The imminent launch of the Fantasy Premier League game ensured that domestic issues took centre stage this week. Our community writers examine the top tips for success while our hot topic posters considered the new management at Manchester United and Everton, as well as Friday night kick offs. We also look back on some key advice for our newest Members on the best gadgets and tools to master, and find out who is doing well in the Euro 2016 official Uefa game before this weekend’s final.

The Community Articles

Ahead of the Fantasy Premier League launch, Bowstring the Carp has compiled his top tips for success. Limiting risk, keeping an eye on prices and having a rudimentary understanding of psychology are among his key nuggets of wisdom.

The Sky Sports game has already launched, with some big changes to its bonus point system. My latest community article takes a look at those players who are set to benefit.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

News of Manchester United’s latest recruits and how the existing squad will be used by new manager Jose Mourinho dominated domestic Fantasy Football chat this week. Bowstring the Carp offered a warning about speedy investment in the Red Devils’ new striker, the veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Meanwhile, our hot topic on whether club captain Wayne Rooney should be listed in FPL as a midfielder had to be hastily rewritten after Jose Mourinho confirmed he will only field the England captain in an advanced role.

As a handful of teams start their pre-season schedule this weekend, the busy Bowstring the Carp was also on hand to run the rule over the friendly fixture list. This week also saw the launch of our Pre-Season Guide, which will detail all the results, key points of interest and collect our team-by-team articles.

In addition, there are changes to the 2016/17 fixture list worth pondering, with Friday night kick-offs set to be a regular feature. With Gameweek 2 set to supply us with the first of these early deadlines, we asked how you will cope with this change.

Among those teams that could be set for a significant upturn in fortunes is Everton, which is under the new management of Ronald Koeman. Disable considered how the former Southampton boss may improve the Fantasy potential of Toffees’ players, in particular defenders.

With Germany’s 2-0 exit to France in yesterday’s Euro 2016 semi-final, Saniul questioned whether Manuel Neuer deserves world class keeper status. Sticking with international football, the community also mulled over the key tactics and players that they hope will bring them mini-league glory as the official Uefa game comes to a close on Sunday.

The Members Tables

With the Euros ending this weekend, Bluebloodedgorkhali has taken a look back at the defensive stats of those teams taking part in the tournament.

There was further discussion about key tables and other tools on offer in the Members area when new Member Super Mario asked the community’s advice on how to best utilise its wealth of information.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Going into the Euro 2016 final Wieczny tops the FFScout official Uefa Euro 2016 game, closely followed by Milanista. Meanwhile, in the FFScout moderators and contributors league, Andy85wsm has a seven-point lead at the summit over second-placed Greenwindmill.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    @footballitalia -
Sky Sport Italia: #Juventus can reject €120m & Paul Pogba doesn't want to leave

Gianluca Di Marzio: Paul Pogba won't push to leave #Juventus , it's agent Mino Raiola who wants #MUFC move for 20% of the fee

Mino Raiola quote: "A player is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay." His job is to find out how much #MUFC WOULD pay Pogba.

It'd be a step down for him. He's flourishing at Juventus and moving there has been working wonders for him. So many agents ruin careers.

Indeed but it's hard to say without seeing prices. Phillips should come in at the 5-6 range I'd say, Townsend a bit above that.

KDB, Mkhi and Firmino will all be 9+ so it's a lot of cash

Despair and joy have to both co-exist. So removing the chances of captain blanks also removes some of the joy of nailing that 15+ captain.

So agree. Great for short tournament but not for the full season.

It's a no from me. Will mean there will be even more template captains and due to the schedules will mean a lot of players will end with the same players due to needing to have a top player to switch to.

For me I like the substitutions. Not overly keen on being able to change captain everyday and think you should only have one captain. It takes the judgement out the game.

I prefer FPL as it is.

It's a no from me. I believe you should set you team up at the start of a GW and that's it. Let teh auto subs and vice captains kick in if needed.

For me it takes the skill out of the game if you can start changing your team during the GW. Plus it would likely mean a lot more people end up with the same players as captain in the end.

I doubt it matters what folk like us think. I'm sure the game developers will be more concerned with the masses than the addicts.

Despite the games popularity, that can be measured in the millions, the game has a problem in keeping all those millions engaged in the game for the duration of a season long campaign.

Any changes to the rules would surely be aimed at an attempt to keep folk engaged....possibly by the use of in game changes.

Chips were a great success for keeping the casuals interested, but I think that replacing captains mid-gameweek would be more likely to cause more of them to give up early.

Actually I don't think the first comment is true. My nephew played TC in GW1, AOA in GW2 and then gave up. Many in my family/friends ML did similar.

I really wouldn't like to see FPL changed very much. Didn't like the changes last time and wouldn't want any more gimmicks.

I wouldn't mind seeing 2 categories of midfielder though. Something that would make DMs like Xhaka worth selecting.

It would be interesting to see how the number of active teams in the later stages of the season compared with previous seasons.

Perhaps some of those who gave up early would have given up anyway, with or without chips. Triple captaining Hazard in GW1 would have been a big disappointment, but those who used them on Man City players in GW1, and thus found themselves with far better early ORs than usual, may well have decided to take the game more seriously as a result.

