Wayne Rooney serves up a goal and assist as United beat Bournemouth 3-1 in the final match of the season. A late Chris Smalling own goal proves costly, however, and denies the Red Devils a thirteenth shut-out in front of their own supporters.

Rooney in the points

Louis van Gaal named a strong starting line-up as Man United clinched fifth place in the Premier League thanks to a 3-1 home win over Bournemouth in the final fixture of 2015/16.

Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with his first effort in eight league appearances and also bagged an assist and maximum bonus points from a central midfield berth to earn a 12-point haul in the Gameweek.

Marcus Rashford’s strike took his tally to five in 11 league appearances and Ashley Young also found the net against Eddie Howe’s side. Anthony Martial and Antonio Valencia, meanwhile, provided an assist apiece to finish the season in fine form. The Frenchman racked up 26 points in his final three league appearances, whilst Valencia – who started the final six matches under Van Gaal – registered an impressive 40 points from a right-back berth over that period.

Smalling error scuppers another shut-out

Whilst the United attackers brought home the points, it was a disappointing evening for those holding United defensive regulars David de Gea and Chris Smalling. De Gea’s chances of earning an 18th clean sheet of the season and sharing the Golden Glove award with Petr Cech were denied after Smalling converted a Max Gradel attempt into his own net in stoppage time.

Adding salt to the wound for the Red Devils defence, Bournemouth failed to register a single attempt on target over the 90 minutes. De Gea was left with two points to take home, then, whilst Smalling’s gaffe saw him produce zero points last night.

Nonetheless, the result still means that Van Gaal’s outfit were joint-first for both clean sheets (18, along with Arsenal) and goals against (35, along with Spurs) highlighting the resilience of their defence at Old Trafford. Despite last night’s disappointment, a tally of 12 shut-outs and nine goals against in front of their own fans was superior to any side across the 2015/16 season.

Sevilla will score against that Pool defence. Just a case of how well Liverpool attack. 2-2 might be a good call.

Get your chips out for the lads!

Now the season is over how did everyone get on with the new chips? This is how mine went -

    TC +25 points
    BB +19 points
    AOA -3 points

      AOA: +8pts
      TC: +25pts
      BB: +16pts

In contast to many others I also see the AOA chip as the only usefull chip, usefull as in being a 'tool' to save one from having to use a ft. Did not use it that way though, but next season I'll save it should such a reason occur.

That's a good point. I used mine when I was in a defensive hole but it didn't work out. I suppose you can assign a value of 4 to it straight away if you would have taken a hit to get in a 3rd playing defender.

          • 12 Years

Yeah but it's even better. Even saving you from making a ft is quite good as you then have that in future when other or more trouble arises

      2. Hooky

I see what you are saying, it saves wasting a FT on a defender if you have 3 out for some reason. I think if it's still a chip next season I'll probably just keep it in case that happens and not worry if it doesn't get used.

Also been chatting to my brother about other chips

        All out defence
Captain and Vice - Vice or Captain gets double depending on who has most points that GW
Goals Doubled- any goal is double points that week
60 Minute Man- 60 minutes = extra CS point if you lose a goal after then you still get the point

Some decent ideas there. It'll be interesting to see if they change it up for next season.

Not bad ideas there, I like those.

Would also be interesting/fun to see 'Captain of Chance' chip. Where you get to pick a C and if he doesn't get goal or assist you automaticly get your highest scorer or the highest scorer on that possition as C. Would let us take a real chance in 1 gw.

      TC +25 points
      BB +10 points
      AOA +8 points

Didn't save BB for the double - but to be fair would otherwise have done it GW34 and missed out on TC Sanchez for a 75 point haul. Worked out in the end

      TC +3 Martial
      BB +3 GW Courtois RC
AOA -5 Dawson scored a goal and Mahrez blanked
I don't think anyone playing seriously did worse
Ended up just inside 21k though after that nightmare

Not sure how you work out AOA pt value? I.e. which fwd/mid would have been the one that missed out for a defender? Kolarov (5pts) would have been played but can't remember who would have missed out.

      BB +36pts
      TC +12Pts (Payet GW37)

Of course. United and England living legend, and now as he's able to play in midfield it'll be much easier for Roy to find a place for him in the starting XI.

