Next up, we turn our attentions to the weekend’s ten fixtures. With many Fantasy managers preparing to wildcard next week, we’re monitoring the form of Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland and Newcastle’s strikers, whilst City’s fit-again Belgian and the battle of West Ham’s budget midfielders are also on the agenda.

Welbeck’s form ahead of the double….
As we prepare to reassemble our squads for the upcoming doubles, there’s promising signs that the former United man has nailed down a regular role under Arsene Wenger. Welbeck has been named in the Arsenal first XI in three of the last four Gameweeks and led the line in back-to-back clashes against Spurs and Everton, heightening his appeal at a price of 7.3 in FPL. With his opener against the Toffees taking his tally to three strikes and an assist in just five appearances, Welbeck may well find his way into more wildcard plans if he produces the goods at home to Watford.

Iwobi’s minutes….
Handed a surprise start away to Barcelona in the Champions League, the youngster retained his spot for the Gunners’ trip to Goodison. Iwobi vindicated his manager’s decision by netting the second in a 2-0 win and looks to have edged ahead of the likes of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell for a role on the flank. At a price of 4.5, his value for money will be hard to ignore for many wildcarders if Wenger unleashes him from the off against the Hornets on Saturday.

…and Sturridge’s….
Liverpool’s fit-again frontman highlighted his goal-getting capabilities by bagging his fourth goal in just over 400 minutes of pitch time this term against Southampton in the previous Gameweek. Encouragingly for any would-be suitors, Jurgen Klopp chose to start Sturridge at St Mary’s just three days after he was named in the first XI United in the Europa League, which suggests that the striker’s fitness is on the up after numerous stints on the sidelines. With nine fixtures in the final nine Gameweeks, including a couple of doubles, Sturridge – with a mere 1% ownership – could prove a deadly differential if Klopp can keep him out of the treatment room.

De Bruyne’s return to the City fold….
After a couple of months on the sidelines, the Belgian’s return to full training earlier this week has Fantasy managers on alert as we start to firm up our wildcard plans. De Bruyne’s average of 5.5 points per appearances is greater than any City attacker this season and with Manuel Pellegrini’s men set for a double Gameweek 34, his fitness will be eagerly monitored. Now down to 4% ownership, the summer signing could be a devastating differential if he can prove his fitness from this point onwards.

Mitrovic’s momentum….
The Serbian seems to have won the race to lead the line under Rafa Benitez at Newcastle, starting both matches since the new manager was installed at St James’. Mitrovic’s equaliser against Sunderland backed up his recent improvement since the departure of Steve McClaren – he’s joint-top with Harry Kane for efforts inside the box over the last two Gameweeks, with seven apiece. At a time when Georginio Wijnaldum has been moved to a deep-lying role in the double-pivot, Mitrovic could emerge as the best route into the Magpies attack for the double and beyond.

Lanzini as the Hammers’ budget option….
The Hammers midfielder threw his hat into the ring ahead of their pair of double Gameweeks by netting in the 2-2 stalemate at Stamford Bridge last time around. With many looking to acquire Dimitri Payet for the run-in, Lanzini and Michail Antonio could be set to battle it out for our affections as the Hammers host struggling Palace this time around. Priced at just 4.9, Lanzini could barge his way past the former Forest flier if he can start to replicate the form that served up three goals and two assists in six appearances between Gameweek 8-13.

Mahrez and Kane’s pre-wildcard form….
As we start to plan for the impending doubles, the popular Fantasy pair remain in fine fettle as Leicester and Spurs battle it out for the title. Mahrez has bagged the winner in two of the Foxes last three, whilst two goals and an assist against Bournemouth helped Kane produce back-to-back double figure hauls for the first time this term. Owned by 68% and 46% respectively, can we really afford to cash them in at this point?

Martinez’ wide men….
With a trio of double Gameweeks to contend with, the Toffees look primed for wildcard investment over the run-in. Although Ross Barkley’s security of starts ensures he remains the favoured midfield option, his lack of form – ten blanks in 12 appearances – has been anything but convincing. Aaron Lennon has now started the last six and racked up four goals and an assist over that period, though with the likes of Kevin Mirallas now back from suspension and big-money signing Oumar Niasse getting amongst the goals over the international break, Martinez’ penchant for rotation could still scupper our plans for investing in the Toffees options out wide.

