We call upon a trio of overlooked double Gameweek options ahead of this morning’s deadline. West Ham and Man United’s lone strikers arrive on our radar and are joined by Liverpool’s summer signing from City as we look to navigate Jurgen Klopp’s rotation plans for the run-in.

Andy Carroll

In the wake of Andy Carroll’s (6.3) captivating hat-trick against Arsenal, it’s impossible to ignore the frontman’s allure ahead of West Ham United’s double Gameweek (lei & WAT). Owing to his excellent form (four goals and one assist in four across all competitions) and the fact that Diafra Sakho is sidelined with a knock, Carroll furnishes us with a secure route into an offense that’s firing on all cylinders, having accrued 10 goals in their last quartet of league clashes.

Carroll posted some truly exceptional underlying statistics last time out, ranking top among forwards for penalty-box touches (13), attempts (10), shots inside the box (nine) and shots on target (five). In terms of his output among counterparts who’ve clocked at least 1000 minutes this term, the former Newcastle United star ranks fifth for shot frequency (one every 25.8 minutes) and fourth for goal frequency (151 minutes), underlining his latent potential as a budget third forward.

Next on the Irons’ agenda is a trip to Leicester City, who recorded seven clean sheets in their last eight home encounters. That being said, the Foxes have conceded 10 more headed attempts (84) than any side, which plays into the hands of a marksman that – despite chalking up just 1058 minutes – charts joint-top among forwards for headed goals (five) and fifth for headed attempts (21). As for Watford, no side surrendered more big chances (13) than the Hornets in their last four outings.

Marcus Rashford

Priced at 4.5, Marcus Rashford – who’s scored three goals in six starts – unsurprisingly emerged as a prime enabler for wildcarders and a budget route into Manchester United’s attack for their mouth-watering double Gameweek (AVL & CRY). The lingering caveat has always been whether Wayne Rooney’s return to action would significantly curtail his playing time, yet Louis van Gaal recently intimated that the skipper could be afforded minutes off the bench against Aston Villa, which suggests Rashford will retain his starting berth.

Focusing on the academy product’s stats, he’s scored at a conversion rate of 43% since being promoted to the first team, illustrating his clinical finishing – indeed, that trait was thrown into sharp relief when he opened the scoring against West Ham in midweek with a sumptuous curling effort. Across his previous four starts, Rashford tallied as many shots inside the box (five) as Anthony Martial, bolstering his appeal as a cheaper alternative.

Ultimately, Villa’s ineptitude serves as the best motivation to source attacking coverage for the Red Devils: in their last six fixtures, the West Midlanders conceded 16 goals, the third-most shots inside the box (55) and three more big chances (18) than any other outfit. Following that match-up, Man United welcome a Crystal Palace unit that’s managed just two clean sheets on the road, which bodes well for the hosts’ offensive prospects.

James Milner

In a Gameweek when squad rotation will doubtless undermine our meticulously crafted plans, James Milner (6.5) could prove a canny alternative. By virtue of Liverpool’s progress in the Europa League and the breadth of form attacking players at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho are perhaps less assured two starts during their double (bou & EVE). Conversely, Jordan Henderson (injury) and Emre Can (one-match ban and ankle injury worry) are unlikely to feature, ensuring that Milner could retain his spot in the centre of the park.

Milner has been the Reds’ most effective facilitator in recent weeks, bagging five assists in his previous trio of starts in all competitions. With regards to his league form, the ex-Manchester City recruit notched three goals and five assists in his last eight starts. Taking the season as a whole, he’s registered 10 more key passes (50) and 36 more successful crosses (46) than any of his midfield team-mates, demonstrating his strong assist potential.

Liverpool’s Sunday fixture finds them squaring up to a Bournemouth side that charted top for goals conceded (10) in their last four matches. Furthermore, only two teams have shipped more goals on home turf than the Cherries (27). The Merseyside derby also promises to be an open affair, considering that Liverpool recorded 10 goals in their previous four home ties and the Toffees’ defence is struggling for consistency.

Are you wildcarding/triple captaining/bench boosting/praying single gameweekers do well?

How many hits are you taking? Are hits worth it for a double gameweek player?

Yeah. and Wenger's comments suggest Mert might be back in the side this weekend. I reckon Gabriel only plays 1 game..

I reckon Iwobi is nailed on atm and has 3 plum fixtures and is really attacking. I also fancy Arsenal to score 3+ goals both DGW games (nothing else to play for), and we might concede as well...

These transfers should also open up the option for Luk > Kane(c) next week. 🙂

No hits, only Jagielka -> PvA. Playing the bench boost with Mahrez, PvA and Sakho on the bench, but afraid that Gabriel and Coutinho or Lukaku will be auto-subbed and give me only my Robles points as the real "boost". Best of luck to all of you!

Aguero probably, but tempted by Martial. WC in GW32 meant that Sanchez not in my team, which is a worry.

BB with Simpson, Alli and Mahrez as my only SGW players.

Took one hit to do Lukaku to Carroll based on form, fixtures and injury doubt. Was planning a hit in GW35 any way to enable getting Kane back so just took the hit a week early.

Has to be Sanchez (c) for me. Form, fixture and certainty of starts...last one being key.

      Bench boosting this week.

Already taken 1 hit . Currently mulling over Lukaku - Mitrovic. All depends on whether I think Martinez is trolling us all or not. What makes this move slightly less risky is that I need to take a hit anyway for GWK 35. This means GWK 35 I can still get Kane (c) in for no hit then. Basically bringing the hit forward a week.

