We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 campaign, with an assessment of Manchester City.

To kick off, we analyse the team statistics at the Etihad and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before casting an eye over their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects ahead of the new season.

Hopes were high for City’s title challenge after finishing 2014/15 in second spot on a run of six straight wins. It’s fair to say that Manuel Pellegrini’s final year at the helm proved bitterly disappointing, though, after his side just managed to pip rivals United to fourth spot on goal difference, some 16 points behind champions Leicester.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Lost on last page but what is everyone's max price to get Pogba in if he completes Man Utd transfer?

    I'm good with 9.5-10.5m

What was his output for goals/assists in Serie A? Is he actually a decent FPL option?

Last year was his best year with 8G 12A in 35 games, thats after 124 shots and only 39 on goal....I really don't see the hype but I feel Mourinho can make him great.

Not too bad. I worry about his position though, he'd play as one of the 2CM.

I think the money is better spent elsewhere!

You don't really see the hype because of those stats or when you've watched him play? Mourinho doesn't need to make him great, he already is.

He'd be unreal for United. I'd say it would put them right up there for title contenders.

His shots mostly from distance. His long shot conversion rate from last 3 seasons in Serie A is 6.2%, which is reason enough to allow him take those long shots. Last season brought that rate down a lot, though, it was above 10% before it! We'll see if he ups it again, or if 6.2% is his real average, or if this season was normal (having seen him shoot, I doubt the last possibility seriously).

Are you serious? I wouldn't even have him for 8.0m. He would be playing in the double pivot.

      He's staying at Juve anyway.

I'm confident of it. Even if he left we would reinvest the money well and get stronger as a result. When we sold Zidane to Madrid he was the best player in the world and we still got stronger. Pogba isn't the best player in the world.

Don't think it's necessary. We already have the best defence in Europe and our midfield is pretty stacked. Pjaca is close to signing and he looks a great talent. All we really need is a replacement for Morata and we can easily get that without having to sell Pogba.

I think that's way too much. He'd have to be around 7.5m to interest me (based on last season's prices).

Obviously it depends on how they set the price levels this season overall though. Hopefully they won't put all the protection in 7 or 8 players as they did last time.

Agreed. If he was playing in a midfield 3 with license to attack like at Juve I'd be more interested but not in the 2 of a 4-2-3-1.

Yeah. I think he's one of those players that would improve any team significantly yet wouldn't be a great FPL asset.

By the way, if Pogba is valued at £90m then Kante at £28m looks a bargain.

The manager seems to like 2 strikers on previous record.

J-Rod is the player that interests me at Southampton. Will be looking to see how he is used in pre-season.

I'm a bit of an Austin fan myself. 2 up top should help him. As much as I like Long I don't rate him fpl wise.

Austin is a good FPL asset when fit. But he's not reliably fit.

I wouldn't be surprised to see J-Rod play alongside one or other of them.

Puel could play two upfront or Long out wide. If it's only one of them I'd expect it to be Long.

I expect long to be first choice because his form from the end of last season. However Peule played with 2 upfront for Nice so we'll have to see what happens in pre season i guess, I think long and austin could form a deadly partnership for the saints. Dont forget Rodriguez as well.

If they do play two up top. Do you think it will be bad or good for Tadic? On one hand he will have two people to pick out in the box, so he could register even more assists. But on the other hand he will be given more defensive duties and less freedom to roam.

(Reply to Jonty's post on the Blanks/DGWs http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/13551086)

They could minimize the Blanks and Double Gameweeks by doing this:

GW 26 Blanks (League Cup Final) ---> GW 26 midweek (making it a normal Gameweek)

GW 28 Blanks (FA Cup QFs) ---> GW 37 midweek

GW 34 Blanks (FA Cup SFs) ---> GW 34 midweek (making it a normal Gameweek)

So the only Blanks/DGWs we'd get would be a big Blank Gameweek in GW 28 and a big Double Gameweek in GW 37.

Not sure I'm going to play Sky this year, the new redesign is horrid and awkward!

Made a team anyway in 4-5-1 with 3.0m ITB

    Heaton
    Keane Dann Dawson Fuchs
    Mkhi Xhaka Fabregas Noble Eriksen
    Aguero

Cheapest decent strikers are 10.0m+ which leaves me a touch short of a decent 3-5-2 which is annoying. Or leave as is and get Payet in for Noble is my other option.

India in England in 2014 - the whole series was rammed in in under 6 weeks http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-india-2014/engine/series/667693.html

I think India like it that way - more time free then for ODIs/T20

True. England batting atm relies on Cook , Root and Bairstow. Luckily one or more of them usually get a big score.

          For me;

Hales, Cook, Root is a settled top three, we saw today what Root brings to the table as an aggressive No.3 in comparison to the likes of Compton & Ballance who have featured before him. Hales is still in limbo but i'm quite impressed.

Moeen, Bairstow at 4 & 5 will allow both to build sizable innings, being rooted down at 6 & 7 is limiting their potential. Mo bats at #4 for his county, time to give him a chance as almost a pure batsman.

Stokes, Buttler, Woakes at 6, 7 & 8, the true game changers, will come in and take the game away from the opposition, Stokes is a great 4th seamer and Buttler's glovework is better than Bairstow's, for me.

Broad, Anderson obvious picks, plus another seamer(Ball/Finn) or a spinner (Rashid) depending on conditions.

          Anyway, that's just me.

Welcome your opinion Parm. I think Hales is a work in progress and his test batting has improved considerably this summer. Cook and Root are class and Bairstow as well as being technically correct is in fine form. Stokes is the ideal all rounder in the Flintoff mould and the pace bowling is one of the best around with plenty of youngsters coming through. England lack 2 middle batsmen imo and a quality spinner. Good to hear your views !

How many years does he have playing football at the highest level ? . If Leiceter finish 7th or 8th and get knocked out in the Champions League then he has wasted a year . If Leicester have a bad year or he gets injured or 100 other things happen he might have missed his chance to move to a big club . It might be selfish but I can see his perspective

    Note from the first- half.
    DCS United 0-1 Southampton
    James Ward-Prowse goal (no
    assist)
*Southampton set up with a back 4, a diamond midfield and two up front who often drifted wide. Without the ball Tadic playing at the of the diamond moved up into an advanced position with austin on the left and Redmond on the right. It often turned into a 4-3-3 formation without the ball.
    - With Southampton playing a narrow diamond formation both full-backs have a lot of space to exploit. Bertrand or Cedric would be a steal at 5 million.
    - Oriel Romeu was excellent in the way he broke up the play in the first half. He may be a decent bench fodder ecspecially with his threat from corners as well as potential bps from CBI (clearances, blocks & interceptions).
    - Dusan Tadic looks a major goal and assist threat in the number 10 position. He also took inswinging free kicks and corners from the right hand side. He is also expected to be on penalties. He would be a very enticing option @7-7.5 mil IMO.
    - If Nathan Redmond can nail down a place as part of Southampton's front two he has great OOP (out of position) potential, and could become the choice 4th mid to own. However even if he was a regular starter I would expect that long/austin could be subbed on fire him at some point late in the games.
    - There likely to be only room for two of long, austin, Redmond and jay Rodriguez. Southampton's last friendly before the season starts will be an indicator of Edo is likely to get the nod up front.

Yes so do I. Was getting in very advanced roles and also linked up well with the midfield. He had a big opportunity to score a one-on-one but the keeper got down well to save his shot. Lonked up well with full backs Targett and ecspecially Cuco Martina who looked very good attacking-wise.
