Stephane Sessegnon scores twice as Benin stroll to victory. Stoke stopper Jack Butland is ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured ankle, Kasper Schmeichel allays any injury fears, whilst reports suggest Toby Alderweireld could miss Belgium’s clash with Portugal due to illness.

Sessegnon at the double

Stephane Sessegnon bagged a brace for Benin as they recorded a 4-1 victory over South Sudan in their African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Scout Says: Sessegnon has now notched three times in two appearances over the break, though with one goal and two assists to his name all season, he’s been no more than a peripheral Fantasy figure. In terms of tapping into West Bromwich Albion’s attacking potential, Salomon Rondon (four goals and one assist in seven outings) is the only player that courts our interest. Looking beyond the Baggies’ upcoming pair of road ties (sun, mci), they embark on a mixed bag of a double Gameweek (WAT & ars). Although the Venezuelan frontman boasts good form, the fact that he mustered just six attempts in his previous four outings renders him an ambitious punt for out three-man frontlines.

Butland ruled out for Potters

Jack Butland has been ruled out for around three months after scans showed that he fractured his ankle playing against Germany.

The Scout Says: Given that Butland is the most popular keeper (27% ownership) in the Fantasy Premier League, his long-term layoff will scupper many a transfer plan heading into Gameweek 32. That being said, Stoke’s schedule turns nasty (liv, TOT, mci) after their visit from Swansea next weekend, so it’s arguably a good time to ship the custodian of a defence that’s managed a solitary clean sheet in nine outings. By that same token, we’re unenthused by the budget potential of Jakob Haugaard (4.4), who looks set to benefit from the fact that Shay Given is also consigned to the treatment room.

Schmeichel allays injury fears

Kasper Schmeichel confirmed via Twitter that he pulled out of Denmark’s training session as a precaution and not because of a fresh hamstring injury.

The Scout Says: By virtue of Butland’s season-ending ankle complaint, the three highest-owned goalkeepers (Butland, Petr Cech and Joe Hart) could be on the sidelines next Gameweek. Although Schmeichel’s 12% ownership will be relieved by his statement, many will already be scouring the market for suitable replacements who are scheduled to take part in a double Gameweek 34. Nonetheless, for those who no longer have wildcards to wield, it will be difficult to discard a shot-stopper that’s profited from four clean sheets in five matches and can be snapped up at the tantalisingly low price of 4.8 – particularly when Leicester, who conceded in just one of their last seven home clashes, entertain teams at the King Power Stadium in three of the next four Gameweeks.

Shaqiri withdraws from Swiss squad

Xherdan Shaqiri has admitted defeat in his bid to recover from a thigh injury in time for Switzerland’s clash with Bosnia. The winger has subsequently left his nation’s training camp and will return to Stoke to receive treatment ahead of the home clash with Swansea.

The Scout Says: Stoke’s challenging schedule and lack of any double Gameweeks discourages any further investment in their Fantasy assets. Nonetheless, the 18% of managers who’ve recruited Marko Arnautovic (three goals in five) will feel inclined to retain the Austrian for at least one more Gameweek, given that the Potters invite a Swansea City outfit that’s mustered just one clean sheet in away matches this term.

Mitrovic set for Serbia return

Having been forced to miss Serbia’s friendly against Poland following the concussion he sustained in the Tyne-Wear derby, Aleksandar Mitrovic has been given the all-clear to represent his country against Estonia on Tuesday:

“People called from Newcastle, asked to wait a minimum of five days after the match, after losing consciousness and didn’t want to take any chances. It’s all right now, I am ready.”

The Scout Says: Since Rafa Benitez took the reins at Newcastle two Gameweeks ago, Mitrovic ranks joint-top among forwards for shots inside the box (seven) and bagged the late leveler against Sunderland last time around. Examining the Magpies’ attacking output as a unit, only five teams chalked up more attempts (29) and shots inside the box (18) across their last two outings, which should ensure that Norwich City are in for a testing afternoon after the international break. Once the Tynesiders have navigated their two road encounters (nor, sou), back-to-back home match-ups during their double Gameweek 34 (SWA & MCI) encourage us to explore the likes of Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum as possible differentials as Benitez attempts to steer the Magpies to safety.

