Antonio Candreva produces a goal and assist as Italy win at home against Finland. Alfred Finnbogason also collects a goal and assist as Iceland put four past Liechtenstein, whilst a rare rest for Robert Lewandowski sees Poland fail to find a way past Lithuania.

Italy 2 Finland 0

Antonio Candreva bagged a goal and assist as Italy secured a second successive win with a 2-0 home triumph over Finland.

After opening the scoring from the spot in the first half, the Lazio midfieler – who was stationed as a right wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation – teed up substitute Daniel de Rossi for Italy’s second. Priced at 7.5 in the Uefa game, Candreva produced three attempts on goal and as many key passes and is owned by just 1% of Fantasy managers so far.

Antonio Conte made six alterations from the side that beat Scotland 1-0 last week.

Aside from Candreva and the back three of Leonardo Bonucci, Andreas Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini, Sunderland’s Emmanuel Giaccherini was the only other player to retain his place. Priced at 5.0 and listed as a defender in the Uefa game, he’s now started each of the last four in midfield and shared corner kick duties with Candreva last night. Last night’s result heightens the appeal of the Italy defence, with Conte’s men arriving in France on the back of successive shut-outs.

Up front, Simone Zaza and Ciro Immobile failed to grasp their opportunities. The duo produced eight and three attempts respectively but their inability to find the net looks likely to allow Graziano Pelle and Eder the chance to lead the line in the group opener with Belgium.

Italy XI: Sirigu; Barzagli, Bonucci (Ogbonna 85), Chiellini; Candreva (Bernardeschi 76), Parolo, Motta (De Rossi 63), Giaccherini (Sturaro 64), El Shaarawy (Florenzi 69); Zaza (Pelle 81), Immobile

Poland 0 Lithuania 0

Robert Lewandowski was handed the night off as Poland failed to score for the first time in ten matches after stuttering to a goalless draw against visitors Lithuania.

Despite the absence of their top scorer, the home side still boasted a significant threat and fired 18 attempts on goal, though managed just a single shot on target.

Arkadiusz Milik (7.5 in Uefa) looked the most dangeorus for Adam Nawalka’s side. Typically utilised in the central support role, he was shifted up front as a result of Lewandowski’s omission and registered five efforts on goal. Wide men Jakub Blaszczykowski and Kamil Grosicki failed to impress and managed just one shot apiece.

At the back, Kamil Glik has now started each of the last six matches and, at 5.0, offers a reliable route into a defence that’s now chalked up three clean sheets in four. The 4.5-priced Jakub Wawrzyniak returned to the XI last night and has started two of the three matches since first-choice left-back Maciej Rybus was ruled out through injury.

Poland XI: Fabianski (Boruc 46); Kapustka, Glik (Salamon 46), Cionke, Wawrzyniak; Maczynski (Jodlowiec 46), Krychowiak; Blaszczykowski (Jedrzejczyk 74), Starzynski, Grosicki (Peszko 77); Milik

Iceland 4 Liechtenstein 0

It’s two wins in three now for Iceland after they bounced back from last week’s 3-2 loss in Norway with an emphatic 4-0 victory at home to Liechtenstein.

Alfred Finnbogason teed up striker partner Kolbeinn Sigthorsson for the opening goal before scoring his side’s third just before the break. Whilst the latter (7.0) looks a little more secure for minutes, Finnbogason – at just 5.5 – could be one to monitor for those in need of a budget striker. Veteran Eidar Gudjohnsen (6.0) emerged from the bench to notch but is likely to be mainly utilised as a sub during the tournament.

A first clean sheet in six attempts coincided with the return of Hannes Halldorsson between the posts. First-choice keeper during qualifying, he has recovered from injury and ended Ogmundur Kristinsson’s run of six straight starts over the friendlies – frustratingly, Halldorsson is the more expensive of the pair at 5.0 to 4.5. Elshewhere in defence, though, Sverrir Ingi Ingason is also priced at 4.5 and has started the last three at centre-half, scoring in each of the previous two matches. Right-back Birkir Saevarsson (5.0) was also in the goals, netting for the first time in 57 international appearances.

Iceland XI: Halldorsson; Saevarsson, Ingason, R Sigurdsson (Hermannsson 54), Skulason (Magnusson 87); Gudmundsson (Bjarnason 46), Gunnarsson, G Sigurdsson, Traustason (Hallfredsson 69); Sigthorsson (Sigurjonsson 79) Finnbogason (Gudjohnsen 46).

    Best combination:

    A) Alba, Schar, Ozil, Morata
    B) Ramos, Schar, Fabregas, Muller
    C) Juanfran, Rodriguez, Fabregas, Muller

I'd love to have Alba in my squad, but the extra 1.5 mil over Juanfran unbalances my team (doesn't help that I have Lewa)

It doesn't really unbalance my team though. If I want to go Cesc + Muller over Ozil + Morata I can easily keep Alba by losing 0.5 somewhere.

I feel the same way - I really want him, but feel my team becomes too imbalanced if I put him in.

Would you downgrade Schar to 5.0 (Djourou, Dragovic or Glik most likely) in order to keep Alba over Ramos?

Nope, I'd prefer Alba over Ramos, but not by enough to warrant downgrading Schar. Not mad on many of the 5.0 options.

