A breathless Gameweek continues apace with a quartet of mid-afternoon duels. Manchester United’s home encounter against Aston Villa holds particular interest as Fantasy managers attempt to exploit the visitors’ pitiable form.

Across their previous four outings, the Red Devils mustered just two goals while charting bottom for attempts (27), bottom for shots inside the box (14) and second-bottom for shots on target (eight), illustrating the impotence of their attack. Investors in Man United’s rearguard will draw encouragement from the fact that Louis van Gaal’s troops rank top for home clean sheets (10) and are facing a Villains outfit that places second-bottom for away goals (11).

An out-of-form Everton unit welcome Southampton to Goodison Park. The Toffees ranked third-bottom for attempts (36) over their last four matches, scoring a solitary goal at the second-worst shot-conversion rate (2.8%). Saints will certainly fancy their chances of breaching Everton’s back line, given that Roberto Martinez’s troops place second for goals conceded (28) and bottom for clean sheets (two) in home clashes.

Newcastle strive for their first win in eight outings when Swansea City roll up at St James’ Park. The Magpies rank third for shot-conversion rate (12.1%) in home ties, yet only West Bromwich Albion have amassed fewer attempts (176 compared to 182) on their own turf. As for the Swans, they place joint-bottom for clean sheets in away match-ups (one), which bodes well for Newcastle’s attacking potential.

West Brom and Watford lock horns at The Hawthorns. The Baggies are in desperate need of an attacking spark, given that they chalked up two goals, the second-fewest attempts (35) and third-fewest shots inside the box (19) across their last four fixtures. With just two goals in six outings, the Hornets are also flattering to deceive in the final third, pointing towards an attritional affair in the West Midlands.

Re post guys . I think this sums up what a lot are thinking. It got a bad reception last time I posted it.

THIS GAME IS FLAWED - IT BECOME MORE A GAME OF LUCK

Right time for a rant. Just got in today and have seen line ups , statements at press conferences etc. All of us who have tried to understand and play this game in a logical manner have been well and truly shafted. Look at most teams for DGW and they will include some of Firmino , Sakho , Coutinho , Milner, Martial ........the list goes on. By including a BB chip and TC chip we are focusing on a squad of 15 players and therefore our funds are spread more thinly. Necessarily gambles are taken. However with rotation the BB chip is virtually rendered redundant. Those who don't understand the game fully have blown it early and now the differential gained from using it on a DGW is much diminished.
Yes I have some players who have been benched due to rotation but not as many as most so this is not a personal rant but more of a collective one .
Next year I think certainly the BB chip needs to be reconsidered. I can see a role for the TC chip certainly as this doesn't involve us dismantling teams primarily based round 11 players playing a GW.

Look, we're all in the same boat. This stuff happens this time of the season. I don't think it's done and dusted yet and of course it is frustrating...but berating other players as wrong because they took a different strategy...is like throwing your toys out of the pram.

It got a bad reception because I don't think too many of us share your sense of entitlement. If the game was all about predictability, it would be poorer for it. Yes, many of us are annoyed that our careful planning might be going to waste, but if we finish below people who don't play the game as seriously, or who don't pay as much attention, that says more about our way of playing than anything else. The chips and the DGWs never guaranteed success, but we played the odds. It's not working, 30 minutes into six days of games...

It is also a nature of this sport. I am American, and as such, I've played most of fantasy sports with USA based games such as baseball, American football, basketball and hockey. All of those sports, especially baseball, hoops and American football are much more conducive to fantasy games due to greater scoring. This sport is the toughest due to sheer infrequency of goals. That could then be interpreted as more random and unpredictable. It places a greater emphasis on defense, and with limited trades, makes it tricky. All in all, fantasy baseball, American football, hoops and ice hockey, I must say, are more geared towards a better fantasy experience, IMO.

I don't like the chips, but applying logic to something like football is always dodgy. We can use stats etc. and get ideas of players, but more and more teams are including all the squad instead of a defined starting XI, and you can never predict when someone is going to have a good game.

I don't agree others don't understand the game fully and therefore have blown the bench boost etc. Some aren't that fussed, others realise that football is full of surprises and don't take FPL as super seriously.

I got shafted too. The risks of trying to get 15 dgwers out for instance were always obvious. No complaints from me you pay your money you take your chances. Still like the chips think they add to game. This game is a mixtures of skill and luck always has been.