Yep. Hits in DGWKs can pay off. Over gwk 34 and 35 due to the Jags injury I have to do a -8 anyway. It's just stretching it over this week.

I like Mitrovic this week, he's scored v Man City before plus looks guaranteed to start. Lukaku has 1 game to his 3. And the move means I have enough to get Kane (c) in gwk 35...that's key to the whole plan. Still deciding though and may just leave...give me more options next week after all. Not happy with 1 game Lukaku tho - esp against Liverpool.

For me its because I foolishly went Gabriel, Bellerin and Sanchez on my wildcard so couldn't get him in. Also with Wilshire, Rosicky etc coming back it opens up the possibility of rotation for one of the games.

I agree though Iwobi is a great option for his price.

Lanzini does have a gwk 35 blank....but then a great DGWK 37...and west ham are currently looking the team to go for in that week.

Well I evaded Jags for Delaney and Lennon for keeping Mahrez so right now I have Bolasie, Gabriel, Darmian and Sakho who I think I could move on - no Eve dilemma.

Looking at doing Bolasie -> Iwobi, Darmian -> Smalling and probably getting a Leicester defender for Iwobi.

I think getting 11 playing players next week will pay off given how many rotation risks are there, and hits will be catastrophic.

Bench boosting but have kept triple Spurs and triple Leicester so already have 12 for next week. It's all about steady progress and thinking ahead for me.

My exciting transfer was Henn to Robles as have got Dann and don't fancy double Palace next week.

Am fully expecting every single DGW player to be a rotation risk and most likely disappoint other than Arsenal. Sorry. Am a dullard 🙂

      Using bench boost.

      Transfers:
      Lennon -> Lanzini
Delaney -> TFM (I can't see Delaney scoring a lot this DGW, and it's fun with one punt)
Lukaku -> Pelle (was going to do this for GW35 anyways. Pelle is in form, Lukaku is not and is probably also playing only one match)
      Total: -8

Have a feeling Delaney and Lukaku will punish me, but you have to live a little 🙂

Can you not use your Wildcard and Triple Captain in the same week? Or am I doing this wrong? Since when has the wildcard been considered a chip? I have heard lots of people on here saying they would be using their wild card this week plus the bench boost to get 15 DGW players out but now it wont allow me to use my chips because my Wildcard is active

Am I the only one captaining Bellerin? Over the last 4 game-weeks he has scored 9-12-14-1, which is more than Sanchez (6-6-14-7) or Iwobi (0-8-8-10).

Bench Boost. Bench may well score less than the 24 points it scored in GW32, but I played my wildcard to set up my squad for a Bench Boost this week, and I'm sticking with it.

No hits - in fact, I'm carrying over one of my transfers to next week, since I expect it to be more valuable for setting up my GW35 and DGW37 squads.

The transfer I did make was to replace Mahrez with Iwobi. Considered using the other transfer to replace Lukaku, but I didn't think any of the other forwards were quite worth it.

Captain is Sanchez. Bench boosting here. All DGW players except for Mahrez. Wildcarded last week. Took an 8 point hit. Ditched Gabriel, Lukaku and Lennon for Mangala, Sturridge and Iwobi. Unsure starters versus more sure starters. Believe hits will be worth it with bench boost in effect. Also, made sure to have 11 starters for GW 35 already in place with an eye to GW 37 DGW.

Well Villa Ronka's done Jagielka to Dawson it seems.

Honestly if you're BBing, definitely shift Jags and maybe shift Bolasie for a hit, but don't go hit crazy. Though your in a bit of a tight situation with shifting Bolasie as you have Lanzini, can't get Iwobi due to 3 Ars and can't get Milner due to 3 Liv. Get Nasri maybe?

If I get Nasri, I'd have to buy Simpson. Think that ship has sailed to be honest. Only realistic option seems to be Townsend, but then again that would mean a double up on the Newcastle attack

I can see what you're looking at with Kirchoff. Might come off. Or on the flip side, I could just get Reid in for Jagielka and end up keeping Bolasie.

              • 12 Years
              9 years, 8 months ago

Yep, Kirchoff ticks a lot of nice boxes. Good gw34 fixture, plays in gw35, has a a double in 37, cheap and he's a baps magnet if Sunderland get in amongst the cleanies. Reid's certainly a good option too though if you don't think Bolasie out for a hit is worth it.

Honestly, I don't know but think he should. Personally I'm taking the risk of holding onto him on my BB. For you though, Iwobi over Bolasie should pay that move off by itself. It then comes down to Fosu vs Gabriel for making a net gain on it.

    Really gone off Mitrovic.

Is it worth -4 to take him out or nah? £1.7m ITB. Aguero/Martial my other two.

    Re. Gabriel vs Mert

Reporter: You said you have a problem in the air last week, and Adebayor offering a similar threat what have you been working on this week?
    Wenger: heading the ball!
Reporter: is it time for Pers Mertesacker to come back maybe?
Wenger: I haven't decided yet, we have 48 hours, we'll see

If Gabriel had one bad game, would Wenger want to drop him? it wouldn't do Gabriel's confidence any good especially if Wenger views him as a long term CB at Arsenal. Also, from the comments above, it seems Wenger is looking to fix the aerial problems rather than remove the problem (Gabriel).
