The flutter of wildcards from last week turned into a full blown hurricane as many in the community look to take advantage of the double Gameweeks. Our community writers were on hand with some expert advice for wildcarders and those determined to use their chips. Meanwhile, our hot topic posters assessed both the key double-fixture targets and ones to avoid. In our Members section, a raft of tables have emerged to offer further guidance on the best players to consider for the hectic season run-in. There was also some shock news from our own moderators and contributors league this week in our run down of our latest community league standings.

The Community Articles

To help with some key wildcard questions the Fantasy Football Scout contributors and moderators put their new squads up for scrutiny in a series of Rate My Wildcard Team articles. My Phil Jagielka focused effort was first up, while Kevin De Bruyne figured prominently in Andy85wsm’s midweek article and today Spencer took over the discussion, with a look at budget goalkeeper options.

All three of our contributors are looking to field 15 double-fixture players in a bench-boosted Gameweek 34. According to Mr T’s chip analysis, though, it may not offer the spectacular returns many envisage.

There was plenty of further advice on key transfers from our community writers during the week. The Fantasy Football Frog investigated whether popular wildcard differentials in midfield can match the returns of the Fantasy Premier League’s highest scoring players. He also carried out the same analysis for forwards.

There was also more colour coded team ratings from The Sarjeant ahead of Gameweek 33 and Bolivian Seaman‘s regular look at the fans’ forums.

Among the best advice over the last month on tackling the double Gameweeks was Balders’ two articles on fixture and chip strategy. These helped him scoop a £20 Amazon voucher prize after being named by you as the best community writer in March.

April has already started well for the FPL veterans being tracked by Kavali. His latest article on their march up the rankings found that 18 of the 34 being tracked are now installed within the top 20,000 managers.

Finally, for those looking to play Indian Premier League Fantasy Cricket Pompey Fan was on hand to look over the rules and key strategies. Meanwhile, Team Cruel also dropped by to offer his thoughts on the best players to draft in.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With lacklustre Aston Villa and clean sheet-shy Crystal Palace visiting in Gameweek 34 Manchester United have emerged as an important team for wildcarders to focus on. According to Woodsy Owl, Anthony Martial looks a great acquisition due to a track record of punishing minnows at Old Trafford.

In defence, though, options are scarce, with Chris Smalling and David De Gea the only sure starters. YMA lamented the precarious minutes of Manchester United’s full backs, while Balders revealed the cost to FPL managers of centre back Daley Blind’s classification as a midfielder.

There were even doubts, from Alli is the new Mahrez, about the value of drafting in Dimitri Payet ahead of West Ham’s double Gameweek 34. However, many who responded to his discussion believe his free kick prowess is too good to ignore.

Further to Mr T’s community article on the value of chips we asked those who are bench boosting in Gameweek 34 to predict how many points those riding the pine will bring in.

Many of these key Gameweek 33 wildcard issues were also addressed in Beavissurvey of the community’s plans for tackling the double Gameweeks.

Finally, those who wildcarded early in Gameweek 32 offer hope of strong returns for those taking the plunge this week. These early birds featured prominently in our Rough with the Smooth look back at last weekend’s fixtures, while Balders’ research into their transfers highlights the top-performing players.

The Members Tables

For those eyeing up a Crystal Palace defender The Fantasy Football Frog has compiled this table of their most attacking centre backs and full backs. Ahead of Gameweek 34, Andreimkh has been taking a look at Manchester United’s most attacking assets.

Sinik has been seeing how Sergio Aguero stacks up against the other form strikers and bezzer provides good news for Romelu Lukaku suitors, in his investigation into teams that are conceding the most big chances.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

In addition, with blanks and double Gameweeks now here it is wise to sort by matches rather than Gameweeks to give a fairer gauge of form,

The Community Tournaments

Evs has finally overtaken Andy, by a slender margin of three points, in the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league after nibbling at his heels for most of 2016.

Jarvish’s Frequent Posters Cup quarter final draw sees Icon square up to Spectrum, Sepp Blattered take on Juggos, Ayew Serious faces Jonty (ie, me), while Spineless Weasel clashes with Feed Feo.

James Ollerenshaw has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season league, which now has eight teams in the overall top 1,000. In Red Lightning’s January to May league Nial Akata retains top spot.

