We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Stoke City.

To get up and running, we delve into the Potters’ data and compare them to the rest of the Premier League, before assessing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look for some pointers ahead of the upcoming 2016/17 campaign.

Despite finding the net on 41 occasions, Mark Hughes’ side still finished in ninth position for the second successive season. Although they mustered just three points less than 2014/15 – picking up 51 points – it’s fair to say that the Potters’ threat in the final third took a turn for the worse in a season that saw just nine of their players find the net.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Any Wildcard plans out there? Can't see any exciting fixture swings at the first 2 international breaks (GW4 and GW8) so thinking it might be best to wait and see and not bring Wildcarding into our plans for the initial squad.

That being said, there's a lot up in the air with new management at a lot of the big teams!

Liverpool's arsenals, stokes & west hams fixtures in particular take a turn for the good.
Mufc, Mcfc and chelsea'sfixtures worse .
Will be releasing an article on https://fpldazzyblog.wordpress.com later today on this matter

Lots of assumptions being made that Martial will only be LW under Mourinho...

He was signed as a striker, and Mou isn't LvG. Just saying..

He might go defensive vs Pep.

Ok, my point: when did Mourinho last start with 2 up? I'm sure he's done that sometime, but was that even on this decade?

Now that I think of it, his Inter often played with 2 upfront in Italy, with Sneijder behind Eto'o and Milito. But that was last decade.

That's my point though, he's a very adaptive manager when it comes to tactics, he would often change tactics mid-game at Madrid, or roll out extremely defensively one week against tough opposition and then go ultra-attack the next week vs Getafe. He'll play the players that suit the gameplan he wants to enforce, which might not be the same every week.

I'm not saying there'll be loads of rotation, but one or two positions might not be stable. Mkhit could play LW, CAM, RW... Rooney could get a game up top with Zlatan.. Mata might be CAM.. Nobody knows yet everyone is assuming it's set in stone that:

                Mkhit - Rooney - Martial
                Ibra

      DDG
      RB Smalling Bailly Shaw
      CDM Pogba
      Mikhitaryan Rooney Martial
      Ibra

United will line up like this for the majority of the games. Rashford back up ST, not martial.

Ok, but my point was you're still only assuming. It's far from a foregone conclusion he plays the same formation as LvG and even if he does, his tactics will be completely different.

You're assuming he changes his tried and tested formation? Of course he can, there is so many variables. But its unlikely imo. If Depay hits form (who knows) then maybe mourinho will push martial forward to fit them both in

They're completely different in that while LVG hogs possession, Mourinho avoids it. But other than that, it's been an ultra-defensive 4-2-3-1 for Mourinho for years now, which sounds just like the "LVG formation".

There are so many possibilities at the moment though.. Martial might be reserved for a sub striker role behind Ibra, which would be a waste, but maybe Mou wants to play Depay / Mata / Fellaini / Herrera / Mkhitaryan / etc in those 3 attacking positions? What if Rooney is a CF behind Ibra, then Mkhit and Mata could flank them?

Everyone on FFS seems assured that Martial is a LW and will only ever play LW. He's no Hazard, he's well able to lead the line.

Don't put me in that last group. I've been telling people that he's a CF from the beginning.

Much prefer him as a striker and I think he'll end up replacing Zlatan next year as their main man up front. But for that to happen he has to get chances up front, something Mkhit won't get (albeit with more risk of rotation probably)

...but I can see Mourinho sticking Martial to that left wing, because Mou's got a few other guys to take the lonely striker spot and Martial is not the poacher type that Mou prefers upfront, but has both the defensive and attacking qualities to play exactly the role Mourinho wanted Hazard to play. And I can well see him being Mourinho's favourite player as a LW.

If he starts he could be a great option

The thing was Palace delivered a huge amount of crosses last night - from Mutch, Fryers, and Townsend. The problem was they had no target. Ladapo was no presence at all. If Palace do go for Benteke he will fit right in with this style. Watch this space.

Thoughts on S'oton's formation under Puel? Based on match versus DC United's under 23s it should be 4-3-1-2, just like at Nice. So in some way we could project that Puel is going to emulate style of play that served him well back at Ligue 1.
Tadic roaming from position just like Barfa did could be a potential bargain of the season.

    Thoughts?

I think the formation is all but certain... The 4-3-1-2 lacks width and underuses players like Redmond.
IMO puel's playing two strikers in preseason only to assess his options

Don't agree. They lazy wingers. Have a few good strikers + Redmond who can also play that position. They have many midfielders & Oriel Romeu who looked very good defensively. Bertrand and ecspecially Cedric would be very much does to the wing-back roles

    4.5 | 4.0
    5.0 5.0 4.5 4.5 (4.0)
    KDB - Mkhi - Martial - Fabregas (4.5)
    Aguero - Costa (4.5)

City, Utd and Chelsea fixtures look good - latest idea is doubling up MCI/MUN/CHE attackers for the first 3 GWs before WC.

Would I be better off swapping Fabregas/Martial for Sigurdsson/Mahrez instead?

you're carrying a dead weight there for me having to play a 4.5 every week (there are no 4.5 strikers who will start a match)

I would downgrade martial to siggy and make one of your 4.5 players a 6.5 one

Yeah I agree, if I was planning long term then I would avoid having a 4.5FWD - but this team would only be for 3GWs, I'd be playing 442 if I did this.

fair enough, but even for three weeks it seems like madness to me - what if wilson or gray score 3/4 goals in first two fixtures - price will soar to 7m and you'll have nowhere to go to move them in.

game is also about being able to make transfers easily

Yep, good point - I don't really like having benched players racking up points though, I'd rather have that value in my team. I'll think about it. If Benteke goes to Palace I could maybe have Bolasie and Palace and play 343 GW1&3, that could work...cheers.

"regarded by many as the best left-back in the Championship, the £100,000 signing from Doncaster is a fans’ favourite. “Handsome George” suffered a dip in performance last season but is still considered a superb prospect. An aggressive, intelligent reader of the game, Friend registered 2.5 interceptions per match with 2.3 tackles won. He can also bomb forward to provide width, although his end product could be better. An assured starter and a potential ever-present, Friend could challenge Ayala for bonus potential if he can improve his attacking output."

Expect to start upfront (if Arsenal don't mange to buy a striker till then, which is, alas, probable) as giroud won't be fit. Thats to see if Wenger prefers him or Walcott

Anyone know why the name changes to your personal details don't show up on the main screen or leagues? It's still showing my old user name from last year and I usually change it to something amusing.

Right now I'm stuck on Club In-Administration

I like to think I won't need that user name again for a few weeks...

      3-5-2

Shaw - Wollsheid - Sagna (Monreal - Van Aanholt)
      Martial - Siggy - Townsend - Bojan - Mahrez
      Aguero - Gray (Carroll)

Defence eating a lot. Paying 6m for a defender, you would want to play him every week, especially now that funds are tight at the start.

I want Monreal all season, but I fancy Liverpool to score hence why I benched him.

You'll still have every week a 5m+ defender on your bench. Waste of money imo.

Departure of their main creative player in Ritchie, plus rumours of Howe being involved in the Enngland set up... though despite that I'm inclined to agree with you I'd go Wilson over Gray. Though it's only a small sample size he did score 5 in 9 starts in the prem last year.

A cheap striker from a proven attacking side, with decent chances of G/A from set-pieces or open play

IMO better shot than cheaper strikers from promoted teams, as we can't predict their game-plans.

If he's on set pieces, he could emulate the good ol days of assists. But yeah he's got a bit to prove after last season
