Early last week, West Ham confirmed the signing of Besiktas winger Gokhan Tore on a season-long loan, with a view to a permanent move.

The 24-year-old Turkish international will be reunited with Hammers boss Slaven Bilic in east London, having played for him in Turkey, and admitted the lure of working with the Croatian was impossible to resist:

“I am very happy to be at West Ham. I watched many games that they played last season and saw how passionate the fans are. That made me want to come here and I am looking forward to playing in front of them. Slaven was also a big factor in me coming here and he is a great manager. He is the main man and knows me very well. I could not have said no to him. He is the best manager I have worked under and he is like a father to the players. You feel like you are family.”

The History

Born in Cologne, Germany, Tore started his youth career at SV Adler Dellbruck, before moving to Bayer Leverkusen as an 11-year-old. Tore spent six years with Bayer, before being spotted by Chelsea’s Sporting Director Frank Arnesen.

He moved to Stamford Bridge in 2009, but only featured for the reserves, playing an important role in the squad that won the Premier Reserve League in 2010/11.

Tore returned to Germany in the summer of 2011, joining Hamburg. He made 22 league appearances during the 2011/12 campaign, registering six assists, but failed to get on the scoresheet.

A move to Russian side Rubin Kazan in 2012 saw Tore’s career stall briefly, making only five league appearances during 2012/13, before joining Besiktas on a season-long loan in June 2013. The wide man took his chance to impress, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in 30 league matches, and secured a permanent move to the Turkish club in August 2014 for a fee believed to be around €4.5 million.

Over the last two seasons, Tore made 52 league appearances, scoring eight goals and registering 12 assists, and helped the club win the league title for the first time since 2009 last season.

Having represented Turkey at every youth level from Under 15 upwards, Tore made his senior debut against Estonia in August 2011. Despite having made 26 appearances for the national team, Tore has yet to score, although he has registered five assists.

The Prospects

While Tore is comfortable operating on either flank, he’s played the majority of his football on the right wing. He’ll offer competition to the likes of Michail Antonio, Manuel Lanzini and fellow new boy Sofiane Feghouli in the attacking midfield positions, with Dimitri Payet a sure starter for the Irons. The futures of both Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho both look in doubt though, with the latter increasingly linked with a switch to Sunderland.

With both Tore and Feghouli on board, though, the recent comments of West Ham co-chairman David Gold, whish suggest that Bilic considers Antonio one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, lends further weight to the idea that the former Forest man could be utilised in defence next season. Considering he bagged eight goals and seven assists last year, that would be a real source of frustration for Fantasy managers.

Tore, like Feghouli, has lacked an end product to his play – the Turkish international has never scored more than four times in a league season, whilst Feghouli has yet to better the six-goal mark. The pair averaged a shot every 52.2 and 57.2 minutes last term, with Lanzini quicker on 40 minutes.

In terms of creativity, Tore averaged a key pass every 39.5 minutes, which was better than both Feghouli (every 48.4 minutes) and Lanzini (every 58.2 minutes).

It’s expected that Tore will set us back around 7.0 in FPL, with both Lanzini and Feghouli likely to be handed similar price tags. All three will be considerably cheaper midfield options than Payet, but we may need to wait and see who nails down a regular starting berth during the opening weeks of the season before investing.

Lanzini will be unavailable for the opening two Gameweeks due to his involvement in the Olympic tournament though, so Tore and Feghouli should have plenty of opportunities to impress early on – particularly if Payet is eased back into action following his Euro 2016 exertions.

Although the Hammers’ opening fixtures (che, BOU, mci, WAT, wba) are mixed, Bilic’s side will have little fear for those trips to Chelsea and Man City, given they scored twice in each of the corresponding matches in 2015/16.

If Payet is fully fit and raring to go, it’s difficult to look beyond a player that averaged 5.7 points per game last term, though the Hammers’ free-flowing attack may ultimately provide us with value alternatives to the Frenchman.

Antonio can’t be ruled out altogether, though, and could potentially be utilised on the right of midfield if the Hammers go with a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 set-up. Indeed, Bilic utilised a wing-back system on a number of occasions in the second half of last season.

