Last up in our assessment of the Group F teams is Hungary. Bernd Storck’s side get their tournament underway against Austria on Tuesday June 14 at 5pm before taking on Iceland four days later at 5pm and group favourites Portugal on Wednesday June 22 at 8pm.

Road to Qualification

Hungary finished third in a qualifying group behind Northern Ireland and Romania, winning four and drawing four of their ten fixtures. After scoring just 11 times and conceding nine, their goal difference of just +2 is the worst amongst any qualifier, though it’s worth bearing in mind that Storck was only handed the reins with four matches remaining.

Prior to his appointment, Hungary had scored just five goals and conceded three times in six matches, with four clean sheets accrued. After Storck was promoted from his role as head coach of the Hungary Under 20s, the national side looked far more attack-minded and bagged six goals in the remaining four matches, though also conceded six times and managed a single shut-out.

Pitted against Norway in the play-offs, Storck guided his team to a 1-0 away win before a 2-1 home triumph sealed Hungary’s progress to a major international tournament for the first time in 30 years.

In terms of recent friendlies under the new man in charges, the Magyars drew with Croatia (1-1) and Ivory Coast (0-0) prior to losing 2-0 to Germany on Saturday evening, though that loss to Joachim Lowe’s men was only their second in the last nine matches under Storck.

Most Appearances Balazs Dzsudzsak (12), Tamas Kadar (11), Attila Fiola, Gabor Kiraly (10), Zoltan Gera, Roland Juhasz, Nemanja Nikolic (9), Akos Elek, Tamas Priskin, Adam Szalai, Daniel Tozser (8), Krisztian Nemeth (7)

Most goals Daniel Bode, Krisztian Nemeth, Tamas Priskin (2)

Most assists Akos Elek, Tamas Kadar (2)

The Key Targets

Bursaspor wide man Balazs Dzsudzsak is the clear standout candidate for those eyeing up Hungary’s options. Priced at 6.5 in Uefa, he produced more than double the number of shots and attempts on target than any team-mate over the qualifiers, though his penchant for a long range effort means that just six of his shots arrived inside the box and saw him score just once over 12 appearances. The number one for key passes, crosses and dead-ball duties, he also looks a valid option in the DraftKings game. Dzsudzsak recently recovered from injury to prove his fitness in time for the tournament and netted the equaliser in the recent draw against Croatia.

Handed a call-up for the first play-off match against Norway, Laslo Kleinheisler vindicated his manager’s decision by netting the winner that day and has started five successive matches – a feat only matched by Dzsudzsak amongst Hungary’s attackers. Priced at just 5.0, his recent numbers suggest he could be worthy budget option in the centre of the park – Kleinheisler is neck-and-neck with Dzsudzsak for both attempts on goal and chances created over the last three friendlies.

Former West Brom man Zoltan Gera brings a wealth of experience to the centre of the park. The veteran has the all-round numbers to suggest he is one to consider for DraftKings – second only to Dzsudzsak for total attempts and shots on target, he was third and fourth for successful tackles and interceptions thanks to his central midfield berth.

At the back, a single clean sheet in eight is hardly encouraging and should steer most managers well clear. Regardless, right-back Attila Fiola played ten times over the qualifiers and comes in at 5.0 to Tamas Kadar’s 5.5 – the former was first for successful tackles by some distance and second for interceptions, which indicates he may be best-suited to the DraftKings game.

The Long Shots

Up top, Adam Szalai has now started each of the last couple of friendlies and looks to have edged ahead in the race for the lone striker role in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. Priced at 6.5 in Uefa, he’s scored eight times in 32 internationals though has struggled for form of late and may be a punt too far.

Adam Lang played no part in the qualifiers but, like Kleinheisler, has benefitted from Storck’s decision to promote players from the youth set-up. At a price of 4.5, Lang has started four successive matches and offers the cheapest option amongst Hungary’s backline regulars.

Intriguingly, Lang’s fellow defender Adam Pinter has been selected in the centre of the park in the previous couple of friendlies. Priced at just 4.0, Pinter has produced three efforts inside the box – more than any team-mate over the last three matches – and could be a real under the radar out of position enabler if he holds onto that role.

KDB is fyaaaah. But. he's expensive and Belgiums group isnt as good as others. That 10m is a prime Striker. Rather have a 10m striker and a 7m mid, than other way round.

I don't think anyone is a no no so to speak. KDB is a good player and a very important player for Belgium. I think he will do well this tournament but he does cost a lot. If you want to splash on forwards KDB becomes a struggle. Combine that with a tricky group and it makes him hharder to select but I think he will do OK

KDB scored against Italy not too long ago in a friendly. Italy played a good team too.