The chips did introduce a big new random element into the game, and the fact that the early form players largely retained their form and remained injury free made it easier for those whose early use of them was successful to retain their lead over veterans with stronger track records until the late season DGWs. There was also the factor that there were so many bargains that we could sign on all the most in-form players without having to worry about the budget.

I expect next season to be very different, with more successful players at premium prices, and some difficult decisions will have to be made about how many of these, and which ones, we should include in our squads. And if there are more changes of form then we won't just be able to field the same team week after week.

This is only to be taken as a rough guide to activity but in gw38 of 2014/15 there were an average of 0.38 transfers per team, in gw38 of this season there were 0.45 transfers made per team. These values are pretty close but hint at slightly more activity this season. If you go through fpldiscovery ignoring double gameweeks then these numbers track slightly higher for this season than last season throughout the season, but it is only marginal.

              14/15: https://fpldiscovery.wordpress.com/2015/05/24/gw-38-transfers-and-team-selection-2/
              15/16: https://fpldiscovery.wordpress.com/2016/05/15/1516-gw38-team-selection-and-stats/

This image from 14/15 is also quite good for showing how activity decays throughout the season as people lose interest and it seems many teams like Leicester Sharon's never see a transfer ever.

      Yes I have.
      Yes it does.
      Yes I would.

I would also like to see a complete overhaul on the scoring matrix to make all players playable . It's ridiculous that some of the best players in the world, on their possition, aint worth picking.
Fpl is actually quite a horrible game, a small game for the fantasy coach but a big game when it comes to the number of participants. But my guess is that the number of participants are quite misleading. I have no idea about the real numbers, would like to know though, being active from start to end but I don't think there are no more then 20% out of those entering a team hanging in there through to the end.

Not that I think the changes in the rules I'd like to see would make ppl more inclined to see the game through.
My point is rather that FPL is a 'fake', it's about selling advertisement etc. Then 3.5m entered teams looks great.
But how many unique log ins each week is made? From gw1 through to gw38? Is the %age over 50 out of the number of entered teams after gw5, possibly. After christmas, doubt it. How about in gw34 and so on....

I like the mid GW changes in competitions like the Euros where there's a defined structure for which groups play on each day. This doesn't exist in the Premier League and would increase the random element of the game. In FPL it would be horrible, all transfer plans would be reduced to getting a good captain/sub option for the Sunday/Monday games.

    My starting XI.

    I made only 4 transfers.

    Lloris
    Guerreiro Koscielny Sagna Evra Fonte
    Pogba Payet
    Ronaldo Griezmann Giroud
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    Hennessey Renato Sanches Gotze* Draxler*

I am 20 points behind first in the world and I want to give him a run for his money with a 'few' punts. πŸ˜‰ My team for the EURO Final -

    Patricio
    Pepe(c) Fonte Cedric Guerreiro
    Sanches Pogba Payet
    Ronaldo Nani Griezmann

If Pepe scores a goal and Portugal win 1-0 , I will be sooooo happy. πŸ˜›

BAPS are not enough upside when you're covering a 20 point lead. Go Giroud (c) or Nani (c)

Everyone owns Giroud at the top , only a Pepe goal will give me a chance to make up 20 points. I don't see Nani or Giroud scoring a hatty. Pepe only needs to score 1 and keep a CS to match a Nani/Gru hatty and is owned by less managers...

If I wanted to cover , 10-12 points , that would the right move but no way in hell I cover 20 points by captaining an attacker. Captaining Nani/Giroud is safer than captaining Pepe and less ballsy if I want to cover 20 points....

I agree with Lateriser on the Nani captain. You already have a full Portugal defence. Pepe doesn't have much upside.

But I don't want to differentiate by 6/10 points but by 20 points and Nani gives next to no chance for that unless he scores a brace or hatty

Well Ronaldo (c) will have the biggest upside, assuming most will go France and having 5 Portugal defenders being the difference. If Portugal do win it will be because of Ronny's goal input.

Ronaldo will be the 3rd most owned player and 2nd or 3rd most captained player. Not differential enough for someone who needs to close a 20 pt gap. Nani a better bet.

    Evra Koscielny Umtiti Guerreiro
    Payet(C) Pogba R.Sanches
    Greizmann Ronaldo Giroud

Defence is tough too - Toby should be nailed on after last year, but a utd def looks a must with jose tightening things up, same at chelsea with conte, and bellerin/kosc at arsenal justiied 6m+ valuations last year also... V interesting season ahead!

Only hope is Shaw at 5.5m, but doubt it or a regular starting Zouma/Bebe also at 5.5m.

Woke up and read about 3 interesting news:

    1. Pelle of to China - strange as he is still young and could play in big football 2-3 years but.....money
    2. Bacca ver close to West Ham - interesting singing. I will think about get him in my FPL team
    3. Sakho innocent! - he was stolen from EL final and Euro tournament (as he would for sure replace Varane) and the final! ..the law

I suspect Sakho should think himself lucky that is all he missed. Could have been a lot worse

I have never seen the point in this kind of post. Until you know how much people cost how can you put a price on a position.
