Our attentions turn to the first ten fixtures of Gameweek 34 this lunchtime as we look for lessons learned. Tottenham’s title charge makes a convincing case for re-investment, a change of position has sparked Alexis Sanchez’ improvement, Louis van Gaal becomes the latest manager to tinker with his teamsheet, whilst Daniel Sturridge continues to avoid Jurgen Klopp’s domestic rotation.

Tottenham’s momentum looks difficult to ignore…
Last night’s 4-0 win over Stoke may well force Fantasy managers into reassessing their decision to part company with Spurs’ main men. Many reluctantly wildcarded out the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli due to their lack of a double Gameweek but the duo’s braces are likely to spark a rush to reacquire the pair ahead of their Gameweek 35 match against West Brom. With league leaders Leicester struggling for a cutting edge and devoid of Jamie Vardy for Swansea’s weekend visit, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have made an emphatic case for their return to our squads as they look to overhaul the Foxes.

A role on the right suits Sanchez…
Whilst Mesut Ozil and the Arsenal defence disappointed their Fantasy owners in the 1-1 home encounter against Palace, the Chilean found the net for the third successive league outing. Since shifting flanks to accommodate Alex Iwobi on the Gunners’ left in Gameweek 31, Sanchez has served up three goals, two assists and five bonus points in four appearances. Bearing in mind he mustered just one goal and two assists in his previous 12 on the left, a switch of position looks to have made a significant difference to his Fantasy output.

Sunderland are finding their form…
A 3-0 win over Norwich at Carrow Road handed the Black Cats’ survival bid a major boost on Saturday. Big Sam’s side are now just a single point behind the Canaries with a match in hand. A double Gameweek 37 on their agenda means they look set to jostle for Fantasy managers’ attentions over the run-in. Encouragingly for Allardyce, his side have now delivered two clean sheets in three, boosting our faith in Patrick van Aanholt and co, whilst Jermain Defoe’s thirteenth strike of the season could earn him a place in our three-man frontlines at a price of just 5.1.

Van Gaal is the latest to rotate…
With one eye on the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Everton, Louis van Gaal rang the changes for United’s home clash with Villa. Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard both dropped to the bench as the Dutchman opted for the fit-again Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay alongside Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford in the 1-0 win. Having started 18 of United’s previous 19 league matches, Martial owners will be optimistic of a return against Palace tomorrow night but it’s clear that Van Gaal will continue to chop and change in a bid to end the season with some silverware. Should the Red Devils progress to the final, then, their line-ups could again be in question for double Gameweek 37.

Townsend could be the Magpies’ saviour…
Whilst Aleksandar Mitrovic dropped to the bench and Georginio Wijnaldum served up yet another blank, the former Spurs wide man continues to impress for Rafa Benitez. Townsend’s goal and assist at home to Swansea took his tally to two goals and a pair of assists in the last three matches ahead of this evening’s vital home clash with City. Whilst a weekend trip to Anfield diminishes his appeal, the Magpies’ upcoming encounters with Palace and Villa in Gameweeks 36 and 37 should afford Townsend the chance to build momentum as the Tyneside team attempt to stave off relegation.

King has found his top-flight feet…
Whilst a late consolation at home to Liverpool wasn’t enough to prevent Bournemouth slipping to defeat, Joshua King’s end of season form shows no sign of slowing. Impressively, the Cherries’ out of position prospect has now scored in four of the last six Gameweeks and also chipped in with an assist and four bonus points over that period. Should he maintain his classification as a midfielder in FPL and continue as a regular under Eddie Howe, King’s displays marks him out as one to watch for next year.

Sturridge may be immune to Klopp’s domestic rotation…
At a time when Liverpool’s team sheets are near impossible to predict as Jurgen Klopp rotates with the Europa League in mind, it’s somewhat ironic that Daniel Sturridge has been a domestic mainstay. Finally free from injury, the Reds forward has now started each of the last four league matches and racked up three goals and a pair of assists over that period. Given that the likes of Philippe Coutinho has warmed the bench for the last two outings, Sturridge is making a late claim as a viable route into Liverpool’s attack ahead of a Gameweek 35 home clash with Newcastle and double Gameweek 37.

The Hammers are far from a one-man team…
A 2-2 draw at Leicester continued the fine attacking form that’s seen West Ham score at least twice in each of their last five league matches. Whilst Andy Carroll emerged from the bench to take his tally to five goals in four, Dimitri Payet has gone off the boil by comparison. Since bagging a goal and assist in the Gameweek 29 win at Everton, the Frenchman has played a part in just two of the Hammers’ last nine goals, with a goal and assist to show for his endeavours. Although Slaven Bilic’s side continue to look a real threat in the final third, they seem far less reliant on their playmaker’s output in recent matches.

Loftus Cheek is on the radar…
The Chelsea youngster was handed a third successive start in a central support role for last week’s home loss to City. Although he failed to get amongst the points, Loftus-Cheek’s underlying numbers catch the eye – he’s mirrored Kevin de Bruyne for both attempts (seven) and efforts in the box (five) during that period. Bearing in mind he has a Gameweek 35 fixture (away to Bournemouth) and double Gameweek 37 to follow, he may prove more than just a budget enabler at a price of 4.6.

OK cast your eyes over this if you would be so kind.

1FT and 9 starters. Taking a hit to get Kane back and 11 out.

