Our sights are set on the midweek round of fixtures now as Fantasy managers prepare for a couple of Gameweeks over the next few days. Alexis Sanchez’ return to form, City without Kevin De Bruyne, Dimitri Payet’s big-hitter status and Romelu Lukaku’s showing against Newcastle all find their way onto today’s menu.

Sanchez’ bid to oust Ozil…
Handed a first start since limping out of the Gameweek 14 draw at Norwich, Alexis Sanchez’ FA Cup winner against Burnley could barely be better timed. With Mesut Ozil picking up points in just one of the last six Gameweeks, the Chilean’s return to fitness and form offers the perfect opportunity to break up the template and inject some new life into our five-man midfields. Sanchez has already risen in price this week and another eye-catching display could persuade some of Ozil’s 51% ownership that it’s time to rely on Alexis again.

Vardy and Mahrez reigniting the flame…
A goal and assist over the last couple of matches suggests that Jamie Vardy is finally getting over the groin problem that limited his Fantasy output over the winter period. Having ended a run of five blanks with an assist against Stoke last time out, Riyad Mahrez will also be confident of building momentum against a visiting Liverpool defence that’s just shipped four at Norwich. Whilst the Merseysiders continue to battle for silverware on four fronts, Leicester may well have benefitted from their lack of FA Cup duties last weekend and the schedule from Gameweek 27 (NOR, WBA, wat, NEW, cpl, SOT, sun, WHM, SWA) could see many doubling up again if they can start to bring in the points.

City’s readjustment without De Bruyne…
Having started 17 of the 19 league matches he’s been available for since arriving at the Etihad, the Belgian’s knee injury absence will clearly be a major loss for Manuel Pellegrini. With five goals and nine assists, De Bruyne has been the stand-out Fantasy star of City’s midfield this season but his stint on the sidelines now allows the likes of David Silva and Yaya Toure to stake a claim for our consideration. With Jesus Navas likely to be afforded more minutes on the right, Silva, in particular, could be the chief beneficiary in the central role behind Sergio Aguero.

United’s attacking form…
With six goals in three league outings, the Red Devils had started to show plenty of promise prior to the 1-0 home loss to Southampton. After sweeping aside Derby in the FA Cup, can Louis van Gaal’s men kick on as Stoke make their way to Old Trafford? Wayne Rooney bagged his sixth goal in as many outings on Friday evening, whilst Anthony Martial served up a pair of assists in a Man of the Match performance. We’ll also be keeping a keen eye on Jesse Lingard as a budget option in the centre of the park after the youngster – who has started each of the last four in all competitions – bagged an assist in the 3-1 win against the Rams.

Wimmer in the frame?…
With Jan Vertonghen now sidelined for a number of weeks with a knee injury, the Austrian centre-half seems the likeliest to benefit from a run of starts in the heart of Tottenham’s four-man defence. Mauricio Pochettino trialled Kevin Wimmer alongside Erik Dier against Colchester on Saturday and handed Toby Alderweireld the day off as he looks to reorganise his backline in Vertonghen’s absence. Given that Spurs have conceded fewer goals than any side, Wimmer’s price of 4.6 – compared to Alderweireld’s 6.2 – may well turn a few heads if he earns the nod away to Norwich.

Swansea’s recovery…
It’s fair to say that Francesco Guidolin’s arrival at the Liberty has already had a positive impact. A 2-1 win at Everton in the Italian’s first official match in charge earned Swansea a second straight league victory for the first time this season. After some patchy performances towards the end of Garry Monk’s tenure, Andre Ayew bagged a goal and assist for the second time in three at Goodison – at a very kind price of 6.8, we’re monitoring the Ghana international’s progress as the Swans make their way to the Hawthorns tomorrow night.

