Dugout Discussion – Spain vs Czech Republic

Monday’s matches begin with the current European Championship holders opening their bid to retain the crown as Spain face the Czech Republic in the afternoon kick-off.

Vicente del Bosque’s side will be defending a proud record which has seen them keep a clean sheet in their last nine tournament matches, a spell which spans 510 minutes. They go to France in strong form but having suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Georgia in their previous “warm-up” encounter, their first defeat in 12 matches.

That setback will offer the Czech Republic a glimmer of hope ahead of today’s meeting. Pavel Vrba’s side aren’t fancied to make it to the knockout stages, despite winning their qualifying group. Their poor defensive record is cited as the main concern – the Czech Republic shipped 14 goals, more than any other qualifying nation. They head into the tournament having lost their previous friendly to South Korea but sneaked a 1-0 win over Russia earlier this month.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        Ronaldo is the only player I'd switch to. He can definitely better Juanfran's score and I think a goal is a safe expectation (if he doesn't score, then Portugal doesn't score). I have Juanfran, don't have Ronaldo though.

        Would you still say that if Perisic put away his chances? Hindsight is 20/20 and Perisic definitely put himself in good scoring chances.

        Iniesta is one of my favourite players in real life, but fantasy isn't real life at all. I'd imagine that next round, health permitting, Perisic does well against a Czech team that needs a result.

        Patricio for me. Basically the question is, will Portugal keep a CS vs. will Alaba score a goal. I think the odds are higher for the former and that generally has held true so far this round.

        3 points def. Odds of CS are slightly above 50%, then you also have another risk of him not starting. Both coinflips need to go through, otherwise you lose points.
