It’s time for our Sky Sports Focus article this Thursday evening, as we look back at the previous action before preparing you for the upcoming double Gameweek. As always, we bring you the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and Watchlist before assessing the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 28 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Sunderland vs Man UnitedLamine Kone
Bournemouth vs StokeGiannelli Imbula
Crystal Palace vs WatfordTroy Deeney
Everton vs West BromClaudio Yacob
Norwich vs West HamDimitri Payet
Swansea vs SouthamptonVirgil van Dijk
Chelsea vs NewcastlePedro
Arsenal vs LeicesterN’Golo Kante
Aston Villa vs LiverpoolPhilippe Coutinho
Man City vs TottenhamMousa Dembele

Two defenders, seven midfielders and one forward grabbed the awards. It was a real week for differentials with only Dimitri Payet (13.5%) and Virgil van Dijk (7.1%) likely having a significant impact on rankings. Both those two made it four MoTM awards for the season, as did Troy Deeney and Philippe Coutinho.

Gameweek 28 Bonus Points

Only two goalkeepers picked up bonus last time out, with Ben Foster and Vito Mannone the men in question. Foster was the week’s highest scorer after a clean sheet, added to his bonus haul, meant he racked up a tidy eight points. Petr Cech is the game’s leading keeper with 16 bonus points.

In defence, 12 players grabbed bonus, five for tackles and seven for passes completed – Simon Francis was the closest to earning both, missing out on two extra bonus by just one completed challenge. The Bournemouth man also leads the way for defenders alongside Erik Pieters at the bonus summit with 20 points apiece.

In midfield, there were 17 beneficiaries in total: eight for tackling and 11 for passes. All-action duo Emre Can and Mousa Dembele were the two to pick up both. Cesc Fabregas is the bonus darling with 46 points overall – 12 more than the second placed Lucas Leiva.

Heung-Min Son was the only forward to pick up bonus after completing five challenges, which underlines Spurs’ high pressing game.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

LukakuEverton8.85.6%
ArnautovicStoke5.54.4%
De BruyneMan City7.84.2%
IghaloWatford6.53.7%

Bacary Sagna’s injury absence has sparked a major exodus at the back as Sky managers look to freshen up their defences. Kevin de Bruyne remains on the sidelines, though Marko Arnautovic is expected to return for Stoke ahead of back-to-back home clashes with Villa and Newcastle. Up top, the out-of-sorts Romelu Lukaku and Odion Ighalo were the main casualties for those looking for a forward for the Sunday matches.

Vardy, Alli and Alderweireld played on the Sunday last time out so were obvious candidates to draft in. Payet and Van Dijk’s form is hard to argue against, too, and with both so reasonably priced in the Sky game, have offered excellent value for money in recent outings.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

ITB: 0.2m
Transfers remaining: 11/40
Last week’s points: 55
Overall points: 1521
Rank: 1,801

Notes
I climbed up to 1,801st despite a fairly mediocre week, as the teams struggling without transfers above me start to fall down the league. Cesc Fabregas (14 points) and Dimitri Payet (15) were the main performers last time out.

Alexis Sanchez is my biggest worry at the moment, as that gamble seems to have failed miserably. By opting for the Chilean I’m currently Jamie Vardy-less, which is a real concern ahead of a great run for Leicester, with Vardy the likely skipper for most active players this week. With 11 transfers left I could make the swap but being the stubborn so-and-so that I am, I’ll just hope the Fantasy gods have decided to smile kindly on me and Sanchez comes up trumps.

Captain Plan
With a double Gameweek on the agenda, there is, of course, a multitude of options available. I’m likely to go with the transfer-less approach and give the armband to Riyad Mahrez for his home clashes against Norwich and West Brom before switching skipper to Sergio Aguero for his trip to Liverpool on March 2. This works out pretty well as Man City are at home to lacklustre Aston Villa on Saturday in Gameweek 31.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and are sitting in first place in the rankings at present. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch new host Max Rushden and Paul Merson at 18:30 SkySports 1 HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football, chatting to former Liverpool and Aston Villa star Ray Houghton and asking him for his #One2Eleven.

    Payet Ozil Mahrez Alli Arnie
    Austin Kane Aguero

Planning on taking one of these lot out for Siggy in 2 weeks. Payet or Arnie?