Payet’s claims for heavy-hitter status…
It’s a sign of Fantasy managers’ faith in the West Ham playmaker that he’s risen 0.6 in price since returning from injury in Gameweek 21. Payet has eased his way back to form, though, blanking in three of his subsequent four appearances, but a home encounter with basement-dwellers Villa looks perfectly set up to reward his growing band of owners. Payet has averaged 5.6 points per game this season – only Riyad Mahrez (7.4) and Mesut Ozil (6.4) have managed more in midfield – and with Sunderland and Norwich also on his agenda over the next four, a big performance could trigger a spike in his 22% ownership.

Lukaku’s bid to stem the tide…
Having failed to score in five of his last six league appearances, our collective faith in the Everton frontman is starting to wane. Lukaku has now slipped in price in each of the last two Gameweeks, yet a home encounter against Newcastle is surely enough for most to hold, given he’s scored or assisted in six of his last seven at Goodison. With clashes against Stoke and West Brom preceding a Gameweek 27 blank, another failure will surely kick-start a major exodus.

Townsend’s impact on Toon attack…
After splashing the cash on the former Tottenham flier, Steve McClaren has confirmed that Townsend will be handed an immediate chance to impress as Newcastle travel to Goodison. Encouragingly for the Magpies boss, his side sit top for attempts inside the opposition box over the last four Gameweeks, which bodes well for their chances of beating the drop. Will Townsend be able to re-invent himself as a team player and thrive alongside the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic or will his penchant for a long-range effort see many of the Toon attacks fizzle out with the ball in Row Z?

Chelsea’s Vicarage Road litmus test…
It’s nine matches undefeated in all competitions for the Blues in light of yesterday’s 5-1 FA Cup thrashing of MK Dons. On the road, in particular, Chelsea have impressed under Guus Hiddink – indeed, they have chalked up a clean sheet in all three away league outings since the Dutchman was installed as interim manager. A trip to Watford poses plenty of problems, though, and with Odion Ighalo back in form, can the Blues backline hold steady? The likes of Oscar and Diego Costa have turned in some stand-out performances of late and with 1% and 6% ownership, they look ready-made differentials if they can deliver at Vicarage Road.

Looking at the Perchinho's excellent DGW/Blank planner, it really is baffling that the Citeh/Newc double isn't happening in GW 25, especially if the Citeh's fixture congestion escalates.

If Citeh need a replay in their FAC QF tie (have to get past Chelsea first obviously) AND are still involved in the UCL they could end up having to play 2 postponed games in a slot only big enough for one due to the condensed season because of ending early for the Euros.

I don't think any news on City - Newcastle would have come today anyway, with how busy the PL and the clubs have been on deadline day. Nothing tomorrow and it's probably a non-starter, having said that.

Does seem odd though, given the congestion only gets worse from this point.

            Factual feeling of hate?

Can't bear to stay on bench? Notice that he's passing his peak age and was in his National Team before the injury. It's pretty simple: he has lost his place in the NT, because he doesn't get to play, the EC is in half a year time, and he has to get to play to get back to the NT. And he doesn't get the chance at Arsenal, Bellerin blocking his way, he has to look for it elsewhere. Blaming the guy for that is quite ridiculous.

    Moving Target -

AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of Rhoys Wiggins from Sheffield Wednesday.
The Welsh left-back has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year contract that will see him remain on the south coast until June 2018.

Wiggins returns to Vitality Stadium after previously spending two loan spells with AFC Bournemouth before signing a permanent deal in 2010.

He remained part of Eddie Howe’s setup until 2011 when he moved to Charlton Athletic. His performances at The Valley saw him selected in the 2012 League One PFA Team of the Year.

The 28-year-old then made the switch to Sheffield Wednesday on August 2015, where he made his debut in 4-1 League Cup victory over Mansfield Town.

Oh, so this is that sort of stats twisting. You should know, and probably do, that only half of them are starts, and in those he has got injured a few times. The goals/90, or minutes/goal, are much more informative, as appearances can be anything from few seconds to ~98 minutes.