More of a creator than a scorer, it remains to be seen whether Tore can emerge as a viable option, though with the likes of Payet and Feghouli also capable of a killer pass, it may be that our attentions could turn to Carlos Bacca, if Bilic can acquire the AC Milan striker as his preferred option to Andy Carroll up front.

Don't they do that every now and then? Imo, they maybe should. Last year's definition left the assist decisions largely at the discretion of FPL towers. A clearer rule would be nice.

Bonus calculations maybe - assuming they will still be transparent. But that probably wouldn't influence my initial selection. Plus they always tinker a little with the price change rules - but we never know about those anyway until the codebreakers get to work.

I'd say there's almost no chance they bring in captain switches to FPL. Perhaps they'll do another type of UFPL one day but I can't see captain switches in the normal game

Personally would prefer if they kept the prices to themselves until the website was ready. Early price releases reminds me of peeking under the wrapping paper of presents under the tree at Christmas.

The twitter prices last season were by Mark Rogers, who is not an FPL spokesman, although he tried to give the impression that he was.
This time around, he does not appear to have obtained any leaked information.

Yeah Xbox one. Tend to play with a full squad and we are all low to high golds apart from one. I don't tend to play very many games apart from Siege on it. I pick a game and stick at it till i get bored, or till another better game comes along.

Will palace buy benzene today? Steve Parish (palace chairman) is just waiting for fpl to open to get 3 palace players plus benzene so he can have 4 palace after he buys him.
Come on fpl, hurry up and open, I want a striker who can score at my team.

Surely FPL Towers will want to build the hype and interest before launch.

There is no way from a marketing perspective I would launch today without having done significant teasers and hyping in the prior days.

I would expect a couple of days before launch, with hype being built from today .

      Why?

They could launch now and those that are sad/keen enough will sign up as soon as it opens. They can then begin marketing it and drumming up further sign-ups. Doing it this way also spreads out the load on the site rather than having tens of thousands signing up at the same time

The thing about fantasy football is that yes, it is a "virtual football game", but it's so closely linked to a real life sport that it's impossible to play it so seriously and not learn a lot about the real game at the same time.
I think (basing this on myself, really) that hardcore fantasy players are also hardcore football fans - which is a little less sad than "virtual football game" fans. Could be wrong though.

I guess that's a question for wider society, rather than myself. I (clearly) don't think it's sad to play Fantasy, nor do I think it's sad that I play Destiny/Fifa/Football Manager for several hours a week. Lots of people DO think that's sad though, just as they do about grown men running around playing Pokemon. I wasn't really trying to portray my own opinion that it's "sad", just conveying the prevailing attitude in society. Maybe I'm way off the mark here, perhaps society believes that playing Pokemon or Destiny are productive and worthwhile uses of your time.

What I do think is pretty sad though, is that it takes a Pokemon game to get people out of the house exercising!
You get these people saying things like "this game is brilliant, it got me out of the house... something the threat of an early grave and a lifetime of health issues couldn't achieve". Completely beyond me, but each to their own.

I personally prefer being able to leave my gaming at home when I switch off my Playstation, it's nice having a little retreat in to VR when I feel like it, rather than LIVING in VR. Each to their own though, again.

As long as it's getting people out the house!

I personally go to the gym and play football regularly, but I think the whole concept is brilliant. And I love Pokemons, used to be addicted when I was younger. I'm sure it's a fad and it'll die soon but I like it.

Yeah same here, I prefer the actual gym over Pokegym's (is that the right term?) - chicks prefer it too hahaha.

I think the whole augmented reality concept is really cool too, very impressive, albeit a little scary.

Yeah I guess you're right man, it might be a bit of a weird way to get people out exercising, but if it's working then who am I to knock it?

Everyone I know my age (early 20s) is playing it because we were the ones that grew up loving playing the game.

I didn't say it was sad playing "virtual football games". What I find sad is people that spend so much time playing a game making fun of others for playing other games.