Payet out will ease up life for GW30 but value...etc. also shows its a bad idea.
Arnie out means 4-3-3 for GW30 but think it's what I should do. Thoughts?

Evening everyone. Title race looks like going down to the wire ( the bookies seem to think so ). But what about relegation ?
Obviously The Villa look doomed. Which other teams will also drop ?
I don't think Norwich are good enough , Newcastle will escape easily , they are playing much better than earlier in the season and have strengthened in the window. Big Sam has the right credencials to just keep Sunderland up despite their fixtures which leads me a bit bizarrely to Swansea.
    My 3:-
    Villa
    Norwich
    Swansea
    Thoughts ?

Re LVG what I really can't get my head round is how a club can continue to employ someone with a ludicrous contract who proceeds to spend money like it's gone out of fashion buying to be kind generally average players , gets knocked out of the CL , underperforms in the Prem playing more turgid football than Pulis and will at very best only qualify for the Europa League next season. In any other business he would have been on his toes ages ago . Doesn't make sense.

Mourinho does the same thing everywhere he goes. First season theres progress, second season he wins trophies, third season hes gone. Atleast if they got him they could actually win something again.

All I am saying is look at the players he himself signed. Even the most loyal United fan must admit he vastly overpaid for what he bought . Yes there have been injuries but something has been far wrong. Put it like this . If it was your club and you were responsible for the finances would you be happy to retain someone who has spent so heavily for no CL next season ?
I think LVG has at least as much arrogance as Maureen and I wouldn't employ him either. Maybe a punt at someone like Simeone ?

However much money LvG is on and how much money United spend on transfers really doesnt concern anyone. United make so much money that they can spend bascially whatever they want. And United arent so much underperforming now as they were overperforming due to the brilliance that was/is Sir Alex Ferguson. Yes, they play boring football. But their squad really is inferior to the clubs above them.

United have made a bunch of poor signings over the past couple years. Theyve also signed maybe the most exciting youngster in Europe, albeit overpriced. United still are in the run for CL. And like i said, it doesnt matter how much theyve spent. If you make that much money, you can spend. And i dont think anyone in their right mind could call Diego Simeone a "punt". The man is one of the best club managers there is and has been for the past few years.

Disagree with in the running for CL mate. Without success revenues will ultimately fall (ie Liverpool) and how tough has it been for them to get back into CL and attract quality players ?

6 points with 12 games to play. Its not gonna be easy, but theyre in no way out of it yet. It has been tough, and its not going to get any easier. The teams around are improving and/or have equal amounts of money. The problem is United lost their whole identity as a club when Fergie retired, and theyre hoping to fill the gap with a mid table club manager and then an almost retired has been. The people in charge at Old Trafford know more than i do, but my take would be to find a charismatic, strong manager and take it from there. No quick fix solutions such as Josè.

Louis Van Pulis has done a ludicrously bad job, but not sure if getting rid before the end of the season would be the right thing

Yes... Was going to do Giroud to Vardy

Still might do it and just keep Sanchez

I still can't decide what to do with Ramsey. He's out of form and not getting any shots on target, I'd also feel compelled to keep him for Swansea

I hope it is a good tear up. I just like the way Quigg has handled himself. Particularly when Frampton called him stupid outside the ring and Quigg came out and said he was correct and he wasn't good at school etc. Just warmed to Quigg for some reason. Both great boxers. Power v technique. Could go either way.

Another question I'd like to ask is whether at this stage of the season, what kind of a lead is considered insurmountable in a ML? I'm 103 points behind my rival to be precise, and I'm beginning to get really itchy 🙁

There is one. Who is around 50 points ahead of me having played his bench boost and triple captain already.

Even the guy with the lead of a 100 odd is a casual with no idea about the impending blanks/doubles coming up. Problem is, he is a pretty smart player so he's got all his chips intact

in 2013/14 I saw an 80 point lead go in the last two gameweeks, Yaya + Dzeko (C) took over 50 points on Silva + Aguero (C). It's not over til the fat lady sings.

Well im chasing a lead and i want to get as much Leicester coverage as i can for their next fixtures. I can also get Aguero back by selling Costa or Kane in a little bit. I just think/hope Vardy will score more points over the next 3 gameweeks, and i gotta gamble, so..
