We’ve been left hanging for weeks but finally, on 3pm on Tuesday, we were handed the Double Gameweek details and could begin our planning in earnest.

This week’s ScoutCast is dominated by double Gameweek chatter, as your community queries hone in on the variables, strategies and planning involved in exploiting the fixture pile-up to the full.

I’m joined by Jonty, Andy and Luke as we attempt to make sense of it all, turning to a virtual flipchart to digest and communicate some of the options on offer.

It’s hardcore stuff that takes into extra time in an exhaustive 80-minute episode.

This was first aired live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday evening, Be sure to subscribe in order to get wind of future broadcasts.

You can view that live version via the larger player below, or indulge on the directors cut audio stream via this link or the smaller player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So the last time Watford conceded more than 1 goal was the 13th of Jan. I think I will bench Arnie and play Ozil

You don't bench people who are ON this table

This table is ONLY for ELITE attackers. Arnie may/may not be Elite but he is in Elite Form

Again only 180 minutes. Its tougher to maintain over 360 minutes like Arnie

Swap Ozil for Payet and I have the same and I am on Ozil at the moment due to Arsenal form. They are hardly in devastating mood are they?

I got triple Spurs attack for their run of avl BOU so I ain't benching Alli or Eriksen,

Would love some thoughts on what to do here 🙂 really have no clue what to use a FT on...

    Butland
    Dawson - Toby - Fuchs
    Siggy - Sanchez - Mahrez - Alli
    Kane - Kun - Vardy

    Mccarthy; Arnie, Bellerin, Francis
    0 ITB + 2FT

hmmm your team looks nicely set for this week, and 0 itb doesn't help with using 1FT. Probably Fabiansky or a Swans defender, but then next week I would prefer Butland.

Who do you think will do more damage in DGW34 Lukaku or Payet ? I can only have one of them if decide to save the WC for GW36 ?

Also do you think it is worth playing the WC early (and BB obviously) if I can get 10 DGWers for free (including Hennessey who has crap fixtures) ?

Arsenal usually peak form in the last two months of the season and have 2 tasty fixtures, so it will likely to be Sanchez, unless, he seem to be out of form completely by then.

If TCing in GW37, it will be between Firmino (most likely) or Payet or Lukaku, whoever is in a better form.

Must have been discussed to the core.

Just for my sake would be great if someone could let me know if there are any standout winners for TC.
    Cannot decide when to WC.

    TC swings it for me.

Interesting scoutcast... i'm actually leaning more towards a GW36 wildcard now. It would mean having Leicester players v Sun, Soton players v New and Daniels vs Villa for GW33. Then in GW35 you could have Soton players vs Villa, Mardy vs Swansea and Spurs players vs WBA.

Gw36 wildcard also means the doublers you bring in from Everton, Liverpool, Watford and West Ham have a lovely 36 fixture whereas DGW assets have less appealing fixtures in 33.

Could get 11 doublers with a -4 for GW34, plus Ozil / Arsenal or Payet look good shouts for triple captain

Another big factor in my thinking which wasn't brought up in scoutcast are the semi finals, which will surely play a big role in GW34 rotation especially for Palace, Watford and possibly Everton. Maybe even United / West Ham too if the CL looks beyond reach by then.

Hmm much more to mull over, it will likely all hinge on when Palace v Everton is scheduled for

just remember sunderland and newcastle are now fighting for their lives. Teams like swansea and southampton will generally become rubbish about now

Then you'll be bench boosting in the gw37 beach football fest.

This was also my plan for ages, but I decided I was wrong after a lot of thought (and a few injuries :D)

Swansea I don't mind, Gylfi is gone from my team in a week or two anyway. Soton haven't had much to play for for a while now but they've been chipping away with decent performances.

IMO the bench boost looks slightly more precarious for GW34 than 37, there'll surely be several players rested when they're gearing up for a Wembley semi final 3 or 4 days later.

Taylor - You can only have so many Newcastle defenders before you get a certain amount of self loathing
Varela - Really nailed on for both games?
Robles fair enough - He is in my draft side

A lot of people getting Martial are in an identical position. You're right there. The downside of playing a 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 in 35 is probably covered easily by all the extra players in 34 though. The real worry would have been if you couldn't field 11 in 35.

I feel with a couple of hits I can put out a nice 11 in 34 and TC. Have a nice team all the way leading up to it right up to 36 when I WC then I presume I can put out a decent side for the second DGW whee I BB and frankly with 1 GW to go how bad can 38 be?

But I do feel a little like the chips would be better used the other way around. I just don't like my side. Maybe I am being too rigid with my selections

In a similar position. I can get this lot for no hits in GW34:

          ELLIOT
BELLERIN, JEVANS, MUN DEF (EXCEPT SMALLING)
          OZIL, SANCHEZ, FIRMINO, ANTONIO
          AGUERO, MARTIAL, Kane

          Hennessey, Alli, Simpson, Wolly

          GW35: Martial -> Vardy
          GW36: WC

Payet and Lukaku are the obvious omissions, but with both blanking in GW35 perhaps they can wait until a GW36 WC? Means my 11 in GW35 is also pretty strong.

