We pop out to the Weekly Shop for our final Wednesday article, as we analyse the player lists of our partner games to highlight the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As per usual, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Given that Crystal Palace have lost their last five consecutive home matches, conceding 12 goals in the process, they face a tough task to halt Leicester City’s charge for the title as the league leaders visit Selhurst Park this weekend. Against Newcastle, Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $4,000) kept a third clean sheet in four league outings, while investment in the usual outfield assets also looks set to continue returning points.

Craig Dawson (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $4,200) is expected to be fit for West Brom’s encounter with Norwich City as he looks to add to his three-goal haul this season. If the right-back misses out, though, Jonas Olsson (FantasyBet 4m, Draftkings $2,200) or Gareth McCauley (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $2,100) could be worth considering. Alex Neil’s side are struggling for goals, having failed to net in five of their last seven matches, so clean sheet points look on the cards for the Baggies’ rearguard.

Swansea may have fallen to defeat to in-form Bournemouth but Francesco Guidolin has overseen a revival in the Welsh side’s fortunes of late, picking up back-to-back wins prior to the encounter at Dean Court. A home tie with basement-dwellers Aston Villa is a promising opportunity for the Swans to distance themselves from a relegation scrap and they offer us strong options at either end of the pitch. Ashley Williams (FantasyBet 4.5m) has been the stand-out defender, picking up 20 points from seven clean sheets, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson (FantasyBet 7m) has been the main goal threat, scoring seven times in 11 appearances since the turn of the year.

Harry Kane’s (FantasyBet 9.5m) season appears to be on an upward trajectory as Spurs head into the run-in with a chance of silverware. The forward’s double against Aston Villa leaves him one strike short of the 20-goal mark ahead of a home clash with a Bournemouth outfit that’s kept only three clean sheets on their travels. Encouragingly, Kane has produced double the number of shots on target than Sergio Aguero (12 to six) over their respective last four matches.

Poundstretchers

Watford’s win over Arsenal in the FA cup could kick-start their league form after a recent run of inconsistent displays. Considering that eight of the Hornets’ ten shut-outs this campaign have arrived at Vicarage Road, Heurelho Gomes (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $3,800) and his backline clearly prefer home comforts, and the visit of a Stoke side that have blanked in half of their last eight away ties bodes well for the Brazilian shot-stopper.

Kevin Wimmer (FantasyBet 4.5m) makes another appearance in the bargain picks – the defender helped Spurs to a first clean sheet in five at Villa Park and remains a budget route into the meanest defence in the division. Eric Lamela (FantasyBet 6.5m) may not have the allure of more obvious picks such as Dele Alli (FantasyBet 5m) and Christian Eriksen (FantasyBet 8.5m) but the Argentine is quietly having a productive season with three goals and five assists tallied so far. Over the last six, he’s recorded far more shots in the box (12) than Eriksen (five) and Alli three), despite registering less pitch time ahead of the home clash against Bournemouth.

Rafa Benitez’s appointment should make the Tyne-Wear Derby an even more compelling clash, with both clubs’ top-flight status hanging in the balance. Jermain Defoe (FantasyBet 5m) picked up an eleventh goal of the term to secure a valuable point for the Black Cats at Southampton – the veteran forward has scored five of Sunderland’s last seven away goals and appears the most likely to dent Newcastle’s hopes. Wahbi Khazri (FantasyBet 6m) also continues to impress – a total of 39 crosses, 14 chances created and 11 attempts on goal over six appearances suggests further points are incoming if he can shrug off a knock.

We now turn to a pair of assets from a West Brom attack that has been surprisingly prolific of late. Midfielder Craig Gardner (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $4,200) has scored twice and served up an assist over the last three, while forward Salomon Rondon (FantasyBet 6.5m, Draftkings $4,200) has recorded four goals and an assist in five starts for the Baggies. Both could prove good value with opponents Norwich yet to keep a shut-out in 15 away ties.

Diego Costa’s two-match suspension brings Bertrand Traore (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $3,300) into our thinking once again. The youngster was on the bench for the weekend defeat to Everton but having scored four goals and picked up an assist over five outings in the league and FA Cup for the Blues, he could be poised to lead the line as West Ham visit Stamford Bridge.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the midweek fixtures. Tomorrow I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Anyone thinking Vardy to Ighalo if fit this week or Lukaku the favourite?

