Stephane Sessegnon scores twice as Benin stroll to victory. Stoke stopper Jack Butland is ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured ankle, Kasper Schmeichel allays any injury fears, whilst reports suggest Toby Alderweireld could miss Belgium’s clash with Portugal due to illness.

Sessegnon at the double

Stephane Sessegnon bagged a brace for Benin as they recorded a 4-1 victory over South Sudan in their African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Scout Says: Sessegnon has now notched three times in two appearances over the break, though with one goal and two assists to his name all season, he’s been no more than a peripheral Fantasy figure. In terms of tapping into West Bromwich Albion’s attacking potential, Salomon Rondon (four goals and one assist in seven outings) is the only player that courts our interest. Looking beyond the Baggies’ upcoming pair of road ties (sun, mci), they embark on a mixed bag of a double Gameweek (WAT & ars). Although the Venezuelan frontman boasts good form, the fact that he mustered just six attempts in his previous four outings renders him an ambitious punt for out three-man frontlines.

Butland ruled out for Potters

Jack Butland has been ruled out for around three months after scans showed that he fractured his ankle playing against Germany.

The Scout Says: Given that Butland is the most popular keeper (27% ownership) in the Fantasy Premier League, his long-term layoff will scupper many a transfer plan heading into Gameweek 32. That being said, Stoke’s schedule turns nasty (liv, TOT, mci) after their visit from Swansea next weekend, so it’s arguably a good time to ship the custodian of a defence that’s managed a solitary clean sheet in nine outings. By that same token, we’re unenthused by the budget potential of Jakob Haugaard (4.4), who looks set to benefit from the fact that Shay Given is also consigned to the treatment room.

Schmeichel allays injury fears

Kasper Schmeichel confirmed via Twitter that he pulled out of Denmark’s training session as a precaution and not because of a fresh hamstring injury.

The Scout Says: By virtue of Butland’s season-ending ankle complaint, the three highest-owned goalkeepers (Butland, Petr Cech and Joe Hart) could be on the sidelines next Gameweek. Although Schmeichel’s 12% ownership will be relieved by his statement, many will already be scouring the market for suitable replacements who are scheduled to take part in a double Gameweek 34. Nonetheless, for those who no longer have wildcards to wield, it will be difficult to discard a shot-stopper that’s profited from four clean sheets in five matches and can be snapped up at the tantalisingly low price of 4.8 – particularly when Leicester, who conceded in just one of their last seven home clashes, entertain teams at the King Power Stadium in three of the next four Gameweeks.

Shaqiri withdraws from Swiss squad

Xherdan Shaqiri has admitted defeat in his bid to recover from a thigh injury in time for Switzerland’s clash with Bosnia. The winger has subsequently left his nation’s training camp and will return to Stoke to receive treatment ahead of the home clash with Swansea.

The Scout Says: Stoke’s challenging schedule and lack of any double Gameweeks discourages any further investment in their Fantasy assets. Nonetheless, the 18% of managers who’ve recruited Marko Arnautovic (three goals in five) will feel inclined to retain the Austrian for at least one more Gameweek, given that the Potters invite a Swansea City outfit that’s mustered just one clean sheet in away matches this term.

Mitrovic set for Serbia return

Having been forced to miss Serbia’s friendly against Poland following the concussion he sustained in the Tyne-Wear derby, Aleksandar Mitrovic has been given the all-clear to represent his country against Estonia on Tuesday:

“People called from Newcastle, asked to wait a minimum of five days after the match, after losing consciousness and didn’t want to take any chances. It’s all right now, I am ready.”

The Scout Says: Since Rafa Benitez took the reins at Newcastle two Gameweeks ago, Mitrovic ranks joint-top among forwards for shots inside the box (seven) and bagged the late leveler against Sunderland last time around. Examining the Magpies’ attacking output as a unit, only five teams chalked up more attempts (29) and shots inside the box (18) across their last two outings, which should ensure that Norwich City are in for a testing afternoon after the international break. Once the Tynesiders have navigated their two road encounters (nor, sou), back-to-back home match-ups during their double Gameweek 34 (SWA & MCI) encourage us to explore the likes of Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum as possible differentials as Benitez attempts to steer the Magpies to safety.

Minor Concerns for Tottenham

Reports in the Belgian press suggest that Toby Alderweireld will miss Belgium’s friendly against Portugal because of illness. Elsewhere, the Argentina media indicate that Erik Lamela picked up a minor muscle injury during training and will be assessed prior to facing Bolivia in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Scout Says: Alderweireld’s hefty 44% ownership in FPL will be optimistic he’ll recover in time for the weekend trip to Anfield. As a result of his capacity for attacking returns (three goals and assists), the ex-Atletico Madrid centre-back ranks top among all defenders for total score (139), which serves as a warning for managers who intend to cash in for the double Gameweeks. The Lilywhites might struggle to contain the Reds (13 goals in four) at Anfield, but their subsequent home ties against Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion – who both chart in the bottom six for shots inside the box in road matches – look more conducive to clean sheets. Lamela’s potential absence would pave the way for Heung-Min Son to reclaim a starting berth, but his classification as a forward negates his Fantasy appeal at a time when double Gameweek shopping is a priority.

thoughts on this WC team? (0.1 ITB)

    DDG/Elliot
    Smalling/Bellerin/Clyne/Coleman/W.Reid
    Sanchez/Ozil/Payet/Coutinho/Mahrez
    Kane/Lukaku/Rashford

Plan on keeping Kane and Mahrez despite no DGWs. Also currently only have 8 players for GW35 but plan to make three transfers for -4.