Minor Concerns for Tottenham

Reports in the Belgian press suggest that Toby Alderweireld will miss Belgium’s friendly against Portugal because of illness. Elsewhere, the Argentina media indicate that Erik Lamela picked up a minor muscle injury during training and will be assessed prior to facing Bolivia in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Scout Says: Alderweireld’s hefty 44% ownership in FPL will be optimistic he’ll recover in time for the weekend trip to Anfield. As a result of his capacity for attacking returns (three goals and assists), the ex-Atletico Madrid centre-back ranks top among all defenders for total score (139), which serves as a warning for managers who intend to cash in for the double Gameweeks. The Lilywhites might struggle to contain the Reds (13 goals in four) at Anfield, but their subsequent home ties against Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion – who both chart in the bottom six for shots inside the box in road matches – look more conducive to clean sheets. Lamela’s potential absence would pave the way for Heung-Min Son to reclaim a starting berth, but his classification as a forward negates his Fantasy appeal at a time when double Gameweek shopping is a priority.

How would you improve this front 8 for this week? Going AOA

    Ozil Mahrez Arnie Ali Siggy
    Kun Vardy Kane

2.2m Payet in for sure, maybe Welbeck for Vardy? Drop Ali or Siggy?

    Bench one this coming week

    A) Vardy
    B) Alli

Another option would be C) Traore, but his 0.1% ownership plus possible OOP potential against Villa makes him a gamble worth taking in my book

Yeah, I'm worried he won't start too. But weighing up the risk v's the reward. It's worth starting him.

Vardy doesn't get very big scores (but is extremely consistent) usually, so I think I'll go for him and will likely just miss out on 5-7points if he does get some points

England have great striking options (Better than two of three favourites in Germany and Spain) but the midfield and defence is a concern.

I like the look of France alot. Germany are a little flawed now and Spain were really hit by the last tournament (and the loss of Puyol and Xavi and the lessening of Iniesta's influence).

Hart will always be Hodgson's number 1 regardless. Gutted we have lost Jack for the season as he would of pushed Hart for the jersey but just don't think Hodgson would be brave enough to drop Hart even if Butland was fit.

Right, I woke up this morning absolutely brimming full of fantasy optimism and I've decided that Marcus Rashford is 100% nailed into my WC team. I'm fully aware of the fact that he probably won't get 180 minutes against Villa & Palace but he quite possibly won't require nearly as much time as that to make an impact against those two sides anyway. Villa and Palace are currently the two worst performing teams in the Premier league (P12, W0 D2 L10 GA29). Villa have basically given up altogether and Palace have only won four games since Christmas - all FA cup ties. Coincidentally, Palaces following fixture is four days later at Wembley. Perhaps there might be a tendency for the Palace players to let their minds wander elsewhere and reserve their best for that semi-final?

Apart from Aguero & Lukaku, what other DGW forward is there to choose from anyway? Mitrovic might have two home ties but six goals in 26 games isn't exactly awe inspiring: The Watford duo have two away games against fairly resolute defences and overall they haven't been in the best of form: Rondon's fixtures between GWs 33 & 35 are shocking: Sturridge, Giroud, Wellbeck & Rooney have their own game time issues whilst it's hard to find a suitable candidate from West Ham or Palace.

So at 4.5m it has to be young Marcus; all those extra millions he frees up allows you to build a dream defence and midfield to go to war with. Try making up a WC team both with him and without him.

    You'll see what I mean.

Yeah. But Wayne is back and those games are three weeks away from now. He will probably only play twenty minutes in both of them.

Hmm, I reckon he might start one and come on in the other. LVG isn't going to drop him like a stone after doing so well.

        100 minutes maybe?

If the double was this week yes. But it's not. Wayne will be on bench next two and will start in 34. Only change for the Rash is that he might start wide right over lingard

I'm tempted to take this sort of approach but his value is another problem, if the money is used up in defence and midfield you'll be stuck with him even if he isn't playing. Plus there is a high risk of him making 1 point appearances off the bench.

    6. Rossonero
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 11 months ago

I'm going to get him instead Kane. I think it is a reasonable gamble that he can match Kane points over those two fixtures. And then dump himnfor Defoe in gw36 for his double is the plan.