33 for me. When you work it out it is quite easy to get 15,11,11 for 33,35,37. And I don't think having 3 liverpool and lukaku etc is a bad thing, plus leicester aren't freescoring anymore, arsenal/ manu only have the league to play for etc.

But the point of a BB is to have 15 players. Surely having more than 11DGWers is desirable.

Of course it depends who your additional players are. Just because they have 2 games it doesn't mean they won't be outscored by some SGW players. Spurs for example could have a very good week.

of course in GW34 you can expect a red arrow compared to FFS players (but possibly still a green compared the world average) - but week by week scores don't really matter anyway

All completely valid but you have to cut costs somewhere and he is a cheap alternative. You won't find a better cheap alternative I suspect.

You could change one of the other mids to Barkley say but then you have an additional blank to worry about.

You could do one of the Arsenal boys to Wijnaldum which would keep the blanks in check but the potential goes through the floor

Started the season with 9 straight green arrows from 2mil to 60k

Got absolutely hammered thereafter with 12 reds out of 15 GWs to drop to 900k.

Getting back some momentum with 4 greens in 5 weeks to around 400k...

My season's pretty much done but anyone know what the gap is between the 400k mark and the top top 50k? Bit disappointed considering finished 1,044th last season but just looking to finish the season well now.

Sounds like your season (and last season) are pretty similar to mine. Yours is a bit more extreme this season but I was 20k in GW8 and now 80k. Definitely doesn't feel nice dropping significantly over a period of 22 weeks

It was a RIDICULOUS drop. I was stunned into paralysis. Held on to Sanchez for way too long, ignored Barkley, held off Lukaku too long as well. Going Bellerin over Toby when Toby went on that run was an absolute kick in the teeth as well.

These 4 moves cost me my season. They scored ridiculously over an 8 week period. Played catch up ever since.

Yea definitely had good luck last season - no doubt. A lot of factors went my way - slow to no price changes suited my play style of late transfers, there was nice balance between form and fixtures, premium players were performing so it was a matter of being astute with the budget picks and team structure.

This season, crazy price swings, multiple big-hitting budget options in every position, form form form, zero output from the premium players...

I've learned many lessons this season...but hoping next season isn't in any similar to this.

    Martial on penalties is interesting....

Would you save your WC until GW36 if you could get this team out for no hits in GW34?

    ELLIOT
    BELLERIN, JEVANS, 5.4M (ROJO/SKRTEL)
    OZIL, SANCHEZ, FIRMINO, ANTONIO
    AGUERO, MARTIAL, Kane

    Hennessey, Alli, Simpson, Wolly

    GW35: Martial -> Vardy
    GW36: WC

Payet and Lukaku are the obvious omissions, but Antonio sort of covers Payet and with both blanking in GW35 perhaps they can wait until a GW36 WC? Means my 11 in GW35 is also pretty strong.

So I did some out of the box thinking last night. Brainstormed this gem and would like to hear some thoughts.

Starting the season in GW2 instead of having a team for GW1. Bonkers but hey, it's the DZ.

That doesn't mean ditch the preseason research and planning. It still means you do the regular pre-work to narrow down options, but starting in GW2 basically means a free wildcard and ability to make a more informed decision + jump on price rises/bargains.

The risk is obviously being immediately behind missing out on GW1 scores...but will a 'free wildcard' and price rises be worth the risk?

I guess the other issue is jumping on false bandwagons because of a good GW1 score. Would be an easy trap to fall into.

        1. Shifty
          • 12 Years
          9 years, 11 months ago

Yea that's where the pre season research comes into play - surely there will be many certains in your team with room for a few 50/50s or punts you would like more information on.

GW1 could confirm some decisions for you and steady the boat in a way. It's worked this season but maybe this one's an anomaly?

      • 12 Years
      9 years, 11 months ago

The average gameweek for an active player is in the region of 55 points. 15 hits is 56 points. If you realise you made a mistake in gw1, don't be afraid to make a couple of early hits to stem the bleeding or WC if you want to make lots of changes. It's worked out for some people this season as the GW1 average was so low but more often than not you'll get left behind.

      1. Shifty
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 11 months ago

This season's 30 point GW1 was pathetic. Maybe this season was an anomaly but the fella 3rd in my ML started in season 2, had the right bandwagons and hasn't looked back in terms of points and team value.

I think the real lesson I've learned this season is not taking a few hits early doors and putting too much stock in past performance. Holding on to Hazard was a big mistake and not being willing to punt on "new blood" like Mahrez, Ighalo and Payet was a missed opportunity.

Under this priciple you could have a GW1 team and just take as many hits as necessary. Hopefully it would be positive afterwards and you would have a small boost on starting GW 2