Lukaku is favourite cause makes it easier to have full team GW35 and 2 DGw's to follow.

Its possible playing Palace in GW 35 still. If not, not too serious as he will have an extra DGW. People without WC's it will be important.

I know I advocated a GW36 WC yesterday. I might still go for this, as I can get 9 DGW players for GW34 without a hit anyway and I like the look of my team for GW35 onwards much more this way.

However in my opinion there is one massive argument for the BB for GW34 which is that I see a good chance for two CS for Arsenal and United in that GW, which is great considering that the BB is practically three extra defenders (incl. GK) and one extra midfielder compared to the regular 3-4-3 formation.

I'd probably double up on defenders from both of those teams if I WC33 at least.

3 Arsenal is a great option. But it means compromising on one of Alexis/Ozil. I'm not ready to do that.

        • 12 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

I can't really fit on both Alexis and Ozil in my WC33 team without destroying the rest of my team anyway, so that wouldn't really be a problem for me.

In the WC33 draft I made, I had Milner and Yaya as my 4th and 5th mid in order to get three Pool without doubling up on them in defence. That means shaving off 2-4 mill elsewhere in my team, and possibly replacing an Arsenal defender with a Pool defender. Just don't see it working out with both of them in there.

Me too, really. I just had to make a draft to see what the alternative would look like.

Without a WC33 I see no way of getting in Sanchez for GW34.

The WC team? Would look something like (mind you, a lot of these players will depend on who look nailed on to start and are injury free):

                    Migs - Robles

                    Sagna - Rojo - Darmian (basially 2x affordable United) - Gabriel/Mert - Bellerin

                    Firmino - Payet - Milner - Ozil - Yaya

                    Lukaku - Aguero - Martial

Would mean saving a transfer for GW34 and getting rid of two United players for GW35.

No WC here, have 5 DGWers now (6 but damn you Kompany)

Prob going to try get about 10 DGWers by GW34 and still have a strong 11 for GW35 (ie don't ditch all LEI and TOT assets)

      1. timPgoodwin
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

Yeah I see the logic, I have 6 current TOT and LEI players so may need to ditch 1 at least to make room for DGWers. I am working out the best way of getting in the most DGWers with the least hits and spreading the hits over the next few GW's so the hit doesn't affect me in my HH mini-league. Thinking of bringing in Sturrridge this week and start building up my LIV contingency.

Current defence (after probable Kompany > Dawson)

    Dawson, Fuchs, Simpson

    Bench: Cresswell, Smith

Use extra FT to go Smith > Williams and bench Simpson or save and go with double Leicester DEF?

    Another dgw34 related post.

Not much attacking options from Arsenal and ManU. Özil and Martial perhaps. Looks like I'm getting atleast two defs from both teams.

He is the most explosive option in midfield out of all options considering fixtures.

It would be a mistake to go without.

KdB has CL between the two.

Alexis has nothing else to play for and will play both games. He's nailed on for 180 minutes imo. 2 juicy home fixtures.

I don't know how to deal with coming DGW.

    My current squad

    Butland (McCarthy)
    Bellerin Simpson Alderweireld (Daniels, Targett)
    Mahrez Silva Alli Payet (Lingard)
    Vardy Aguero Kane

I will use this line up in GW 31 and gonna save my FT for next GW. I still got WC, TC and All Out Attack Chip.

Please kindly advise me. Thank you Managers!

It boils down to how many players you have now in your current squad that will play in the dgw of 34.

Most of us have five or less so have no option but to WC in 33. This is the best route anyways as those playing their wc in 36 will be subject to rot.

      1. Jafalad
        • 15 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

It looks like you have only 4 in your current squad so look to get 11 players in with a dgw in 33 whilst holding your essentials like Mahrez, Kane, Toby, et al.

Save a transfer in 34 and you'll have two frees going into 35 with the blanks to make a team of 11 players.

Keep an eye then on the dgw of 37.

Go through the hulks and you'll get a better idea because many have already suggested ideas on navigating the dgws. Buk's post is particularly good.