Bolasie’s chance to shine….
It’s fair to say that Palace’s form could barely be more unconvincing as they prepare for back-to-back doubles in Gameweeks 33 and 34. Having conceded in each of the last 11, many may baulk at Scott Dann’s 5.7 asking price, whilst at the other end of the pitch, the uncertainty surrounding Connor Wickham’s fitness is enough to deter investment. In the centre of the park, though, there’s hope that Yannick Bolasie may spring into form just in time. Granted, the wide man has been anything but consistent but, as ten and 15-point hauls against West Brom and Newcastle attest to, he’s capable of explosive returns on his day. We’ll be keeping a keen eye on his Upton Park showing, particularly with that pair of home clashes against Norwich and Everton in Gameweek 33 in mind.

Defoe as a third forward….
Back-to-back goals against Southampton and Newcastle in the last two Gameweeks took the Sunderland forward’s total to 12 for the season – a tally bettered by only five other frontmen. Despite his key contribution and a very kind 5.1 price tag, Defoe remain in just 4% of FPL teams as the Black Cats prepare to host West Brom this weekend. With a double Gameweek 37 also to follow, another goal-getting display could earn him a place in some wildcard teams as he becomes increasingly vital to the Wearsiders’ survival bid.

I've got a couple of questions for you guys before I hit the sack:

    1) Captain Aguero or Payet? Why?
    2) Bench Firmino or Alli? Why?

My logic is Aguero(because safe pick, though worried about game time with P$G game) and Firmino(no idea, just not feeling it with Alli for some reason).

I'd captain Aguero if you have a decent rank.
I would also play Firmino (although he's doubtful to play).

I'm chasing by about 50 points in my league, but I don't want to choke up prior to DGWs and make that gap bigger, so I'll play it safe with (c). Firmino vs. Alli is a head scratcher, though, especially with how well Alli has been playing. Might just play Firmino and take Alli points off the bench.

Seems a no brainer to me on captain this week - Payet. Home against woeful Palace, in fine fettle, and a player and a half to boot. Live dangerously!

The wildcards we are mostly putting up do concern me to be honest. There is so much emphasis on fixtures rather than form.

I hope it doesn't end up like GW 1 all over again

      sssssh.

It should be a mixture. I'd like to think mine is a mixture of fixtures and form. Then again, I like to think lots of things that turn out to be wrong.

How's this for a dullard wc draft for 33? I don't have amazing tv

    Migs Robles
Bellerin Rojo Gabriel (risk acknowledged) Olsson (to Klose for 35) Simpson
Ozil Payet Coutinho Mahrez Milner (I did say dullard)
    Aguero Kane Lukaku

I think Milner is a great choice and has been on of the few constants in every draft team I've made up. imo I'd have a max of 2 non dgw players if you're planning on BB.

I could squeeze in one more doubler, but it would mean using 2 fts for 35 and the knock on might be one fewer decent doubler in 37

          Otamendi to Ivan/Azpi looks good.

Eriksen and Alli's points are difficult to predict , hence tough to bench the correct player.

I wouldn't go for Welbeck, as I don't think he is nailed and Watford are decent defensively.

Yeah, for sure. Earlier in the season when he came back from injury Pel said he could play 3 in 8. Only thing I think he may be subbed early if City are winning in the games prior to the CL quarters

The WBA game is 3 days before PSG 2nd leg..seems like a waste. What does Pelle care about getting top 4? He's out and he's won it before. But the CL? I think he wants that.

Was going to say they cant really afford to with their top 4 credentials under serious threat but does Pellegrini really care at this stage? He may throw everything at the champions league and in that case want Kun in tip top shape for those

Yeah I was just saying this the other day too, what does Pellegrini care about the Premier League? It's not his team and they announced Pep while he was still in charge and he's won it before. Champions League would be the cherry on top.

Pride gets you though so I think he'd probably want both. I think whomever he plays will push enough to make sure they get top 4 anyway, they won't want europa next season or to look bad to Pep when he comes in

They can't tell him who to pick though. I just think it would be a waste for him to start his best player in a game that doesn't matter to him. There is tangible difference between 4th or 5th or 2nd, they're not winning the title. They could win the CL though and they play PSG 3 days after that in the second leg at the Etihad. The biggest game of their season.

