Tuesday’s second Euro 2016 match sees Portugal take on Iceland, the smallest nation to ever reach the European Championship finals.

Despite using just 20 players during qualifying, Iceland came second in a tough group, which also included Holland and the Czech Republic, to reach their first major tournament. While their confidence will be further buoyed by a 4-0 friendly victory over Lichtenstein, the Scandinavians, who are under the dual management of Lars Lagerback and Heimir Hallgrimsson, also recorded a 3-2 loss against Norway during their pre-tournament preparations.

Fernando Santos’ Portugal topped their qualifying group and are veterans of the final stages of this competition, having reached the semi-finals in four of their last six appearances. Cristiano Ronaldo will be heavily relied on having scored or assisted nine of Portugal’s 21 goals since his European Championship debut in 2004. The Real Madrid forward also comes into the competition in good recent form, scoring a brace as Portugal beat Estonia 7-0 during their pre-tournament build up.

    Don't panic lads !

    No matter how some of your players have done they'll nearly all play rounds 2 and 3. You have at least 11 starters and a hit is 4 points. Wildcarding in QF where there's just 4 FT makes more sense to me as you can rearrange all 15, get 2 or 3 cheap fodder and max the rest. Wildcarding for 3 or 4 players this early is a waste.

    Fun fact: if you accidentally hit autotranslate in Google Chrome for the official Euro fantasy game page, some of the names of players will be translated. I was looking at my team and wondering who "daughter" and "animal" might be. Turns out they're Alaba and Dier. Any other good ones?

    After subbing in my Austrian players I went from 55 points... to 50! 😕

      🙁 Austrians didn't help us. Looks like Belgium have won even though we were the 3rd highest scoring team in the entire competition yesterday 😕 Hopefully we'll bounce back and beat Sweden 🙂

    Very bizarre, returns from 4 defenders and 3 forwards but all 5 midfielders failed. Granted, Gotze and Hamsik were the only ones of the five that I had ever seen play before, but still...

          Nice. We were quite a margin behind Belgium before today, don't think we've managed to close the gap 🙁 Think we've lost albeit having a great score. Should get the point for the top 6 highest scoring teams though 🙂

    Am reading a lot of wild card posts, but isn't each matchday in the opening round a very different strategic beast?

    Form is only mildly helpful since circumstance becomes a major factor in how teams line up, use tactics, etc. from match to match as the table becomes most important.

    I think the stage where the possible teams go from 16 to 8 will probably be the most enticing one for a WC since the pool of players is so dramatically impacted. Plus, we get unlimited transfers before the round of 16 as it is.