Need ManU & Arsenal players for GW34 as they have the best fixtures. Vardy to Martial, Butland to DDG and Silva to Ozil/ Sanchez for example.

Can only see Clyney and Skrtel when he's back.
For the others, Jurgen might tinker a bit, since Lovren also can operate as LB.
Last time out, Clyney was moved to the left to get the most of flanno.

Pretty set on front line WC33, BB34. Just having slight bother with the array of Midfielders on offer. Currently on:

    ozil sanchez firmino milner Antonio

with yaya silva payet barkley lennon and (keep mahrez/alli)

What's the general consensus as of now around here?

I can myself with three ARS (Bell, Ozil and possibly Rambo), 2 Utd defenders and three Liverpud (Firmino, Moreno and Milner). Possibly Igloo and Lukaku will be essential too.

Ighalo is a very outside option for me tbh. Kun and luk nailed, Martial and rondon up next depending on form & rooney's injury. Are u considering either? I'm glad I'm not the only one in milner camp though!

    Butland (Hennessey)
    Bellerin Dier Simpson (Daniels Kompany)
    Ozil Siggy Mahrez Alli (Arnie)
    Aguero Kane Vardy

2 FT, 3.9 ITB, still dreaming that I can WC 36

    A) Arnie->Firmino
    B) Vardy->Lulu
    C) Replace Kompany (give up on WC 36)

Only 4 players with dgw in 34.

Vardy can't be an option surely to bench, 8 left has not scored but assisted looking for max points to win premiership with a game to spare, and pairs up perfectly with Mahrez. you bench Vardy you may as well bench Mahrez too.

Forgive me for this stupid thought lads, but humour me please.

My team is set up in such a way that I really cannot go into DGW34 without a WC33 and I can't enough DGW player even with 2-3 hits. But I don't particularly like any fixture combinations in DGW37 for a TC pick.

Would it be absolute folly to WC33 - get a 11 that plays twice, use the TC on Ozil/Alexis in DGW34 and make up 15 starting for DGW 37 with a BB that GW?
Of course a few injured could scupper the plan a little but then again I have 3 transfers between 33 and 37.

Has anyone else thought of this - purely because they don't like the TC options in GW 37?

Sound thinking - I'm considering this as well. But there's plenty time to ruminate before DGW34 anyway

True sir. The only draw back is that you're going to have to use your transfers to definitely bring in some Chelsea and Sunderland players and it means you won't be able to punt or transfer in anyone else those few GWs.

The general consensus is that 37 has the better TC options. Payet and Firmino with two home fixtures stand out.

Would you rather TC Alexis/Ozil for thei plum 34 home games or Firmino/Payet with probably one hard home game each that DGW37?

It's very tricky - I'm not too sure.

Tough call - surely Alexis and Aguero form needs to be monitored. Then throw Lukaku into this mix as well

Aye aye. Definitely needs more thought.

I shall pick your brains on another day Pompel. Cheers for the help!!

Yes, it's the other option I'm weighing up at this very moment, except that I would WC for 32 to enable a.scenario where I hang on to Kane and Mahrez until the last moment to avoid exposure there.

I figure this way I could get 11 dgw in 34 along with a TC, 11 in 35 and at least 11 for 37, more for a hit or 2. A major consideration for this is that it's only likely the fringe dgw players you would be missing, which isn't so bad.

Sorry forgot to add that a slightly earlier WC allows for that extra transfer to be included.

Juve lead may have great regrets from last night. First, the wrongly disallowed goal. Had they lead by 3 after the first half, the game would have been over. But more importantly: why oh why did they not put a parent club clause to Coman's loan contract. No Coman would have meant no goals for Bayern.

Maybe the fact that Bayern paid €7M just for the loan had something to do with them not wanting to hear a word about any clause preventing them from playing him in any given match. Still, shows how much more confidence Guardiola had in the kid than anybody at Juve.

All is Evra's fault.. what was the use of dribbling in front the the box at the 90th min.
And I would also blame Allegri for getting Mandzukic on for Moratta.. The latter was the best player and holding the ball quite superbly.

Jamaal Lascelles. Played last 3 games. Will he be nailed under Rafa? Could be nice enabler for the dgw for just 4.2m.

Tough to say, but looks like he will, with all the injuries there
