Dugout Discussion – Spain vs Czech Republic

13 June 2016 701 comments

Share:

Monday’s matches begin with the current European Championship holders opening their bid to retain the crown as Spain face the Czech Republic in the afternoon kick-off.

Vicente del Bosque’s side will be defending a proud record which has seen them keep a clean sheet in their last nine tournament matches, a spell which spans 510 minutes. They go to France in strong form but having suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Georgia in their previous “warm-up” encounter, their first defeat in 12 matches.

That setback will offer the Czech Republic a glimmer of hope ahead of today’s meeting. Pavel Vrba’s side aren’t fancied to make it to the knockout stages, despite winning their qualifying group. Their poor defensive record is cited as the main concern – the Czech Republic shipped 14 goals, more than any other qualifying nation. They head into the tournament having lost their previous friendly to South Korea but sneaked a 1-0 win over Russia earlier this month.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Dumb Question
What if I start Guerrero and if he doesn't feature, will Juanfran come in provided he's first in line for autosubs? (Forgot to sub him in today)

Difficult to switch my expectations from FPL to Euro as far as good scores. I would always take a 60 in FPL as a good sgw, but is that true in this game as well?

The ceilings are lower with no baps and defenses seeming pretty tight, but the ability to switch captains and sub your bench players in makes up for that a bit. Something like (returns: 8*6) + (blanks: 2*2) + (captain: 12) would be a good result? 64 points or so?

I think the ability to make subs and change captains brings the base level of points up considerably - any less than 75 i'd consider a poor (or at least un-competitive) score

      Open Controls
      1. tm245
        10 years, 4 months ago

That number seems high - 10 players getting 6 points each plus a captain returning 8 points? Wouldn't that be close to perfection instead of just above uncompetitive?

8 for a captain score is very low, with 3 or 4 attempts at picking one you should be getting 15-20 points from your captain

            He means 8 pre-doubling.

            6 x 10 = 60
            8 x 2 = 16

            60+16 = 76 = barely competitive?

The single highest score by a player has got so far is 12 (Schar, Mustafi & Pique) so literally nobody so far has got a 15 point captaincy bonus. (I'm assuming TM245 is talking captain bonus, not captain score after doubling)

            What they said -- 60 + 16 for a 76.

So many 5s and 6s, it seems, not too surprising considering the lack of avenues for points scoring for the outfield players beyond CS, goals and assists.

Good posts above about not being able to generalize in this format. Each round will be significantly different based on standings on tactical reactions to positions within the group. Flexibility will be key.

That depends on whether Ronaldo and Ibra score hatties each or not. It'll vary gw to gw, but yeah I'd see 75 at the higher end of the scale.

Taking the game in isolation I'd think he could grab a couple. So could be a good bet. But if the games played so far are anything to go by it could be a frustrating night for him.