It's not impossible but it might be better to have him for the last two games.

Denayer by a mile. Guerriero you will not have their lineup before you have to sub him in as they play second and if he doesn't play and a zero is staring at you it is quite a nightmare. With no bonus points, even 2s and 3s will be that much more important.

A goal/assist or clean sheet is probably enough. Unless say you only get one return in Matchday one. Then you may feel that risk is worth it with 4 days remaining

I won a matchday ball once with a Dockal captaincy in the first round. He bagged a brace from midfield. You need 10+ imo

Tough depends who is left, point total goes down as it gets deeper into the gameweek. I think 9 is the minimum I'm thinking of. Brace or goal and assist...

Purely because Woy's system looked awkward and for me he's on freekicks when he should be in the box getting on the end of them. Still think he'll get two or 3 goals

The main reason is in this post.

Just remove "purely because" and "'s system looked awkward and for me he's on freekicks when he should be in the box getting on the end of them. Still think he'll get two or 3 goals"

          3. Walsh
            • 12 Years

He's still going to get a solid supply of service in that group regardless of formation he will be the tip at the end of the spear. I wonder how many free kicks he will in fact be on with Rooney there. I don't think he's a very good threat on set pieces when he's in the mixer...always seems quite poor at that for Spurs. He usually has the job of screening and getting in the way of the keeper on corners speaks volumes..Either way, think he'll return nicely and it helps that he's the best cap option on a day without too many heavy hitting options.

I don't want to get to anal about it all. I don't think you need to stretch it out to have a good captain option every single day

Seems illogical to base it off of their age, but it could be a point of consideration I guess. Either way, you can talk yourself into thinking he will start or not, but for me the most likely scenario is one of them plays two group games and one plays one. Either way you slice it Guerriero is a huge risk in my opinion and not one worth taking. If he played on the first couple days, though, then......

Tempting for sure...very tempting...but just too risky I think. I agree with you he does look to be the frontrunner at this point for the spot but still. Again, I think playing on the last game of the last day is the most indicting point in the case against him. It's too bad really because he may well emerge as the best 4.0 defender or even better than most/all of the 4.5 defenders.

This is wishful thinking. If Guerrero was really ahead of Eliseu he'd have started in the last meaningful defensive test, at Wembley. Only Pepe missed that one, rested after the CL final.

If I read the rules correctly you don't have to do manual subs at all.

If it suits you you can put out the team you think is best and at the end of the game week auto subs would take place as normal. You would be restricted by your original captain choice etc but if you want to buy someone like Guerriero you would at least get an autosub in for your player

Seems weird though - like what if you make one manual sub does all auto subbing get overridden? If you leave Guerriero in your starting lineup from the beginning and leave one player like another cheap defender who plays before but manual sub the other two spots will that untouched sub come in for him? If you switch captaincy 1 time does that override autosubs? The rule seems ambiguous and not something I'd want to rely on to help me sort my lineup out.

Agreed. Just bench the 3 players + GK playing last and sub in the best of the 4 if needed. Don't have to do anything apart from change captain for the 1st few days.

None taken. I think the rule is just strange to be honest. Why give both options? One or the other is all that is necessary

I think Shaq is less selected for a couple of reasons

            1. We are used to Shaq being a mid. People see it as a waste to use a forward slot on a player they consider a mid.
            2. He plays for Switzerland which may will perceive as a less strong side.
            3. There is just so much competition for these forward slots. We cannot have everyone

I don't even think it's that bad as an eleven. We all seem to think we are experts but we'll probably get trolled by the casuals again. Bear in mind you can substitute players, means a squad of 15 is essential

        Got Sigurdsson, Perisic, Alli, Payet

        A) Kane, 7.5M-8.5M midfielder (specify)
        B) Nolito, De Bruyne

Feeling B right now despite the tough game for Belgium. Nolito's put up some great numbers for Celta Vigo and Spain lately and plays a leaky defence.

i think KDB is worth monitoring. he has more potential to explode than ozil but also more potential to flop, whereas ozil will tick over more reliably. the main issue for me is that he's starting out against a well drilled defence and he's playing for a team that doesn't historically function too well as a collective, relative to individual ability. best to wait and watch him IMO, we'll learn a lot about both him and belgium from that italy game.

Well they are both part of decent defences which have 2 good games and one poor one. For me it would depend upon the make up of the rest defence and whether I want a player who I would play in week 2 or week 3. Both are good for week 1
