England claw back a two-goal deficit as Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy inspire an unlikely England comeback in Berlin. Jack Butland’s role in that win is curtailed as Stoke City and his 27% Fantasy Premier League ownership wait on news on a potential ankle ligament injury…

Butland’s Night Wrecked By Ankle Injury

Stoke City’s Jack Butland was stretchered off at the end of the first half against Germany with an ankle injury. Post-match reports have suggested that the Potter’s stopper may have suffered ligament damage, with Roy Hodgson confirming that Butland’s setback will be assessed….

“It’s an ankle injury but we don’t know the extent. When you’re talking about ligaments, there’s always some kind of worry but we’ll assess him.”

The Scout Says: Given that he’s the highest owned (27%) Fantasy Premier League (FPL) keeper, Butland now looks destined to suffer significant sales with is current 5.4 price tag set to plummet. Despite a superb season as the Stoke number one, Butland was already looking vulnerable for the season run-in given current form (one clean sheet in nine outings) and Stoke’s testing schedule (SWA, liv, TOT, mci). More significantly, he seems destined to give way to double Gameweek 34 signings once Wildcards are in play. With Joe Hart and Petr Cech yet to return to the fray, Butland’s injury would likely promote interest in Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet, Everton’s Joel Robles and Manchester United’s David de Gea as the choice options between the sticks for the coming weeks. Despite this, prior to Butland’s injury scare, he was acquired by more FPL managers heading into Gameweek 32 than any other keeper (21,212).

Kane and Vardy Fire Warning Shots

A pair of superbly taken goals by Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy steered England to an unlikely comeback. The Leicester striker’s sublime flick represented his first goal in six starts in all competitions, while Kane’s accurate drive was his sixth strike in his last five starts. Dele Alli failed to find the net for England but shimmered throughout and was arguably England’s most impressive performer.

The Scout Says: The performances of Kane, Vardy and Alli on the international stage underlines that fact that the decision to maximise double Gameweek 34 acquisitions comes packaged with significant risk. Together with Riyad Mahrez, these established FPL assets enjoy favourable Gameweek 35 home fixtures with Spurs hosting West Brom and Leicester facing Swansea. Given the motivation and confidence, the decision to shed all four appears to represent a major gamble.

Ozil Assists As Germany Cave In

While England’s comeback stole the headlines, Mesut Ozil played his part for Germany on the night, laying on the assist for Toni Kroos’ opener.

The Scout Says: Following a run of three consecutive league blanks, Ozil has suffered significant sales with almost 58,000 opting to show the playmaker the door in the current Gameweek. That has seen his ownership slip to 43% with his price dropping to 9.7 having stood at 10.0 back in Gameweek 29. However, with Arsenal facing three home fixtures in the next three Gameweeks (WAT, whm, CPL/WBA), Ozil’s stock is on the rise. With a points per game average (6.2) that’s second only to Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and far superior to team-mate Alexis Sanchez (4.7), the German sits atop our Watchlist rankings heading into a spell that will decide Arsenal’s participation in the title race.

Dembele Injury Scare For Spurs

Mousa Dembele trained for Belgium amid reports that he’s suffered a flare-up of an ankle complaint. Dembele will likely be assessed again prior to the friendly with Portugal on Tuesday.

The Scout Says: Tottenham will be concerned that these latest reports could lead to a further absence for Dembele. The classy midfielder has established himself as a key component of their title challenge, not least for his apparent impact on the role and output of both Dele Alli and Harry Kane. The Belgian recently missed Gameweeks 16, 20, 27 and 28 through injury, during which time Alli and Kane recorded just a single goal between them. Those seeking to hold the Spurs pairing will be keenly monitoring Dembele’s fitness in light of this recent report.

Mane Maintains Recent Form

Sadio Mane followed up his brace of goals against Liverpool in Gameweek 31 by providing both assists as Senegal beat Niger 2-0.

The Scout Says: Mane’s spurt of goals and assists typifies a player who has proved a hugely frustrating Fantasy asset this term. Priced at 7.3 in the FPL, the winger has struggled to cement his Southampton starting role but could now be granted further minutes as Ronald Koeman bids to revive the Saints’ attacking threat. Southampton’s next four fixtures (lei, NEW, eve, avl) could offer strong potential for returns, yet the absence of a double Gameweek serves as a major deterrent and will likely ensure that Mane continues to be largely ignored as an FPL option.

Niasse On the Scoresheet

Oumar Niasse notched for Senegal as they ran out winners in their African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Scout Says: Niasse’s strike will send a message to Roberto Martinez and could see the attacker edge closer to his first Premier League start. Classified as a 6.5 forward, Niasse has so far been limited to just 18-minutes off the bench in Gameweeks 29 and 30. While he is unlikely to appeal as a target, Niasse’s impact on the pitch time of Everton’s other attacking options requires consideration. The Toffees will endure nine fixtures over the remaining seven Gameweeks, with double fixtures in Gameweeks 33, 34 and 37 ensuring that we’ll see rotation at play. Certainly, those Fantasy managers intrigued by the differential prospects of Aaron Lennon (four goals and one assist in six) will be wary of Niasse, Gerard Deulofeu and Kevin Mirallas curtailing his pitch-time. As such, Ross Barkley appears to represent the most secure accompaniment to Romelu Lukaku, yet the fact he’s only delivered attacking returns (brace against Newcastle United) in one of his last 10 starts is a concern for would-be investors.

They did have some form earlier in the season. Bolasie has an okay underlying stat and fixtures that backs that up is my thinking.

    Evenin'

I have found myself with a good OR and am looking for a semi-defensive wildcard team for GW 33.

I am thinking of keeping Kane, Mahrez and Simpson as SGWers but it seems odd not to have a Man U attacker given the incredible pair of fixtures. Here is my "Kane" team - too defensive? Perhaps I could go with Martial for GW33/4 and then Marital > Kane GW35.

