    Aguero*

So for the very small sample it seems like a win for the GW33 wildcard.

I have to say it's been a success for me, although there's so many factors to consider about what I'd have done differently if I'd have not been intending on wildcarding.

GW33 team lost out to my GW32 team by about 10-15 points, but there's no way I would have kept Vardy anyway, without the wildcard.

Yes keeping Alli and Kane would have been the better bet but overall my GW34 team has done really well. It's shot me up the rankings 100k places with 3 to go tonight, and more importantly it's taken me from a 10~ point lead in the only money ML I have a chance at to a 50+ point lead with more players to go and TC in tact.

Very happy as things stand. Going to treat myself to a -4 or -8 and get Kane / Defoe and maybe Alli/Rose in.

Argument is its as successful for those that kept Kane, Alli, Aguero, Arsenal assets and bought in a few Liverpool players.

Well yeah of course, but each case is different.

I didn't have Ozil or Sanchez in GW32 (and wasn't doing too badly in terms of green arrows). No Arsenal defenders. Had Aguero, Kane and Alli of course.

But my only other DGW players were Hennessey, Silva and Payet. None of which did that well in GW34. Would have taken so many hits to get to where I got to.

Remember that FFS always has an availability bias with who logs on, that said it looks good judging by HoF player stats too. That's not to take away from your mini league gains, well done if you're up and can afford the hits 🙂

For sure - and as above each case is different.

Anyone who was well set up for GW34 already I wouldn't blame for going the WC36 route, I'd have done the same.

But for me personally things have gone well 🙂

    2. pompeyfan
      • 16 Years
      9 years, 11 months ago

for me not so much. I would've had about 9 dgw'ers without wildcarding as had been not planning to use it yet. But then Silva was ruled out on the Friday before gw33 and I just pushed the button. Losing Vardy's points and bringing in the likes of Martial & Coutinho are regrettable. Oh well, not a disaster though but I already had Sanchez and was always going to TC him.

Didn't expect Kane to rise last night so only brought in Alli, which now means I'm 0.1m short of my planned moves of Bolasie, KdB & Martial to Alli, Fabregas & Kane (-8).

Instead if Fabregas I'm now considering Mane, or maybe even Mahrez.. Anyone else thinking of either of these?

That is bloody annoying! Had exact money for Martial+Mitrovic to Kane+Defoe, now I'm 0.1m off. Looking like a 8 pointer!

I'd probably still ship Fabregas ahead of the other 2. Can't believe I'm saying this but Mane is the one I'd want from those 3.

    Bellerin, Gabriel Simpson, Toby
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Alli, Mahrez,
    Kun(c), Kane

    Robles, Clichy*, Payet, Carroll

    1. do I need a -4 to get abbetter 1st sub in than clichy if people are rested?
    2. KUN v leaky Stoke at home or Kane due to fear of rest for KUN?

Does Clichy+Nasri+Dann> Ivanovic + Alli + PVA look good for -8?

Will wait for pressers tomorrow, but team would be:

    _________Darlow_________
    Ivanovic_Bellerin_PVA_Sakho
    Alli_Coutinho_Sanchez_Iwobi
    Aguero(c)_________Sturridge

    Bench: Robles*, Payet*, Martial*, Smalling*

Not sure I would take a double hit in the defence. And maybe wait and see if Nasri is back first?

    @Balders

You have taken so unbelievable stick this week, I hope most of it has been in good humour. But please continue writing your fantastic articles. As I said earlier, the DGW was hampered by circumstances unbeknown at the time the article was written, and also peoples selections (no Kane) were questionable. The article was still brilliant and very helpful for forward planning. And at the end of the day most of us have done pretty well, and should be reasonably well setup for the rest of the way if planned correctly.

I do however think that you should change your name to 'Gold Standard Balders', even just until the end of this week 😉

      Mark should hire him.

He's smart enough to do something of his own though.

Best thing to happen to FFs since F0rc@ 1nter. (Can't believe you can't say that)

Oh nothing bad really, just lots of comments about Gold Standard Liverpool, and people complaining about triple Merseyside. Including some comments from myself, which I thought were funny, but probably are a bit tiresome when lots of people are making them- and I therefore apologise!

Bottom line is his articles are top rate, and the DGW article was still probably the best members article of the season for me.

Cheers Larry, I think Gold Standard could become a running thing here. Do you reckon I could release a fragrance called Gold Standard by Balders? 😛

Not worthing digging them up but "You made me sell Kane for Lukaku", "I sold Simpson for Fosu Mensah because of your wildcard plan", rah rah rah. Whatever, I'm just redirecting them to a) my team where I kept Kane and b) to the bottom of my article where it says this:

“For all this planning, both scenarios above are “best case” and don’t legislate for the actual appeal of the players, their fixtures, rotation worries or the fact red cards and injuries will probably reign you in from getting the idealistic double Gameweek teams."

People made their own decisions, and you don't have to take any "blame" of anyone chose poorly.

I, for one (like roman numerals, no but seriously) found your article(s) incredibly helpful, and theoretically only needed one hit to field 11 dgw'ers in gw37. Because of injuries/rotation I may need more, but that's not your fault, of course!

Again, thank you so much for your sublime effort in helping us plan for the dgws.

I was pretty chuffed with it as an article, took a lot of the initial leg work out of creating 'the plan'.

There's no copy/paste formula for climbing the ranks and so if you just blindly follow it you will end up disappointed.

Thankfully no-one has come back to me yet for all the advice I gave last week encouraging people to get Fosu-Mensah.

At least I didn't make a mistake like that in my own team, and the community scout picks. Oh no, wait a minute... 😀

I'm normally against hits, but with a max of 9 starters (and that's unlikely) this week, does the below 8 pointer seem sensible?

Bolasie, Lukaku & Martial -> Alli, Kane & Pelle (-8)

    Darlow
    Bellerin, Gabriel, Sakho, Simpson
    Sanchez, Cout, KDB
    Aguero

Robles, Fosu, Bolasie, Lanzini, Lukaku, Martial
    Bank 2.7m, 1FT

    1FT, 0.3 ITB

    Robles / Darlow

    Monreal / Sakho / Gabriel / Delaney / Simpson

    Sanchez / Coutinho / Payet / Mahrez / Townsend

    Aguero / Lukaku / Martial

    What transfer to make!?

    A) Forster, Mane, Pelle/Defoe -8
    B) Forster, King, Kane -8
    C) Lloris, Mane, Kane, Defoe -12
    D) Anything else

    (DDG, Robles)
    Gabriel, Bellerin, Sakho, Simpson (Smalling)
    Alexis, Alli, Coutinho, Firmino (Payet)
    Kun, Mitrovic (Martial)

In top 4k so every point is crucial