I agree I don't think they are good enough to beat PSG

People think calling the PL the best league in the world is a joke. It isn't, it is the best league, the quality of the teams lower down is vastly superior to the other leagues

But our elite teams are not at the same level as Barca, Real, Athletico, Bayern, Juve and PSG and that is why our teams struggle in Europe

United 2007-2009 was the last truly great club side to come out of the PL

Ideally the first leg only has 1-2 goals in it. A PSG 2-1 win would be lovely to give them that away goal. Would make the second leg a realistic game.

Looks fine to me, though I am not sure using a FT the week after wc is ideal, it's probably ok if you don't need one 34 and are well set up beyond then

I've done it will be swapping willian for barkley next gw and then will have 15 for 34 so can carry one over then.

Ditching Kane was hard enough there was no way i was parting with Vardy at the same time i fancy him this week.. Also wanted nothing to do with Lukaku at Old Trafford 🙂

Hey guys, a bit short on value to get Rojo. I wouldn't need a Utd defender until DGW34 anyway so wondering if getting Jones will be a good decision? Want a Utd defender for DGW34.

    Cheers

Under no circumstances get Jones. He has been the ultimate troll this year and can't stay fit for more than 5 minutes.

Rojo is a good pick though, would try to squeeze him I if you can

Morning FFS. Settled on my WC team (doing Bolasie > Firmino DG34 to BB 14 doublers). GW32:

    Darlow
    Bellerin Koscielny Simpson
    Payet (c) Sanchez Coutinho Barkley
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

    Robles Bolasie Rojo Sakho

Bench Barkley or Bolasie this week?

so, I was looking at my 3rd Pool player in 35 yesterday, and was eyeing up Danny Boy. But we all know the risks with him so I was thinking that getting Phil C is better bet and going Defoe up front with Costa to follow

Coutinho, Costa, Defoe is probably better than Willian, Sturridge, Defoe

    does mean keeping Smalling

Who do we perceive to be the Arsenal penalty taker at the moment? Ozil may be the most obvious choice now without Giroud, Walcott and Ramsey.

    DDG
    Fuchs Ivan Bellerin
    Ozil Mahrez Alli Payet
    Kane Vardy Aguero

also, who to captain, Payet or Aguero?? (currently have a healthy lead in my ML)

    thanks 🙂

Okay think I've cracked it. It's pony but think I've got something that works:

    WC for GW33

    DDG - Migs
    Bellerin - Dann - Jags - Sakho - Simpson
    Ozil - Coutinho/Firminho - Barkley - Bolasie - Mahrez
    Aguero - Lukaku - Martial

GW 34 FT Dann > Clichy

GW 35 FT and hit Barkley & Martial > Someone & someone else who play 35

    1. Jafooli
      • 14 Years
      10 years, 11 days ago

      GW 33 - 5 x DGWs
      GW 34 - 13 x DGWs and BB
      GW 35 - 11 players for a hit

No Spurs, Sanchez, Vardy, Payet (or Antonio/Lanzini), KdB/Silva throughout is a bit of a worry.....

Tinkering around a bit..thoughts on this WC? I know it has no Aguero 😉

    Cech - Robles
    Otamendi - Dann - Cresswell - Janmaat - Sakho
    Sanchez - Ozil - Bolasie - Payet - Antonio
    Kane - Lukaku - Rashford

    6.4m available. Dann + Bolasie > Smalling + Firmino for GW34.

Would have 3.3m disaster fund after that.

Still would be scared of Aguero's 86% ownership but I'm genuinely concerned he doesn't play 33 or gets injured during the DGW from being overplayed.

    The Transfer Hub poll ( http://www.triggerlips.com )
has Payet at 38% with Aguero only 26%
while on here it is the opposite.

Very unusual divergence, what do we make of it?

If you think average user of your site is better fpl player than average user of this site, it's Payet (c) Aguero (vc).
      And vice versa.

Contemplating the AOA Chip this weekend but unsure on the following:

    A. Bench Alderweireld, play Siggy
    B. Bench Huth, play Siggy
    C. Don't play the chip.

Personally, I'm leaning towards A. Thoughts appreciated.