If you have 200M to make your team, what would it looks like?

    Hart, Courtois
    Azpiliqueta, Shaw, Bellerin, Alderweireld, Moreno
    KDB, Mikhitarian, Mane, Alexis, Payet
Aguero, Sturridge, Ibrahimovic or Higuain (at Arsenal)

Too be hones, it's not so easy to pick just 15 players (Cech, Ozil, Hazard, Mahrez, Vardy, Firmino, Mata, Alli, Kane etc.)
Downgrade 1 GK, 2 def, 2 mid, 1 att and you have your team 😉

He's a terrible defender and I really don't think his attack is that great. Put another way, he was under Klopp and given license to bomb forward but still got barely anything for that. I'm still waiting for them to buy a new left back to be honest.

After some earlier problems, Liverpool appeared to be controlling his behaviour pretty well while he was with them, but they couldn't control him while he was away on international duty with Uruguay.
And that third bite whilst playing for Uruguay was just one misdemeanour too far.

The Liverpool fans and players loved him (although he didn't love Brendan Rogers), and the previous season he eventually decided that he was happy to remain at Liverpool after Arsenal's bid was rejected.

Barcelona would of course be far harder to resist, but Liverpool would have fought much harder to retain him or at least to get a much bigger transfer fee if it hadn't been for that third bite.

As above - we used to see each other all the time so it was easier to collect (and we don't play for a lot)

Can someone talk me through how Hazard is over Lewandoski and Godin in this UEFA list? Please.

I thought the top 10 was pretty good. But to be honest any of us could have come up with it. In fact I think many of us could do a better list than them!

Top 10 is "almost" a given

Ignoring the Grigg placing I found Renato Sanches equal ranking with Neymar laughable

All these Uefa and Fifa lists are just pointless.. Just look at the Fifa world rankings list.. Belgium 2nd best team in the world, Columbia 3rd... best not to take much notice from them!

Hazard is one of the best plyers in the world Lewandowski hit some form and scored some tap ins

He is, but it's done on this season. No? He had a truly horrendous season

Lewandoski scored 47 in 63 this season.

I've seen Hazard play maybe 2/3 good matches this last season gone, scandalous that he is even near the list.

This list is and always was a joke!
When U see list of golden ball players last year and who vote for who you would be laugh.
Hazard this year should be aroud 100th place.

Mourinho affect at United - Will it be essential to own at least 1 Man Utd defender this season?

      Essential is a bit far...

Agreed. Is a good option but so is Chelsea defender!

it will be hard to find in a Chelsea and Utd defender considering the price they will be.

    I'm thinking going with

    Courtois/McCarthy

    Nyom/Azpi/Johnson/Olsson/Friend

    Coutinho/KdB/Sigurdsson/Townsend/4.5

    Kun/Kane/Rhodes

    thoughts lads?

You might JUST afford this, if that's what you meant?

If you're looking for advice on picks, rather than asking whether this team is affordable...
Where are the Arsenal & United players? Personally I'd be looking to downgrade Kane a little, to afford Ozil or Mkhi - likely at the expense of Coutinho.
I also don't like to "double up" on defensive options, so I'd be looking to change one of your Chelsea picks to either Man City, United, Arsenal, or maybe even Liverpool/Everton on a punt.
Not sure if Rhodes will get starts every week, though he is a very very good player (I follow the Championship, and he's scored against my team more times than I'd like!!). Gray might be a better option.

Don't think Arsenal will do well, looking to transfer them in when they have an easy run of fixtures in October.

Not on the Mkhi bandwagon. Reckon a few midfield options will do better than him come May.

Chelsea double up could change, probably will come the GW1 deadline. Least settled on the third striker slot, Gray might be overpriced due to the hype surrounding him.

You know, FPL could be using the 10 day French Republican Calendar, so it could launch next Tuesday or Wednesday.

Tbf, the information they'd released would be like, "Puncheon, Mirallas and Charlie Adam are all 5.5 this year."

I'm not demanding that they should do it. Just what I think they would do. And they've released prices before the games launched many times. 🙂