I like your WC in part, although De Gea must start this weekend. If he doesn't, why go with De Gea and Elliot? It means you have a goalkeeper unlikely to score points in GW 32, 33 and 35.

My main concerns would be 1) the lack of a Liverpool midfielder, especially given the devastating form of Firm (who has surely been the best in the game over his last 7/8 GWs) and the potential of Coutinho. 2) Sturridge, who I expect will be rested for one of the two games 3) The lack of mids and strikers playing GW 35.

I think Martial makes alot of sense. Mata would do to, and may well be the best attacking player to own, but he is diminished as an option by the other great midfield choices (Ozil, Sanchez, Firm, Coutinho, Payet, Barkley, Wijnaldum).

Yeah this is the issue I'm having atm. I'm toying with letting Kane go for him, but I expect that I'm going to go with the boring Kun, Lukaku and Kane and compensate with a poor defence.

It's the GW35 that is the killer, as Kane is a prime captain option and transferring in him for someone will take alot of work based on my drafts.

      I'm going Lennon yeah,.

To be honest the rotation risk with Deulo is there but Barkley has been so inconsistent this year that he could easily blank in the 4 games they have, Lennon on the other had is in amazing form

Spent years watching Lennon flatter to deceive with no end product at Spurs. I never quite trust him for fpl, although I grant you form is good.

I think rotation with 4 games in 2 weeks ahead of the cup semi final is inevitable.

Hi everyone, anything I can do with this squad? (Transfers not WC'ing till 36, hence the inclusion of some players without DGWs etc.)

    Robles / Elliot
    Smalling / Gabriel / Williams / Daniels / Simpson
Ozil / Firmino or Coutinho / Payet / Mahrez / Alli
    Kun / Lukaku / Kane

As long as Gabriel plays/Everton or Newcastle tighten up I think its okay, but certainly appreciate suggestions. Thanks in advance everyone.

Those sticking with Harry on 34 are so exposed if he blanks that Monday night. Everyone will have over players and much better midfielders still to step out again

I will pray for you all.

A front Three of kun, lukaku and Harry just kills your squad. One has to go. And only one plays once that week.

    Ozil or Sanchez or both?.

Ozil. Could go both though if there are no other options for you.

Trouble with Sanchez is the 'imminent' stuff which cost people over the first 6 gameweeks he was back fit. He's starting to show returns now though.

I'm doubling up. For me it's a simple choice

Alexis or Troy (or other cheap forward)
      Or
Kane and Milner (or 7m or less mid)

Alex over those two home games? I do not want to miss that. Simple as. I fear that much more than one Harry game.

All these drafts seem a bit pointless. We'll know so much more after this weekend / GW33 pressers:

    - Is Cech fit?
    - Is Rooney fit? Is Rashford nailed on?
    - Is Sanchez in true form?
    - Does Ozil blank again?
    - Will de Bruyne be fit?
    - Is Sturridge first choice? Are Origi/Benteke injured?
    - Are Man City worth investing in?
    - Will it be Mangala or Demichelis to replace Kompany?
    - Does Gabriel start again?

    etc etc

Certain answers could change five or six positions in your wildcard team.

      - Is Cech fit? - Don't care.
      - Is Rooney fit? Is Rashford nailed on? - Don't care.
      - Is Sanchez in true form? - Will know by then.
      - Does Ozil blank again? - The Dark side of probability ...
      - Will de Bruyne be fit? - Don't care.
      - Is Sturridge first choice? Are Origi/Benteke injured?
      - Are Man City worth investing in? - No.
      - Will it be Mangala or Demichelis to replace Kompany? - Don't care.
      - Does Gabriel start again? - Don't care.

Lennon will be rested in at least one of the four for Deulofeu/Mirallas. But the question is whether Barkley is rested too, which I expect he will be given the FA Cup semi. The first DGW will be alot safer for the Everton options, and I'd be inclined to stick with only Robles and Lukaku. Coleman would be the next best but is a little costly.

I will own Robles and Lukaku for both DGW's and no one else. What do you think about a Bolasie punt for the DGW ?
