Dugout Discussion – Germany vs Ukraine

We conclude Sunday’s events with a floodlit clash between Germany and Ukraine in Group C.

Germany will undoubtedly be considered favourites to begin their campaign with a victory. However, question mark remains over Joachim Löw’s side in a number of positions and their form on arrival in France is far from convincing. Defeats to England and Slovakia in pre-tournament friendlies has raised doubts in the German camp.

Their opponents will head into the contest with some confidence. Ukraine have won nine of their last 13 outings, with victories in their last four. A 1-0 reverse at the hands of Spain has been their only setback in this impressive spell.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        They played a good team with one of the best strikers in the world and came out of it well I thought. Dunno if he's expecting to outplay teams but if he is he's probably gonna be disappointed.

        I'd have been proud as punch of them if they'd been my lads....

          For managers I'm a big fan of miserable. Angry, banging tables, letting the players know their performance wasn't good enough.

          Better that than Wright, Dixon and Crouch on ITV post match last night. Conceding a last minute equaliser, dropping two vital points, informing viewers that they're not worried about the result because England played well. They should have been as angry as Michael O'Neill furious that despite playing well they didn't take the points because they didn't play to the whistle.

          Didn't bother with fantasy in the end, but had him pencilled in as the clear best 5.5 mid option, imo.

          I remember our chat about him a while back, instantly after the Swede squad was announced 🙂 Looking forward to watching him weekly next season for RB Leipzig, who are signing Timo Werner to link up with him.

              Assuming Forsberg stays of course, which I don't see any reason why he shouldn't. RB Leipzig have ambition, a big budget and are hoping to become contenders for Europe in a few years.

    Another way to think about it is to consider what a good score will be at the end of the round. I reckon:

    60pts = par
    70pts = good
    80+pts = excellent

    Something like that anyway.

      That looks about right for on here . I think it will probably be closer to 60 point = good , 70 points = excellent . I think it would have been that if Muller and Lewandowski had delivered

      Yeah good scores will be higher than in FPL since we can sub out early blankers and get multiple shots at getting the armband right.

    My Muller,Ozil, Gotze triple up completely flopped.

    My only remaining players are Juanfran, Fab, Nolito tomorrow and Hinteregger on the final day. Do I captain Juanfran for most secure points? In hindsight I shouldn't have got greedy with my captain, 6 points from Djourou is solid.

        Apparently it was no surprise. The reporter stated they had said their good bye before Darijo left for France.
        It puts Srna's performance in a different light though as it must have been hard focusing on the training and the match.
        He was magnificent today. One also wonders what emotions this sets off now for the future games, I would like to be with my family for sure. But they knew it was happening so I guess he is prepared.

          I'll go for a good 15, maybe 14 for the last 16 WC.
          There's just 4 ft for Q/F. Hopefully get 3x 4m fodder and max cash for the other 12. Can't see the point in using wildcard during the groups when teams and fixtures are known and nearly every team will fight to get through in the third round. Each to their own.

            It just depends on whether any teams have already qualified come MD3. It could be that some of your players would be at risk of rotation.

            Otherwise, like you, I'm inclined to wait till the QF stage.
