With the new 2016/17 summer fixtures officially underway following West Ham’s 3-0 defeat to Seattle Sounders earlier this morning, we’re launching the Pre-Season Section of the site once again as we build-up towards the start of the new Premier League campaign. We’ll also be adding the Pre-Season tab on the site main page over the next day.

Most of the 20 Premier League sides are now back in training, with some teams facing their first friendlies towards the end of this week. We’ve put together a list of every club’s confirmed summer schedule so far and also linked every article published over the break for each team. You can visit the Pre-Season guide for a full rundown on all of the Scout Reports, Moving Targets, Great Expectations and Sleeper articles, in addition to our assessments of the three promoted sides, while we’ll also be adding our Fixture Analysis pieces shortly.

We’ll be updating the Pre-Season guide on a daily basis, adding every article upon publication. Each team also has their own “Scout Notes” and “Form Players” sections, which will be added to throughout the summer. We’ll be keeping a close eye on all the friendlies and, as well as rolling out plenty of Scout Scribbles articles to cover the matches, will be using this as a handy one-stop-shop to compile your guide ahead of the launch of the 2016/17 Premier League season next month.

Not for sure. He played 4-4-2 at Siena and has used it with Italy as well. Also played 4-3-3 in his first season at Juve. I think people have this impression that he's only ever played 3-5-2. That isn't true.

doubt he'd keep Baba Rahman, though. Likely to sign another left-footed fullback, imo.

@Kris_Jerome - Apparently being mooted that he'll play a 4-2-4 system at Chelsea (Hazard + Willian as the two wide men, the two forwards named by Champ). Don't think he has the personnel to play his Italy system at Chelsea.

He used the 4-4-2/4-2-4 at Siena and also with Italy in some qualifiers/friendlies. Wouldn't be a shock.

Mkhi confirmed.. Bailly young and has all the tools.. Mourinho said himself he isn't sure whether he is ready to start performing how he thinks he can from day one but his job is to remove that question mark and develop him into a player with the stature brain and personality to be a top United player..

Klop targetting the key areas anyway.. who is this chap Matip?

Mourinho doesn't mess about, he knows what positions need addressing and that's something I like. I think you may need a another CB if Mourinho doesn't play Blind

Matip is a good solid player. Nothing brilliant, nothing mediocre. Long term he'd be a strong squad player for CL. Klopp wanted a new partner for Sakho after the Matip signing

thougths about this EURO fantasy team:

    Hennessey, LLORIS
    Hector, Rami, Umtiti, CEDRIC, ____
Payet, Sanches, POGBA, OZIL, Ramsey ❗
    (C)R7, Muller, GRIEZMANN

    CAPS for likely new arrivals

suggestions for last spot (DEF or replace Ramsey)?
    any changes? Draxler instead Ozil?

    Proposed squad Patricio, Neuer
    Koscielny, Hector, Taylor,

    Ronaldo, Griezmann, Bale

I'm not taking any -4's. To justify that new player over taking a 2 elsewhere they need to put up 6 points. 6 pointers seem pretty tough to come by these days.

Terry will flourish under Conte imo and being part of a back 3 doesn't require as much pace as a 2.

I agree Cahill should go but think Conte will buy someone like Banucci

Well this ^^ is assuming they get koulibaly who will set them back a good 35/40 mil. Zouma is central because it copy pasted that way lol. Him, Cahill or Ivan for the last spot.

            Ivan is hardly a defender!

and I don't see any better fit, with Chelsea's current squad, than Azpil + Ivan as wingbacks. I think Willian and Hazard would struggle in those roles and would be wasted there.

Can Bats play off the striker? if so you could have 3 behind Costa and loose Fabs

            1. Wilshere Knowledge
              • 12 Years

              I simply can't see a back 3 being played.

You need quick defenders who are good on the ball to play that system, and Chelsea currently have no defenders that fit that bill.

Azpi and Ivan as wingbacks would offer very little going forward as well.

I agree. That's why I'm guessing they will play 4-4-2 as Conte is apparently committed to two up top.
Willian, Cuadrado, Rahman would be good wide in an 3-5-2 however

Agreed, those three could do for sure & although not ideal at going forward & supporting the attack. Azpi is another option as well, maybe rotate Baba/Azpi according to the opponent & what he needs in that spot at the given time.

      2. Zasa

Assuming Conte makes the signings to make a 334 viable: That's pretty much 5atb at that point with two full-backs on the flanks, no way Conte goes all out defensive. It'll more than likely be a combination of a traditional winger on one side, & a wing-back on the other.

Ivan's too slow to cover all that ground, & support the attack for 90 mins straight imo. Azpi as well, supporting the attack & making quality deliveries in the box to get loose balls into the feet of the strikers isn't his forte either. Not saying he isn't bad at it, just his quality as æ defensive asset

Don't think that midfield in general would work imo, that pairing of Matic & Cesc isn't ideal here in a Conte system where their roles are very different to Moutinho's back two in midfield. Conte also does not operate with a #10, so I don't think you'd be getting the best of Hazard considering the defensive duties of that role

As it stands I'm not quite sure whether Conte will play a 424, or 334. He certainly needs to make another ball-playing CB/b2b midfielder signing to make a 334 tick like the others imo.

          Completely agree zasa my man.
My original point on last post was if he wants to play his 3-3-4 he'd have to overhaul the squad completely. 4-2-4 looks good though.

People don't realize he is proper old school Italian. He will bench/sell more talented players in favour of more suitable players

Ayeee, for sure Champers. That 424 you posted on top of the page makes way more sense. I think they need one more B2b milf to protect Cesc playing as a regista in a 352 tbh & ideally one more ball-playing CB, but maybe Conte may see some use in Ivan there perhaps.

An old-school Italian with a damn good kick in 'em too 😉 https://twitter.com/_PhilCosta/status/748263348408619009

also that midfield is awful, why is Fab behind Kante/Matic??

that team would struggle with goals as there is very little supply with Haz and Willian wasted as wing backs

        It's Conte's tactics not mine 😛
Fab doesn't suit the system at all but the only role he could do is the playmaker which is the deepest midfielder. Kante and Matic are the engine.
The wingers are the main attacking outlet in this formation 😕 If it helps think of it as a 3-3-4 (which is what Conte likes to call it anyways)

KDB/Nolito is nailed on for me. The other premium mid will probably be Miki, so there is possibly place only for Willian. But Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool fixtures aren't great at the start.

Nice to start off on the back foot . You can then revel in the catch up