Each matchday consists of several gamedays. You can switch captains between gamedays but not on the same gameday. So in your example, yes you can change from Muller to Ronaldo. But you can't change from Shaqiri to Bale because they play on the same day.

Also, a red card is very bad news because you then can't sub them out or change captain from them.

I presume it's allowed to sub a player in, and then sub them back out the next day?

I would be very surprised if you couldn't. It hasn't been explicitly stated but I don't see any reason why not. Except just to be awkward and annoy their users for fun, and this is UEFA we're talking about ...

    Kozacik Rui Patricio
    Alba Koscielny Schar Srna Bonucci
    Perisic Konoplyanka Matuldl Hamsik Junuzovic
    Giroud Janko Morata

Would be doing a GW3 WC so only looking at the first 2 games.

Should all be solid starters, enough different day players but no big hitter captain options but with so many chances I think I'm happier with this approach.

Anyone care to give an opinion?

Cheers, pretty sure on the Iceland keeper and is a good match-up with Sommer. Nolito is a risk but imo he will either be all or nothing and I can't miss out on that opportunity! Pogba I just love. The man is a footballing god. To not have Pogba in his prime in his home tournament would be a travesty, player of the tournament potential.

I'm worried about the Giaccherini pick, as I believe Conte will go with Florenzi, Motta and De Rossi in central midfield flanked by Candreva and El Sharaawy, so possibly Giac will be benched even though he is one of Conte's favourites.... 1st match Italy play Belgium too so avoid him and get him in MD2 if he starts...

    Kozack (Patricio)
Jaunfran - Schar - Vrsalijko (Giaccherini - Juhasz)
Ozil - Alli - Perisic - Stanciu (Alaba)
    Lewa - Giroud - Muller

Happy with the strike force and goalkeepers, injury would be the only thing that would make me change it.
My main question would be midfield and defense. Perisic or Hamsik? Juhasz has decent attacking stats, but I'm not sure if he is nailed. Also, I would love to swap Jaunfran out for Alba, but is having a 4.5 mid and a 4.0 defender a handicap? Any thoughts are heartily appreciated!!!
    Cheers!

Keep Nolito and Bale, because nobody can compete with them in the Welsh and Spanish teams. Decide who you have btter cover for between Giroud and Muller. If you've got a German midfielder or two, take Giroud. If you've got a French midfielder or two, take Muller.

    Hello folks. Thoughts here?

    Sommer
    Juanfran, Rami, Dier
    Gotze, Payet, Perisic, Hamsik
    Muller, Giroud(c), Morata

    Patricio, Dragovic, Stanciu, Denayer

      Template keepers.
      Decent defence.
Morata may be injured (not sure) but good forward line.

Not mad on the midfielders.. I feel like Gotze is overpriced, Payet is slightly too risky for me with Martial knocking about. I don't rate Croatia and Hamsik is overpriced too for me when you can get Mak from Slovakia..
      Nothing wrong with Stanciu! 🙂

Thanks for the input. I had Martial in for Payet but weakens defence. I have never really heard much of Mak before but see he is mentioned a lot on here!

Too many punts mate. First Nolito, now Giaccherini. Neither is nailed on, better avoid both.

              Erm, what?

What I said is that a nailed-on player is a one who starts basically every match, but may be rested, for example, in the friendlies or on the last round of the group if the 1st place finish is guaranteed.

Why the manager starts a certain player in every match, I do not know, but I usually assume that he thinks that player is his team's best for that position.

                Tl:dr
In my eyes they've impressed and have as much chance as most in the squad, we shall see won't we

I don't disagree with any of that, but that's not nailed on, though.

Anyway, I guess you're misreading the joking between myself and IM:

    After some more tinkering.............thoughts?

Some might say too much spent in defence, but rest of the team isn't exactly suffering and I can afford it. Worst case, downgrade Alba > Ramos? Really fancy Spanish double-up.

    Patricio - Kozacik
    Alba - Juanfran - Schar - Koscielny - Hinteregger
    Ozil - Perisic - Weiss - Junuzovic - Stanciu
    Morata - Giroud Muller

    Feedback appreciated.

I would argue the midfield is suffering. Weiss, Junuzovic and Stanciu are all budget options. That said, I love the Spain double. Perhaps you could downgrade Koscielny to Rami and Morata to Nolito?

Thanks for the feedback. However, I think i'll just downgrade Alba to Ramos and upgrade Hinteregger to Dier. I'm honestly happy enough with the midfield.

Bit of an SOS from friend of mine who was out of the Country and ran a couple of Cash Leagues and now he has no access to FPL to see who won!! By the message on the site, it won't be available anymore.

I spend all day on FFS telling people to get the same team as me.
I am obsessed with stats. If the stats don't show it, it didn't happen.
I enjoy debate. In my world that means generously educating others.
I am happy to agree with any reasonable comment as long as I said it first.
I have set up a mini-league against myself. It will be an electric competition.

Thoughts on getting a NI defender? Clean sheets in their last three matches against Slovakia, Slovenia and Belarus. Poland failed to score in their last game against Lithuania (admittedly they didn't have Lewandowski) - don't see why not as you can get a guaranteed £4.5 starter which almost all teams don't offer.
