Next up this Friday afternoon, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article, casting an eye over the captaincy conundrum ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we analyse the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s reckoning, before rounding off with our opinion on the current poll standings in light of the data analysis, including our view on differential captains.

The Captain Poll

With over 39% of the votes cast, Harry Kane is the standout candidate in this week’s poll ahead of Tottenham’s home clash with Bournemouth. After bagging a brace in last week’s win over Villa, the 10.3-priced frontman will be looking to get the better of a backline that’s managed just three clean sheets on their travels all season.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (23%) takes second, with form and fixture very much on his side. The Swansea midfielder has racked up seven goals and an assist in his last 11 outings and is looking for a third double-figure haul in four at the Liberty this weekend. Up next is a visit from whipping boys Villa and with Remi Garde’s men shipping 17 goals in their previous five, captaining their opponents’ key protagonists has proven a canny tactic of late.

The weekend Manchester derby has dented our faith in Sergio Aguero. A blank at Norwich means the Argentine has now failed to score in three of the last four Gameweeks and with United up next at the Etihad, only 9% are trusting him with the captaincy this week.

The in-form Romelu Lukaku earns just 7% of this week’s votes for a home clash with Arsenal. Having racked up three goals and an assist in his last four league outings, the Belgian notched twice in Saturday’s cup win over Chelsea and has the momentum to put the Gunners’ title tilt to the sword.

Elsewhere, there are a cast of differentials for those willing to take a punt. Leicester duo Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy (both just 2%) cannot be ruled out as they travel to a Palace outfit that’s lost five on the bounce at Selhurst Park.

Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez visit an Everton side with the worst defensive record in the top-flight in front of their own fans. West Ham’s Dimitri Payet, meanwhile, has bagged four of his five double-figure hauls away from home this season and travels to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea have conceded in each of their last eight.

Are these current standings backed by the underlying statistics?

Let’s start breaking down the player and team data for their respective last four matches and shed a little more light on the situation.

Struggling to get feedback, any thoughts much appreciated! Planning a WC in week 33, and at a bit of a loss on what to do (have 2FTs). Some ideas are:

    A. Vardy -> Lukaku (+ Butland/Forster/Azpi to cheapo).
    B. Alli -> Traore (just a punt, would need to bench payet/vardy)
    C. Butland/Forster -> somebody better?

    Any of these worthwhile?

    Butland
    Fuchs Williams Alder
    Mahrez Payet Alli Sanchez
    Vardy Kane Aguero

    Henny|VVD|Daniels|Gosling

Got 2 FT and planning to use WC in 33.

Gosling&VVD>Siggy&Ogbonna and play Siggy instead of Fuchs with the AOA, any thoughts?

AoA lost me points when in a similar situation so not recommending it entirely. Maybe look to start getting in DGW players or, if you are wildcarding in 33, a punt which you can bench this week and has a decent fixture next week. Just one of VVD or Gosling would be the ones I'd look to ship.

Yeah good points, the thing is with this AOA I can never find a week to use it, VVD and Gosling won't be playing for me again they will just be on the bench until I WC, it's just a matter of will Siggy get more points than Fuchs this week, probably so but i'm not decided on it yet at all. thanks for reply

I can't decide whether to go with Ozil, sanche or ddg in gw33 and use bench boost in 37 or use payet in gw37 as triple captain and bench boost in gw33. I think if done right the first option will get more points.

Sanchez is a great dilemma for gw34. He has not done too much this year, yet he clearly has the potential and the two juicy home fixtures. It's a roll of the dice in a big way due to his price tag having an impact on the selection of other players.

    Forster to elliot

Allowing siggy and Toby to ozil and bellerin for free next week. Means 3 additional dgw players free as well

Where has all this Traore talk come from? I've been planning meticulosuly all week, following dgw announcements and team news. Why, today, is everyone talking about Traore? What did I miss?

Costa out and people want a punt

A false bangwagon.. just because he scored last week..
And Costa is out for 2 plum fixtures..

Moreover, Hiddink indicates he will hand young players a chance before the season finishes https://goo.gl/HnaeFZ

insatiable desire to punt for those wildcarding in 33 probably...not particularly sold on him...think all of the usual template mids (alli, payet, ozil, siggy, arnie, mahrez) are still better options

    Bench one:

    Payet Firmino Siggy Mahrez Alli
    Aguero Lukaku Kane

Currently benching Alli, but I can't make up my mind

Gut feeling. They'll be goals, and Lukaku will be involved.

This week is good for a punt. Kane wont score more than one. Kun against DeGea.

Seeing as though most peeps have the same/similar templates going into the next game weeks all with pretty good fixtures, why are people WCing so early and not waiting until GW33??

Will prices really rise that much over the break ??

    And advice welcomed 🙂