Those that wildcarded early were amongst the high fliers in the first week of the inaugural Going out with a bang league. Shane Griffin and Rob Ziegler took joint first with their wildcards netting them a score of 96 in Gameweek 32. Set up by Kings of Lyon, this league has the dual aim of gathering research about the use of end of season chips as well as providing those with a low rank with something to play for.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Ruth_NZ hit the top score in Gameweek 32 with 91. There are now 85 teams left after 43 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 68.

Meanwhile, Jaffalicious dropped by with news of the semi-final clashes in the FFS UEFA Champions League tournament that gets underway this weekend.

Finally, Balders dropped by with some updates from his two leagues. In his Grand Playoffs competition Hooky has taken a 1-0 lead against Mr Flibbles in the best of 7 World Series. While, in his Wimbledon Doubles tournament the semi finals start this week with Depay Time & Berkan facing Spectrum & Newton1982 and Blue Lion & Gloria Kanchelskis squaring up to Still Unsure & Mr Alex.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    My team going into GW34:
    Hart, Robles

    Aguero, Lukaku, Martial.

    WC team!
This might sound STRANGE to everyone, but in our mini-league we don´t copy players so the team might be weird.

    Robles, Darlow
    Gabriel, Sakho, Lovren/Moreno, Morgan, Delaney
    KDB, Sanchez, Payet, Lanzini, Lennon
    Aguero, Martial, Defoe

0,8/1,0£ in bank. If I do NO TRANSFERS i´ll have the following:

    GW33) 3xDGW
    GW34) 12xDGW
    GW35) 9 playing
    GW36) No worries
    GW37) 8xDGW

    Any opinions please?

If you're not copying players, that still looks quite template (outside of Defoe and two Liverpool defenders) and still good amounts of DGW and GW35 players, which presumably having 2FTs should help with.

I don't mean template as a bad thing btw, rather that you've got most of the best options while the others in your league won't.

Nope, all are "free" in my mini-league.

As long as its in the same GW, if we have same players we let it go.

Nevertheless most have already used the WC

Any thoughts on this? My only concern is the midfield is too weak!

    Kun / Kane / Kaku

    Good evening all!

I'm sure at this stage everyone is busy trying to finalise their wildcards so lets get a hot topic up to ask those last minute questions.

We'll use this one for any quick questions you're looking for a quick answer on. Something like the below would be great

    A) Firmino + Payet
    B) KDB + Milner

    Sakho or Lovren?

Aguero definitely the safe option and Lingard is easily benchable after the double.

I've gone defence. Not sure if there's any merit to it but think Gabriel has more chance of keeping his place than Iwobi.

If it's Sanchez+Ozil though that's a different story - could be a nice little points earner

If Cech is fit he starts. They can still win the league - he will play.

Gabriel has started last 8 out of 9 or something like that - reckon he's fairly nailed

      4. Onwards
        • 16 Years

I'm not so sure about Cech. Wenger's said he's reluctant to change things now that they're working and if Cech was fit enough to be on the bench last week, why wasn't he starting?

By the same "if it ain't broke don't fix it" logic, Gabriel should be pretty nailed for the next few weeks at least. 90% for now, dropping as it becomes clear they can't win anything so Mert gets a game to keep him happy.

GW34: Bench Boost or Triple Captain? Sanchez looks like such a standout pick next week for TC. I'm struggling to see TC options for GW37

Problem with GW34 is it's better for bench boost and for triple captain.

Think bench boost probably has a higher ceiling so I'll use it in 34.

37 doesn't look fantastic now (Payet probably best) but by then we might have Sturridge/Rooney to choose from etc - who knows what will happen.

Firmino or Coutinho thoughts on minutes?

Delaney or LIV mid? (Will leave me with 10 in gw35 and latter just no attacking threat).

Looks like Coutinho has more assured minutes, I'm still tempted by Firmino more though.

        Liverpool midfielder over Delaney.

Tricky, I'd go Firmino because of fixtures but form is all KDB...

I can get both Firmino and Coutinho... If KDB starts firing i can jump on him and upgrade someone else.

Ah, that makes more sense. Probably still the Liverpool option but it's a tighter call now.

I've never been concerned about doubling up issues - owning Coutinho doesn't affect Firmino's points so I'd happily own both (I'll have Firmino and Milner as I'm a cheapskate) 🙂

Haha, well i can ship KDB to Firmino to double up. Means no KDB, but his ownership is so low it wont make a huge impact anyways.