    DDG Elliot

    Kos Bellerin Jag Sakho Simpson

    Mahrez Barkley Ozil Payet Firminho

    Kane Aguero Lukaku

STO, bou & EVE, NEW, swa, WAT & CHE

I don't think he'd need many minutes to score points, but it'll obviously affect his BAPS (not that he's good at BAPS)

        If I was offered: 60, 75, 90, 60, 75, 75, 90mins, he'd 100% have him.

Won't you need the FTs to field a 11 DGW?

I have similar dilemma. Need 3 FTs from GW35 and only have 10 players then.

If doing Antonio -> Alli -> Antonio is 8 point hit. Not keen.

Other option is consider getting a Chelsea asset? Rojo -> Azpi?

One thing I'm not seeing on here, is people seemingly prepared to take hits in 35.

If you think you can get the best 34 team leaving only 7 or 8 players with the 35 fixtures. Why not just go for it? You're using a bench boost lots of players won't have. Is a 4 or even 8 point hit the week after to set yourself back up for the season not worth it?

    1. Backup Dancer

Gw 35 is a bit of a thorn in the flesh but at least we can plan for it.
I can navigate 33 thru to 37 without a hit but I'm not going to give myself optimum scoring in 33 & 34 if I overly worry about 35 without taking a hit.
I've never seen pre DGW chat on here so anti-hit before.

It's the influence of the influential posters

I'm not knocking them, their writing is great, their resource invaluable. But others latch onto their work and run with it. The seamlessly transitioning wildcard that goes hit free from now to the end of the season is a vogue thing on ffs.

I play my dgws with big hits and the balls out, as I say better spending -4 or -8 to go in covered than get screwed. The same applies to the blanks vs a non player it's a cheap hit.

    4. Koflok
      • 13 Years
      10 years, 4 days ago

It depends, if it's a hit to get rid of non-DGW37 players it makes sense, not the other way around.

I have 4 outfield blanks, and need the 3 FT to get a full 11 DGW in GW37.

I can do Antonio (5th mid) to Alli to field 11 players in GW 35 and then back to Antonio for the DGW. But effectively that's a 8 point hit.

Alli (STO) -8pts? Don't think it's worth it.

If you have an extra FT / only need 2 and make it -4pts. Then yeah it's understandable.

I agree it's pointless on players who then have a double. But I can take out two palace players for a hit for a Sunderland and a pool player and I'm fine with that.

Also Watford I think will rotate a bit towards end, especially if in cup. I'd be happy for troy to shift for defoe, who loves playing arsenal

I think that is a sensible view.

It would have been different if there was the blank 'before' the DGW, then hits would be easier because you will make it up. The added risks in the current situation are injuries to players in your team playing in 35 who you were banking on, resulting in additional hits.

I am ok with hits, but if fine margins in ML then better to have SGWers to cover 35 provided the fixtures are ok.

Im basically treating 35 as an extension of 34 like one big ass GW

It's all about striking a balance between maximising points and not compromising your squad doing so

Im all for taking hits and probably take more than most but have tried to limit them to a certain extent and going into any GW knowing il have to take one or 2 to field 11 players isn't something im prepared to do as another injury or 2 could leave you with serious difficulties

Could it work? course it could.. Could it blow up in your face? you bet your ass

i would prefer some guarantee of starts from the arsenal defender, as he will be crucial (not being subbed out til end of season) and they have very good fixtures not to be missed out on. i hope gabriel can nail down his spot, would be perfect at that price

How about this for a WC for DGW34:

2.9 ITB so can ship Martial for Kane after Utd's DGW

    Robles - Elliot
    Bellerin - Gabriel - Darmian - Walker - Simpson
    Firmino - Payet - Ozil - Bolasie - Mahrez
    Aguero - Martial - Lukaku

      1
      2
      5
      3

11 out of 15. Defence needs work in my opinion. Two singles is fine, but not when two of your others are a bit risky in terms of starting

Can you afford de gea and jags/Janmat for robles and darmien?

I think walker could go, for a cheaper enabler. Isn't rose cheaper?

Rose and Walker are both 5.1

Can't afford DDG & Jags. Not too fussed about Everton defence because of Martinez. Would rather West Ham def.

DDG's price is killing my chances of bringing Kane back

    Mignolet - Robles
    Bellerin - Smalling - Sakho - Janmaat - Reid
    Özil - Payet - Firmino - Mahrez - Lingard
    Agüero - Kane - Lukaku

    0.0 ITB !

    GW35 is a big worry...

Not sure on 2x LIV def. but they have a GW35 fixture, Smalling very expensive but can I trust Rojo? Also not sure on Lingard's game time.

We wait all year for the DGW, three come along at once, then most posts talk of wildcards with multiple single gameweek players.
This is great news. Whilst this site helps me get ahead of the masses, it's more difficult to catch FFS users armed with knowledge.
Now it's apparent that the majority have lost their nerve and developed a fear of losing team value rather than points, I should sail in a sea of purest green 🙂

Is not the fear of losing team value. Its the fear of losing points. Kane might be expensive and an SGWer but in current form, you can't count him out in favour of even someone like Martial who had those delicious fixtures. That says it all.

      1. Clump
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 4 days ago

Kane is the only player that (perhaps) warrants a spot. Leicester have gone into one nil mode.
I just don't get WC teams with 4 or 5 SGW players. Loads with Fuchs and Simpson. Come on, live a little.

          • 11 Years

Simpson Fuchs are not there for fear, they are just enablers to get 2 points in GW35 without a hit. CS a bonus if they get one. They will go in GW36. Almost everybody who havr them are looking to get rid right after GW35.