We'd struggle to keep the ball with Milner and Dier as the deeper two. Maybe if you played Rooney alongside Milner with Dier behind it could work but I worry about Rooney's positional discipline.

Rooney plays deeper than that. He likes to collect the ball from defence and spray long balls up the pitch. If successful he moves higher up the pitch into the #10 area. I think some people get too hung up on formations, positions are more dynamic than that really imo.

            How about something like:

            ------------ Kane ------------
            -------------- Alli --------------
            Rooney - Drinkwater - Milner

This is the reply I got yesterday about the HOF update -

I think it's basically whenever Chris gets round to it - I'm sure it will happen at some point over the summer but I couldn't try to put a date on it I'm afraid. Last couple of years:

      29 June 2015: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/06/29/live-hall-of-fame-updated/
      31 May 2014: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/05/31/fantasy-football-scout-hall-of-fame-updated-3/

Got another quick question for you Jonty which maybe you could ask the professor if you're not sure - if I were to not enter a team for next season then return to FPL the following season, would I still keep my place in the Hall of Fame? Obviously would expect a fall in the rankings but just want to make sure I don't get taken out altogether.

I started supporting them when I was like 8 years old due to how attacking they played at the time, and don't get me wrong, it's been entertaining and fun at times having Perez at the helm, but the man is sooo business oriented it's terrifying haha

Is this not the way of the world now? I thought Roma were doing the same with Rudiger. And i think the buy-back clause that Barca started using is disgusting too, it made sure that they didn't miss out any time. That's selfish!

Since I found Ffs, this is me. My second full season was 12/13.

    2012/13 - 189
    2013/14 - 2212
    2014/15 - One year sabbatical
    2015/16 - 77 (#1 in India)

After a terrible start this year, am now building a decent cv.

Hi all, I'm interested to hear what prizes you have on offer in leagues you are involved in to help me plan for next season. Basically, I'm trying to think of new prizes for next season to keep my league interesting. I currently run a league of 10 where we put in a fair amount of cash each. This season, everybody in the league managed some sort of return so it seems to be working fairly well as it stands, keeping everyone interested with something to play for, even if not doing great in main league. I'm hoping for a few new ideas for next season and would appreciate suggestions if you have any please. Below are the competitions ran currently:

League (Prizes for 1st to 4th)

2 Cups (one ran in each half of season with prizes for winner, runner up and 3rd following group stage)

Manager of the month (ran for each of the 10 months of season with prize for winner and runner up)

Starting XI League (Basically classic fantasy football where I track the scores of peoples starting team and whoever does best over season gets the cash. There are no captain points, chips etc.)

Highest Score of season (as it says on tin, prize for highest score in a gameweek in season)

One off winner (randomly select a week at the beginning of season and give a prize goes to the highest scorer in that chosen week)

Beat the Average (Last man standing style competition where you need to beat the average score for the FPL or you are out. Whoever is the last standing wins the cash)

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/05/17/chelsea-sign-60m-a-year-kit-sponsorship-deal-with-nike/

Because clubs still don't earn enough...

Does raise a question for me, Who does your kit and are you happy with it? Chelsea have had Adidas for a number of years and the shirts have been much of a muchness and boring. Hoping switch to Nike will help.

I loved the black and reddish/orange United kit this year by Adidas. I think it probably depends on how much you can do with the jersey, I've always found the Chelsea ones to be quite similar. Nice, but doesn't seem like there's lots you can do with it.

I've liked Chelsea's away kits more than the home for the last few years. Do you get the home shirt most years or every couple of years? I mean I get the colours can't really be messed with but how about a collar, or maybe an old school laces tie up! It just seems they say lets keep the kit pretty much the same as last year. Interested to see if it's an adidas thing or if it's the same with Nike/NB/Puma etc.

I don't really care tbh, most kits are the same since the vast majority are made by one of 2 different companies.

So we think the points are in defence and attack in euro fantasy?

Midfield is a bit of a minefield. Thinking of tailoring it to have 3 expensive pretty much strikers in midfield. Martial, Reus and Perisic + 2 nailed cheapies who have a slim chance in points

Not much tempting me in midfield as they all seem risky, either to start or not getting returns though they cost so much.

My exact thought, 7m or over mids, rest under allowing 5 great defenders. Thus setting up for possibility to end up on 5-2-3.
