at Norwich. The Kenyan has already been dismissed once this season (in Gameweek 11 at Bournemouth) and will therefore have his suspension extended by an additional match, which rules him out of the FA Cup encounter against Palace and the Gameweek 21 home match with Watford.

Wanyama took to social media to say sorry for his sending off after he came under post-match criticism from Saints boss Ronald Koeman:

“I would just like to apologise to the manager, fans and everyone at the club for my red card yesterday. It was reckless and irresponsible and I should have used my experience to have not let it happen, especially when I was on a yellow card. I now just want to focus on getting back on the pitch and helping the team as much as I can.”

Stoke’s Geoff Cameron is set to miss the next three domestic matches after he was sent off for violent conduct in the weekend derby loss at West Brom. The US international is sidelined for the upcoming Capital One Cup clash with Liverpool and FA Cup trip to Doncaster in addition to the Gameweek 21 home match against Norwich. Mark Hughes has suggested he may appeal the decision, though, with Cameron’s sending off meaning that the Potters have matched West Ham for total red cards (four) this season. Three of those dismissals have arrived against the Baggies, with Ibrahim Afellay and Charlie Adam also sent packing in a Gameweek 4 home loss to Tony Pulis’ team.

Those players join Watford’s Nathan Ake on the naughty step. The on-loan defender served the first of a three-match suspension during yesterday’s home loss to City and will also miss upcoming clashes with Newcastle (FA Cup) and Southampton (Gameweek 21) before returning to contention for the trip to Swansea on January 18.

You were right TM, if Ivan had blanked with 2 points, I would have been dead on 27. A rare Chelsea cleanie saved the day! Though not too happy about leaving Willian and Toby on the bench....

    Butland De Gea
    Bellerin Kolarov Dawson VVD Moreno
    Ozil Mahrez Ramsey Barkley Stanislas
    Aguero Kane Lukaku

    2FT 0.2 ITB

Pretty much set on bring in Payet with Ramsey the most likely to make way. Alternative would be Barkley but I would need to free up funds in defense in order to afford. I'm thinking it makes more sense to upgrade Moreno though. Some options I'm considering:

    A) Ramsey -> Payet. Save 1FT for next week
    B) Ramsey -> Payet, Moreno -> 5.7 defender (Cresswell, Dier, Azpi). I would consider Kolarov -> Toby next week if I brought in a non-Spurs defender.
    C) Barkley -> Payet, Kolarov -> 5.7 defender.
    D) Barkley -> Payet, Moreno -> 4.7 defender (Nyom perhaps).

    Özil | Mahrez | Silva | Ramsey | Gosling
    Kane | Vardy | Lukaku

B stands out most for me by far ....or.... I know you won't like this but :

      C: VVD > Smith, Ramsey > Alli, Vardy > Aguero -4

Point of C being Allli is such a good 5th you always have a option of selling Mahrez and using Alli as 4th mid for extra future funds for Costa type for example

Lots of deadzoners out of the Grand Playoffs this week as we say goodbye to Diva, The Cromulent One and Walsh to name but a few. Well done to Snake Juice who was the highest scorer in round 4 with 192 points across the festive period against a competition average of 163, who's gw history can be seen here:
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/36830/history/

We're now down to the last 16 of the competition with the draw as follows:

Four Four Boyz vs Snake Juice
Konig Luther vs The Buck Stops With Me
Blame it on Traore vs Jawain
    Raddy vs Mr Flibbles
    Nord1g1 vs Geriatric Unathletic
    Rodallegabomb*** vs BertZeiner
    Costa Nostra vs HVT
    Hooky vs GeordieNUFC

Raddy is the highest seed left at qualifying seed #28 as the 4 players left seeded above him all crashed out this round. Meanwhile Blame it on Traore looks the team to beat right now, having won his first four rounds in clean sweeps and is yet to lose a gameweek. This is his incredible gameweek history that has propelled him through the rounds:

I actually scored more than my opponent over the three games, but lost the first leg by 1 point and the third leg by 2 points. All I needed was Scott Dann to give me 2 measly appearance points today, but no he chose to concede three and grab a yellow card instead. 🙁 Good luck to Four Four Boyz in the rest of the tournament.

Everything. Cant even see any positive side of this system.
Why am I suppose to buy players early(even if I dont want to), just because everyone is bringing that player and his price will go up? (Alli for instance)

          • 12 Years
          10 years, 6 months ago

Its to correct flaws in the market as raising the price of obviously undervalued players (being bought in their droves) and slowing down the pace everybody buys them at. Also it rewards those who discovered the players early. Meanwhile the sales tax tries to stop abuse of the system.

I dont have any problem with player's increasing price, its timing is concern, basically like stock market.
In Espn fantasy, players price does increase but after deadline which is better imo, this doesnt force us to make some panic transfers.

ooh I quite like the idea of that system actually. Its one thing I don't like about Sky, Alli is £4.0m and will never change which seems silly.

At least you're getting a good player...I wouldn't worry about injuries as many on here do. They can usually be corrected with a mere hit anyway. Early transfers are ok.

You have a good squad of 15 and 1.6million in the bank so play yout own game and don't worry about others, sometimes too much is focus is put on value on this site. The way I look it at it sometimes is if you've a lot of value to potentially lose by transfering a player out it can hinder your decision making. i.e. holding onto out of form players too long because of fear of losing value.

I will save them for my memoirs but there are many nights I have waded through deep fast moving water (seriously quite quick) to rescue animals during the middle of the night. Plus the snow in 2009/2010 was so high at the top of the hill it went above my waist and so deep we couldn't get any tractors or ATV up there I cut a barel in 2 and put sacks of feed in it, harnessed it to my back and dragged it up to the top of the hill. That was really hard but animals would have died if I hadn't. Flooding when taht snow went was pretty awful

                  Weather is a killer.

Would you get Kane or Kun for short term (say coming 4 weeks or so) and why?

It looks like Kane is lacking shots in the box and could Alli be a decent cover so that we can look elsewhere?

Kun is not at his 100% and his fixtures is not particularly attractive (while Kane has home vs Sunderland!), but we all know he is class and he should get more service from his teammates (I reckon Silva's return to form will benefit Kun, still wait to be seen)

I think for long term it has to be Kun ahead of Kane (assuming Kun is healthy). I could transfer in Kun later if I get Kane now, vice versa.
