Shinji Okazaki fires Leicester’s only goal as the league leaders extend their lead at the summit to five points. The Foxes register a sixth clean sheet in seven at the King Power as Rafa Benitez tastes defeat in his first match in charge of the Magpies.

Okazaki Wins it for Foxes

Leicester City restored their five-point lead at the summit of the Premier League by way of a 1-0 home win over Newcastle United.

Shinji Okazaki opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a pinpoint overhead kick, breaking his run of seven outings without a goal.

The Japanese marksman was teed up by Jamie Vardy, who notched his second assist in four starts. In spite of his creative contribution, the league’s joint-top scorer lays claim to a solitary goal in his previous six starts, denoting a downturn in form. Although the Foxes’ schedule (cry, SOU, sun) continues to throw up a host of promising fixtures, Romelu Lukaku’s purple patch (three goals and one assist in four) and imminent double Gameweeks could tempt a portion of Vardy’s 55% ownership to contemplate the switch.

Riyad Mahrez came up short for the 7% of  voters that handed him the captain’s armband. Nonetheless, the Algerian midfielder ranked joint-third among his counterparts for attempts (three) this Gameweek and netted in two of his last three away starts, which bodes well for a road clash against a Crystal Palace outfit that’s shipped the joint-most goals (23) since Gameweek 20.

Having silenced Newcastle, Leicester now boast six clean sheets in their last seven home outings. Considering that Christian Fuchs possesses a better points per game (ppg) average (4.5) than the likes of Danny Simpson (3.9) and Robert Huth (3.8), the Austrian full-back represents the prime route into the East Midlanders’ defence.

Benitez’ charges fall to defeat

Rafa Benitez was unable to inaugurate his reign in the North East with a positive result, yet Newcastle displayed shoots of improvement at the King Power Stadium.

Ultimately, the Magpies failed to score for the fifth time in seven away match-ups, illustrating their paucity of offensive spark beyond St James’ Park – indeed, the Tynesiders have tallied four fewer goals (seven) than any team on the road.

As for their defensive output, Newcastle will draw encouragement from the fact that they limited the hosts to just 10 attempts and one shot on target, given that they surrendered nine goals in their previous trio of matches. That being said, it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which we’re attracted to a rearguard that’s conceded the joint-second-most goals (54) this term.

The Toon now embark on an agreeable pair of fixtures (SUN, nor) that will go some way to determining their chances of survival. If they can discover some semblance of attacking verve, Georginio Wijnaldum – who places joint-third for goals (nine) among midfielders – could emerge as a left-field differential. In saying that, the Dutchman managed just one attempt on goal last night, with Aleksandar Mitrovic (four shots, all in the box) and Moussa Sissoko (three close-range efforts) boasting the main threat for the visitors.

Firmino seems sound given numerous elements like pool's lack of consistency, Everton's poor defence, saints home defence, arsenal's propensity to bounce back after poor runs etc but admittedly very fine margin.

for full disclosure I'm playing Firmino cos other choice is silva and atm I fancy Firmino's chances more

    Morning all

Don't know what to do with my FT, I will activate my WC on GW 33 so i feel like I need to use this FT

    1.7 ITB
    1FT

    Myhill, Butland
    Bellerin, Toby, Kompany, Bennett, Fuchs
    Siggy, Alli, Ozil, Arnie, Mahrez
    Vady, Kun, Kane

If nothing is really important I might get a new goalie instead of Myhill

    REPOST

Which transfer you can suggest me please ?
Is my bench order right ?

    Hart
    Rangel, Kompany, Wimmer
    Mahrez, Ozil, Firmino, Siggurdson
    Aguero, Kane (C), Vardy

    Sub: Hennessey, Ali, Simpson, Smith
    2FT, 4.5 in the bank
I could have about 10 dgw players for dgw 34 without hits, so i will save my wc to gw36

Now i need dgw players, what do you reckon is the best move

    1. Wimmer to Rose/Dier
    2. Smith to Olsson/Dawson
    3. Smith to PVA
    4. Smith to Azpilicueta
    5. Smith to Manchester united defender
    6. Vardy to Lukaku
    7. Vardy to Rondon
    8. Rangel to Dawson and Smith to PVA

For experienced players with lots of seasons behind them, is overcoming a 80points deficit to the top of a ML realistic at this stage? Still have wild card, triple captain and bench boost and first place has none

    Does Arnie need Shaqiri?

Last time Shaq was injured, it coincided with Arnie suddenly dropping form. And shortly after Shaq came back, Arnie broke his drought with a brace. The brace was against Villa though, and Arnie did get his goal this week after Shaq had gone off. But I do wonder if generally Arnie needs Shaq to make things happen for him.

Any thoughts? I haven't seen more than highlights of Stoke's games so I'd appreciate any deeper insight into their relationship.

Generally, yes. Shaqiri is their Willian - creates a lot of their chances. (based entirely on games seen, not stats)

Actually , Stoke came back in the game in the second half AFTER Shaq was substituted

Earlier on in the season , yes Shaq was crucial to Arnie but with Imbula and Affelay back in form along with Diouf , Arnie should maintain his output imo

    Probably old news but

"Diego Costa has been charged in relation to Chelsea’s FA Cup sixth round fixture against Everton on Saturday 12 March 2016,"

"It is alleged his behaviour, after being shown a second yellow card in the game, amounted to improper conduct.

"He has until 6pm (GMT) on Thursday 17 March 2016 to respond to the charge."

How many games will Costa be suspended do you think?

eek that is a fragile basket you are putting those eggs in.
if I remember saints defensive stats weren't even great on their CS run and this is a team who took them apart in the cup

    Benching headache. Current lineup is:

    Llores
    Olsson - Williams-Fuchs
    Silva-Mahrez-Siggy-Payet-Alli
    Kun-Kane
    Bench: Hennesey-Vady-Sagna-Ivanovic

Have I benched the right players?

      Vardy over Silva for me.

    Any ideas folks? 2 FT's, 2.6 ITB 🙂

    Butland - McCarthy
    Alder - VVD - Fuchs - Bellerin - Francis
    Alli - Silva - Payet - Mahrez - Arnie
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

Was thinking of one of the following:

    A. Butland > Hart
    B. Bellerin > Williams (Bench VVD)
    C. Arnie > Siggy (Bench Silva)

      Williams - cleanie + baps
Fuchs - cleanie + baps (+ assist maybe)
Dawson - cleanie + goal threat

If Newcastle vs City is rescheduled for gw34, then 15 dgw'ers is on I think. Otherwise with make do with 12/13

Was planning on using my AOA this week to play both Arnie and Alli but not sure it's the best idea to bench Simpson with the amount of clean sheets Leicester are getting.. Any suggestions?

    Fabianski (Hennessey)
Williams - Kompany (Simpson) (VVD) (Cresswell)
    Ozil - Sanchez - Mahrez - Alli - Arnie
    Vardy - Aguero - Kane

    1FT, 0.5 in the bank