Yes, but it still is the better stat and his NPG90 for Chelsea is almost 0.2 more than for Newcastle, probably partly due to that effect.

His actual league NPG at Chelsea when you bother counting the minutes in injury time is 0.63 NPG90 or 0.66 NPG94. Then add in the fact its against tired legs and then he's not been as good as he has been at Newcastle.

you're doing something badly wrong here. To got it even as low as 0.65, you have to assume he has played 260 minutes of injury time which makes 9 minutes of injury time per match, or NPG99, and he has quite rarely finished both halves, so that's quite a lot.

Balders, do you have the actual injury time he has played somewhere? I counted him a realistic average of 3 minutes of injury time per match and got him a 0.78 NPG90, which is still outstanding, and still whole 10 points better than his Newcastle rate.

your mistake is that you count in his two QPR matches from 2014/2015, full minutes, so 180+.

Approximate 950 Chelsea minutes and you still get 0.76 NPG90.

To be fair the point I was making is that is Newcastle season is an outlier. Which is what I said originally. Just suggesting the stats that back up my opinion of him being very average.

See above. nothing allows to conclude that Newcastle stint was somehow an outlier. Rather it was pretty exactly his expected level as a starter. Even his conversion rate wasn't unsustainable.

Not sure what you're even talking about anymore. His PL record for Chelsea is what I stated above. Almost 1 goal every 90 minutes, which, if you didn't understand it yet, is pretty fecking good and by some margin the best in the team.

Exactly. Top notch, and has been at its best in PL. Maybe because these have been his peak years. Too bad he passed so much time injured during them.

Also a fine conversion rate. Nothing bad about having him as a back up, so it really raises the question how wise it was to gamble on Pato, who is very uncertain quantity. Maybe they don't really think about this season anymore.

If Rémy left then Pato is the main backup. Not sure about appropriate cover, as they'd be low in options as well as quality. But they're low on quality up front anyway.

I guess eventually I won't have double MF. I really like to hold onto Ramsey as he is a mega differential compared to Ozil but not sure whether it's the right thing to do. Sanchez is top of my watchlist right now so one of them goes out.

I've seen Stevenage play. Their manager was a better striker than their strikers.

People putting City down saying they aren't a big club are wrong. Even before Abu Dhabi investment they where a great club.

Anyone else targeting Simpson and Wollscheid now that it is confirmed that LEI and STO both won't have any blank GWs till the end of the season?

Already own Wollscheid. Will pick up Simpson or Schmeichel for GW27.

I'm wondering if wildcarding gw36 and using bench boost gw37, for a likely small dgw, could be a better idea than using bench boost for the larger gw34 dgw?

No blanks to prepare for after so can have as many dgw player as number of fixtures allow, without having to offload any of them before blank weeks.

Seems a bit of a waste to wildcard that late

I know what you mean, but don't even think wildcarding would be much use for me apart from to make use of the double gameweeks. Unless injuries play their part.

Although I guess doing it earlier you could set up for a longer run of fixtures... hmmm

      It's the ideal really.

With your dgw options geared towards a strong 36 & 38 for example.

A saved transfer them week you play the boost gives you an option to change two players the week after also.

It'll be tricky. Likely several blanks in GW30. Then likely several DGW teams in GW34. Then likely a few of those same teams blanking in GW35 for the Fa Cup semis

Too late mate. You need to instigate and relate. Let your TV inflate at a rate where mothers can wait to follow your trait. It's fair, just hang out the bait and hate the rate they weight on your mind.

    Plan seams sorted-ish. Whadya think?

    Butland McCarthy
    Bellerin Toby Moreno Evans Targett
    Firmino Ozil Payet Alli Westwood
    Lukaku Kane Aguero

    GW27 Firmino + Lukaku -> Vahrez
Prior to GW 27 convert Westwood into Arny as my 5th mid and Moreno to Simpson.

    Sound ok?
