Next up this Friday, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article and analyse the captaincy conundrum ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. As usual, we delve into the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s reckoning, before rounding off with our opinion on the current poll standings in light of the data analysis, including our view on differential captains.

The Captain Poll

Alexis Sanchez leads the pack by some distance in the Gameweek 36 Captain Poll.

At home to a Norwich side with a single clean sheet on their travels all season, the Chilean has earned over 45% of the votes cast so far. Despite failing to get amongst the points in Sunday’s goalless draw at Sunderland, Sanchez has scored or assisted in seven of his last eight outings and has earned 39 points in his previous three at the Emirates.

Sergio Aguero is some way behind in second spot. Although he got amongst the goals at home to Stoke last week, the Argentine’s 69th-minute withdrawal against the Potters prior to last Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg with Real Madrid has persuaded just 11% to hand him the armband for a trip to St Mary’s, bearing in mind the return leg in Spain is three days later.

Romelu Lukaku (8%) takes third spot for Everton’s home match against Bournemouth. Granted, the Belgian has no form to speak of – having drawn blanks in each of his last five in the league – but a total of seven efforts in last week’s cup loss to United at least suggests his threat is on the rise.

Daniel Sturridge is backed by only 4% due to concerns over Jurgen Klopp’s team sheet for Liverpool’s trip to Swansea. The England international was an unused sub in the first leg in Spain last night, though, which perhaps bodes well for his domestic minutes as he looks to continue a fine recent record of five goals and two assists in six league outings.

Despite scoring eight times in the last seven, Harry Kane earns just 2% of votes for Tottenham’s trip to Chelsea. The Blues have just one clean sheet in ten – against Villa – though if Leicester clinch the league at Old Trafford the day before, there would be major question marks over Spurs’ morale at the Bridge.

Elsewhere, West Ham duo Dimitri Payet and Andy Carroll could be overlooked options for the trip to West Brom. Payet has four double-figure hauls on his travels already – including two in his last four – whilst Carroll’s aerial threat could thrive from the Frenchman’s delivery against the Baggies as he seeks to extend his run of six goals in the last five league matches.

Are these current standings backed by the underlying statistics, though?

We begin by breaking down the player and team data for their respective last four matches in order to shed a little more light on the situation.

    My WC Team:

    De Gea // Ruddy
    Bellerin // Smalling // Stones // Cresswell // PvA
    Sanchez // Fabregas // Eriksen // Townsend // Hoolahan
    Sturridge // Carroll // Defoe

    Any Recommendations?

Front 3 is exactly what I'd go for.

Midfield is nice but Brady a much better option than Hoolahan. Also need Payet ...

      Stones a big no.

Hi all, apologies for the long one but could really do with a little help with what to do?!!

Currently lying in 3rd and 4th spots in mini cash leagues 22pts and 52pts respectively behind on topspot. What to do to try make a move?

    Migs (Darlow)

Bellerin / Cresswell / PVA (Simpson, Ward)

    Sanchez (c) / Payet / Townsend / Milner (Mane)

    Kun / Kane / Welbeck

My 1 FT already used on Alli > Townsend.

    A - Kane / Mane > Hazard / Deeney -8, then DGW37 Welbeck / Ward > Carroll / Smalling -4 giving 10 DGW'ers.

    B - Kane > Sturridge -4, then DGW 37 Welbeck / Mane > Carroll / Fabregas -4 giving 9 DGW'ers.

C - Do nothing more this week, DGW 37 Welbeck / Mane / Bellerin > Carroll / Fabregas / Smalling -8 giving only 8 DGW'ers but using element of surprise on rivals!!

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions 😉

Got the same issues as most I guess, just not sure whther to take a hit now or ride it out until next GW. Team is:

    Darlow - Robles
Monreal - Fuchs -Reid - Gabriel - Sakho*
Sanchez - Mahrez - Payet -Lanzini - Alli*
    Aguero - KAne - Sturridge

Unfortunately 0.1 off doing Alli + Sakho -> Fabregas + PvA this GW. So looking at:

    A) Sakho -> Payet, swallow the Alli price drop (at least 0.2 within next GW) and assess midfield choices then

    B) Sakho + Alli -> Kirchhoff/Kone + Fabregas -4 pts this GW, even though I really shouldn't need a hit this GW to field 11 if either of Kun or Sturridge plays

    your thoughts?

Unfortunately not. I wanted sturridge for GW37 instead of Aguero anyway, means I do my planned -8 this week instead of next.

Alternative is: Cout and Mitro to Payet and Defoe for a -4, but as a Newcastle fan, don't really want Defoe's points. Would leave a bitter taste.

Still going to risk it, my gut feeling is an inform Sturridge in 2 to 3 games will outscore Aguero focussing on the CL and with limited minutes. Its a risk, but keeps things interesting!

Doing Sakho to PvA for free

next week I was looking at

Gabriel, Coutinho and Kane to Cresswell, Hazard and Carroll for -8

would you get Pedro or Fabregas this week instead for Coutinho for -4, or wait the week and release the cash for Hazard?

    1. The Sarjeant

Wait a week anyway, you might prefer one of the others to Hazard by then.

    Mannone, Robles.
    Bellerin, Gabriel, Simpson, Sakho, Smalling.
    Sánchez, KDB, Mahrez, Antonio, Coutinho.
    Agüero, Kane, Defoe.

I was thinking about doing KDB + Sakho > Payet + Cresswell. If I did Coutinho > Payet I'd only have 4.6 for a Sakho replacement.
