We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

      Fabregas' form from last season puts me off him. There are better options than Heaton and if you change up for Butland (who would have been top ranked gk last season barring injury) you have a very 9.5 gk combo.

        Thanks for the input guys. Reckon Fabregas should be fairly nailed, but it doesn't neccesarily mean he's a good pick. Not sure who I'd rather get in that price range.

        I agree that Butland is a better standalone pick than Heaton, but from what I've seen Heaton seems to be the one rotation best with Foster, which is why I've picked him:p

    Has anyone seen the squad Mourino has taken with him to Asia? Doesn't include Zlatan.

    A lot of united fans are speculating that he may not get full games/bought specifically for Europe.

    I was 100% set on the man but this is a worry, no?

          They all dropped to the bench because they were struggling. Quite different to being brought in with the bench in mind.

          Zlatan might get rotated a bit but he'll certainly be first choice.

      I can't see a 4231. A double pivot is typically an inefficient use of space, and Pep is all about using space well.

      I'd guess, at this stage, a 433.

    Am I foolish to plan a team based on the best players for GWs 1-3 with the intention to WC after international break?

    Should be able to kill the first 3 GWs and get a solid, fit, more knowledgeable team after the break.
    With my luck this would be the one year I'm not killed early by injuries and bench roles.

      Can't believe he's flying under the radar here.

      Playing for one of the best defences in the league.
      Better conversion rate than most top players (including Ronaldo)
      On most setpieces for his team.
      Best left foot in the league.

      All packaged into a 5 mil defender named Christopher Brunt.

        Turns 32 this year and has suffered cruciate ligament rupture in February, never quite coming back from that
