Dugout Discussion – Germany vs Ukraine

We conclude Sunday’s events with a floodlit clash between Germany and Ukraine in Group C.

Germany will undoubtedly be considered favourites to begin their campaign with a victory. However, question mark remains over Joachim Löw’s side in a number of positions and their form on arrival in France is far from convincing. Defeats to England and Slovakia in pre-tournament friendlies has raised doubts in the German camp.

Their opponents will head into the contest with some confidence. Ukraine have won nine of their last 13 outings, with victories in their last four. A 1-0 reverse at the hands of Spain has been their only setback in this impressive spell.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

WTF 🙂 nothing like a whiff of your own junk to get your tactics clear in your head.

Someone has to have a quiet word with Löw and tell him the ageing small town hair salon owner outfit and look needs to go. 🙂

How is that a foul by Ukraine when Neuer gets away with cleaning the other guy out?

That was a pretty clear penalty for Ukraine there.

Stupid question. Muller C and KDB on bench all I do is substitute them and make KDB C

Don't need to take C off Muller first right?

Typical Germany getting 3 points from playing poorly.

You can throw all the stats and figures you want

Ukraine denied a clear penalty and Germany score as a result of it not being given. Clear robbery.

Those stats were probably rather related to your second point, which isn't really fair - neither to Germany nor to Ukraine.

I would say Ukraine defended well rather than Germany being prolific in attack, similarly to Northern Ireland with Poland earlier

Guess it doesn't matter in the end, result is decided now, no point crying over spilled milk, etc.

You're right that Ukraine got robbed in the end, but it's very harsh to say that Germany were poor. I'd rather say that Ukraine were impressive too, and made the life difficult for Germans, but there's no question that the better team won.

A good match between two impressive sides, anyway.

Germany were nowhere near their best

Were lucky not to concede with that defence they had out, but yeah I guess the better team won in the end (albeit with help from the referee)

    Love the celebration by sweinsteiger

I thought Ukraine were decent, much better than Poland were today, comfortable on the ball considering the opposition, spread out well decent short passing and control/tempo think BBC commentary bit harsh.