I think they'll both start this week. Be interesting to see what happens in Dortmund

If it makes it any easier I'm keeping Delaney for 34 and shipping Bolasie. Delaney will go in 35.

If that screws your transfer plans I'd probably just go Pool defender now

Well i kind of wanted to ship either him or Bolasie. If i get liv defender means i cant upgrade Bolasie. Thats the issue.

I've gone for Lennon - more fixtures and Bolasie has done nothing for a long time.

I had this same dilemma and went Bolasie.

Disclaimer though - I'm swapping to Milner in GW34 anyway so if you have to keep for 34 Lennon might be better

I know you have A Andy so guess your answer will be A but just cant decide especially with Martial GW34. Been thinking about this last few days. Still no closer to it

      A) Bolasie / Mitrovic
      B) Lennon / Martial

I've said it a few times though. I'd actually prefer Martial over Mitrovic but he doesn't fit in with my plans - I can't cover the blank in GW35.

I prefer B in your scenario, taking nothing else into account

      A. Payet

Can't believe I'm getting rid of Payet for a double but it looks the most logical move to me.

Coutinho v Firmino is a lottery, at least Hendo's injury makes it more probable both start both games.

      Evening Andy!

I'm settled on my team, with 5.0m for the last defender spot. I'm on Rojo (obviously rotation risk), he's the only United defender I can afford without tearing apart my team. Is it worth the risk or should I double up on Liverpool with Lovren in that spot?

How will Rojo affect you in GW35? If you need a hit or to play with 10 then definitely not him for me.

If you're feeling like a risk go for him. Otherwise play safe with Lovren - might cause you less headaches 🙂

Thanks Andy, I'll have 10 for GW35, so I'll use a free to get 11 out. I wouldn't play him vs. Spurs, so keep and reassess based on minutes?

I had Rojo in my team originally but just couldn't take the risk so went Smalling. It is a risk but if you're willing to take it go for it, especially if you can get 11 out in 35.

Good luck either way - let me know what you decide 🙂

Got £6.5m to spend if I sold Mahrez for a DGW player. Anyone take your fancy at that price?

You just know Manutd will concede in their DGW after all this hype with Smalling.. Wish he had some bap potential or even some goal threat but he has neither. Got just one bap this year and not even a semblance of attacking returns either. I want him real bad but i'm just gonna be lugging him about GW 33, GW 35 and GW 36 @ 6.5 million just hoping he gets a max of 12 points in GW 34!

Manchester United vs Palace just screams banana skin to me, especially if Palace lose to Norwich, which I think they will.

Exactly.. Avl is a gimme but the Palace game looks tricky. Smalling could be in for 7-8 points which is what a Leicester Defender like Fuchs gets just for showing up most weeks

i'd probably still go for him if it was not for the fact that us WCers can get a max of 5 GW 35 blankers in order to field a full 11 that week. Want to make full use of GW 33 so i've got Bolasie, Jagielka, Lukaku(and Robles) already and i want Payet no matter what. becomes a shout out between Martial and Smalling and i prefer Martial over the other option ie Mitrovic

Hard to say, as depends how he looks with the rest of your squad and the sacrifices made. I've decided to go without i think, due to his price, 2 away games and just prefer Arsenal/Liverpool mids

        Robles - Darlow

        Gabriel - Bellerin - Fuchs - Sakho - Delaney

        Sanchez - Coutinho - Firmino - Lennon - Payet

        Aguero - Lukaku - Mitrovic

Yeah, been struggling to get him in. Trying to get him in for Fuchs, but would require a midfield downgrade, even if I ditch Bellerin for Monreal.

Bellering to Smalling straight swap works but I don't fancy that...

what are the pros and cons of rocking both firmino and coutinho?

and if you were going to get rid of one, which one would go, and who would you replace with at about equal value?

If you WC now you basically NEED 3 Liverpool in order to have 11 DGWers GW 37. i dont want 2 Pool defenders so it has to be Cout+Firm

        Thoughts on my wildcard team?

        Robles, Darlow
        Sakho, Smalling, Bellerin, Gabriel, Delaney
        Coutinho, KDB, Sanchez, Barkley, Bolassie
        Martial, Aguero, Lukaku
        (0.5m)

        I've got 8 players with a fixture in 35.

        Anything I should change?