Shows really what you can build without Aguero and allows you to bench Rashford most weeks.
Good stuff but personally Aguero is the first name on my team sheet.

the problem with City is their consistency. If I got Aguero who would I downgrade, Sanchez? But then that would mean probably ditching Kane, which I'm reluctant to do.

Out of interest... will all three of your transfers be for players who have a GW37 DGW? If not, those are wasted transfers.

Seen loads of wildcards on here recently but not much talk on captain for this week.

Really surprised by how far Kane is down on the poll. Nailed on captain for me this week.

Are most on here going Kun?

    Hello all.

I'd be intrigued to hear people's thoughts on this plan..

    GW33 WC to:

    Robles Courtois
    Clyne Clichy Huth Bellerín Janmaat
    Barkley Payet Firmino Coutinho Özil
    Lukaku Welbeck Kane

GW34 - TC Chip, Carry the FT
    GW35 - 11 players, Carry the FT
    GW36 - Clichy & Huth > Rojo & Cresswell
GW37 - Welbeck > Martial, 12 DGW Players, BB Chip
    GW38 - AOA Chip

I'm aware that my BB will only consist of 12 DGW players, but I don't really want to get rid of my single GW'ers. Obviously this all depends on injuries and rotation.

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 32

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 2pm tomorrow (Tuesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 2pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

In addition, from this week FantasyBet (https://www.fantasybet.com/) are offering Community Champions the chance to win free entry into their £500 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22 by taking on our Scout Picks in a specially set up game.

The eligible Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £600 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55. This is an extra offer that is available to any community champion who is 18 or over and not based in the US.

Champions will not be able to be selected as a champion for a second time. The champion will be revealed in a new midweek Scout Picks article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

Little output from him and probably the first player to be rotated from the attacking players given their hectic schedual puts me off.

A debate which includes llalana as well in fairness. They are all so subject to rotation that I'm happier avoiding all three. But I'd be happy to hear a fans view on the trio and how they would fit in over the next month with so many games

From what I've seen many plan to get both. That's why I posed the Lallana question.

Sturidge being fit would be very helpful, there's so many DGW midfield options, fewer forwards.

WC active. What's your thoughts on it and what do you think about my plan afterwards?

    Elliot l Robles
    Kosc l Gabriel l Rojo l Dann l Sakho
    Sanchez l Marhez l Payet l Barkley l Bolasie
    Mitrovic l Aguero l Lukaku

    3.1ITB

    Plan:
    GW33: Save FT, Lukaku TC
GW34: Bolasie --> Coutinho, save 2nd FT, BB
    GW35: Dann + Barkley --> PVA + Lallana / Chelsea mid
    GW36: save FT
GW37: bring 2 more DGW players

Chile playing at 0030 on Wednesday morning. Do we know if Sanchez has missed PL games on the b ack of int duty before? Or is Arsenals injury problems too significant for him to miss out

He never misses when fit.. He wants to keep playing so Wenger will play him. Besides they don't have mid week games now.

Sanchez always looks completely knackered when he gets back from South America. It will be interesting to see the comments on here if and when he has a very quiet game against Watford. Don't use GW32 as a yardstick to judge him for a WC.

Had a bit of a re think late last night. I can make this team with 0.0 left.
Depending on how this goes I may wc today.

    All opinions appreciated.

    Elliot, Robles

    Rojo, Sakho, Ward, Gabriel, Olsson

    Sanchez, Ozil, Coutinho, Payet, Mahrez

    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

      I'd say it's a nice team.

If you WC now, then you'll have an extra transfer to burn going into GW34, so I'd put Bolasie in your team at the expense of Coutinho but keep the money in the bank to get him back in 34 (and still be able to carry 2FT going into GW35 to get Sun/Chelsea players

Slightly worried about the weak defence but would hope the heavy attack would make up for it.

Good idea, if I go for it ill keep that in mind.

Whats everyone's thinking about playing their TCC.... I guess the most obvious options are:

    GW34
Utd - AVL/CPL (DDG, Smailing, Rashford, Mata)
    Ars - CPL/WBA (0zil, Giroud, Sanchez)

    GW37
    Whm - SWA/MUN (Payet, Antono)

I'm leaning towards Payet in GW37 - can't bring myself to captain a defender and I don't trust utds attack. And whilst Ozil is consistent he isn't explosive and Sanchez and Giroud are inconsistent right now.

    What's your thinking here chaps?

GW37 for me (Payet looks good). I'll play BB GW34.

Good sumary, leaning to 37 right now.
Kinda wish at this stage I didn't TC Aguero V Newc a while back when I thought of it.

Payet in GW37 for me also. West Ham will be fighting for that 4th place, and Utd at home is perfect for Payet imo, he likes those big games

I can get this team out in 33 and 34 with No hits / no WC.

    Henna (butters)
    Otamendi/Bellerin/Sahko (Simpson/Wolly)
    Barkley/Özil/Payet/Firminho (Mahrez)
    Aguero/Lukaku/Kane.

Looks like I may do Butters > Migs for 34 or take a hit
I may change Sahko > Rojo then.

    Would you WC this?

I'd say you're in pretty good shape to delay playing WC. But my only worry would be GW33. I'll probably have 5DGWers, then 12 or 13 DGWers (Bench boost) in DGW34. That could be a quite a lot of extra points which will be hard for you to capitalise on in DGW37 (where I'll still have 11 DGWers)

Fair point and this is on my mind too, 'lost points' and losing ground.
WC in 33 may have more impact on OR.