    Dann>Pva then Lukaku>Kane

    or

    Dann>4.3 Sunderland then Martial>Kane

    ??

Got this feeling I need Lukaku more than Martial going forwards?

Oh will (c) Kane too so hopefully that'll cover the hit nicely! Don't trust Aguero's minutes this week.

Wait and see how Lukaku fares against Liverpool. Wasn't he carrying a knock?

Martinez needs to play his best team to hang onto his job, so Martial would be the one to go.

PVA has attacking bonus, but not worth it if LVG is going to dick around with Rooney-Rashford-Depay-Martial-Mata combo.

Yeah will wait until we are all done this week.

I agree re Martial. I think Smalling and Lingard, my 5th mid, is fine for DGW37.

Also agree re PvA but the CB forget his name seems nailed and if it facilitates Lukaku then c'est la vie.

At least the getting Vardy back option is gone to simplify things!

The second one, definitely. You'll want Lukaku for GW36 until the end.

      Get Kirchoff and Kane.

Trying to decide what my target and strategy is. Slipped from 3.8k to 6.5k after the Spurs game. Lead my football team mini league by 80pts.

Main rival has Kane. Top 1000 in FPL have 50% ownership of Kane, Toby, Alli, plus Mahrez/Payet of course. Would you:

    A. Get Kane and Alli and shadow the ML rival's team

    B. Go differentials instead of template to have a chance of breaking top 1k ?

    1. Sebastes
      • 10 Years

      B. Imho. Kane won't continue to deliver goals at the same rate as lately (well he shouldn't, atleast).

80 points should be safe, but it comes down what your target is. You could still climb a lot in five weeks, even with Kane.

Sturridge, Carroll and Kane looks a really interesting attack. But it's a maverick move with regards to rotation.

Judging by his twitter record Bony is starting, but could easily be alongside Aguero. His record against Newcastle is great, 10 goals in 9 games.

Team at the moment is below. I have 12 players for 35 but need to use my FT as I will probably WC in 36. Have 0.9 itb so would you go for

    A) Payet -> Mane
    B) Rashford -> Defoe
    C) Any other decent 1 week punt?

    Forster (Hennessey)
    Toby, Fuchs, Huth, Bellerin (Sakho)

Not sure Rashford can be relied upon to lead the line for an entire season - he's currently converting a lot of the shots he's getting.

If that's the team we're lining up with next season I hope we buy 🙂

No way, more will be bought. I heard Zlatan is keen on an EPL move, but is demanding 300k p/w.

I'd have Lingard over Mata to compensate some pace and energy

I would reluctantly agree with this we are much to slow with Rooney and Mata in attack that right hand side is somewhere real quality along with pace must be added in the summer for sure

Yeah 100%, lack of pace when Mata and Rooney play. Mata's a diminutive figure and been too quiet this season.

I love Mata but 5 goals and 5 assists this season is a pitiful return for a player with his ability

Yeah it's a shame, he had that spell early this season in 2015 where he looked back to his best. Great performances v Southampton and Wolfsburg I remember.

I do. I thought he played very well against Villa, and was in good form before the injury. He's the best passer in the England team imo. So long as Dier, Alli and Kane plays, he can come 🙂

Our season seemed to fall apart away at PSV when Shaw got injured...

Hoping he comes back strong and we challenge again next year. Would be very happy with an FA cup win though, top four or not.

Okay, want/need to make some changes, wondered if you guys could give me some advice.

I'm looking to transfer Jagielka to a different defender, looking at maybe Clyne for gw35 and another DGW; I have 5.3 to play with and my other defenders are Rojo, Dawson, Fuchs, Gabriel, any other better looking options I'm overlooking?

Secondly I'm unsure whether to swap out Mahrez for Alli for a -4 as Spurs look on the ascendancy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    A) Coleman+Lanzini+Martial to Ivanovic+Alli+Defoe - 8
    B) Smalling+Lanzini+Martial to Kirchoff+Alli+Kane - 8
    C) Something including only -4 but then only playing with 10 GW35

Just do a -4 (as long as you'll have three decent defenders for 36

I'm doing Cout > Alli and Martial > Defoe for a hit. Liverpool players are just too unreliable and I haven't had Alli all season. Time that changed.

He's in-form, Sunderland are fighting for their lives, he's nailed on, he's cheap and he has a DGW in GW37.

He third top scorer in the Prem in 2016 behind Aguero and Kane, he is nailed, the team is fighting for survival and he is their only real attacking outlet.

But its probably mainly because he plays in 35 and doubles in 37.

Best striker, avg position, experience, "smartness"
Sunderland fighting (well) for their PL survival

      No other competition distractions

    Darlow/Robles
    Delaney/Kosc/Bellerin/Fosu/Sakho
    Lanzini/De Bruyne/Sanchez/Coutinho/Milner
    Kun/Kane/Martial

    0.4 ITB

    Best moves here?

    A. Coutinho to Alli & Martial to Defoe for -4?
    B. Coutinho to Alli and Delaney to Rose?
    C. Get a decent GK. Hart? + one of the moves above

    Would welcome any other ideas/suggestions.

Is it too optimistic to think that Mangala starts today? He and Otamendi played really good recently and some fans agree that they should continue to start. Vinnie coming from the bench in second half to get some minutes. What do you think guys?
