David Moyes wins his first match in charge at Sunderland, Jordan Mutch continues Crystal Palace’ unbeaten summer run and Middlesbrough cruise to victory in the Spanish sun.

Here’s the latest from a low-key day of action…

Stade Nyonnais 0 Sunderland 2

Two penalties from Duncan Watmore handed David Moyes his first win as the new Sunderland manager blooded eight Academy players.

Watmore, priced at 5.0 and listed as a midfielder in the official Fantasy Premier League game, was used up front as Jermain Defoe missed the match with a niggle.

As highlighted in our Budget Midfielder article, Watmore could offer great value if he is deployed in advanced positions by Moyes, and he did his case for a forward berth no harm in Switzerland.

He earned the first penalty himself and slotted home the second just before half-time following a foul on George Honeyman.

Moyes recalled Billy Jones and Lee Cattermole after they recovered from minor knocks and fielded Jack Rodwell as a makeshift centre-half, but otherwise used his more senior players sparingly in the hot Alpine conditions.

Sunderland XI: Mannone, Jones, Ledger, Rodwell (J Robson 46), T Robson (Borini 76), Cattermole (N’Zogbia 46), E Robson, Honeyman (Van Aaanholt 76), Gooch (Khazri 76), Watmore (Asoro 64), Greenwood (Lens 76).

Colchester United 0 Crystal Palace 1

Jordan Mutch’s sweet strike from a Jason Puncheon assist made it three straight pre-season wins for Palace.

Alan Pardew gave 20 players a run-out and, having trialled a 3-5-2 in the previous friendly, opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation with Connor Wickham as the lone striker supported by Andros Townsend, Puncheon and Yannick Bolasie, who managed just under 60 minutes in his first start of the summer.

Mutch and Hiram Boateng anchored the midfield and Pardew gave Alex McCarthy the full 90 minutes in goal.

Wilfried Zaha, James Tomkins, Bakary Sako and James McArthur all missed out, with Pardew confirming pre-match:

”They just have minor knocks that they’re not really ready for the game, so we’ll see how they are on Wednesday ahead of Wimbledon.”

Crystal Palace XI: McCarthy, Ward, Dann (Kelly 70), Delaney (Croll 70), Fryers (Binnom-Williams 78), Boateng (Jedinak 59), Mutch (Ladapo 85), Puncheon (Lee 59), Bolasie (Kaikai 59), Townsend (Berkeley-Agyepong 70), Wickham (Campbell 45).

Middlesbrough 2 Al-Ahli 0

Middlesbrough ended their time in southern Spain with a 2-0 win over Saudi champions Al-Ahli.

Second half goals from David Nugent and a fine individual strike from Julien de Sart sealed the victory for Aitor Karanka’s team.

Viktor Fischer provided the assist for Nugent’s goal, with Karanka again using the Danish international winger in the No10 position, although he later partnered Nugent in attack.

Eleven changes were made for the final 20 minutes, with Alvaro Negredo and Jordan Rhodes used up front, and Karanka also experimented by deploying left winger Adam Reach as a full-back as he seeks cover for first-choice left back George Friend.

The coach was happy enough with his side’s Spanish trip, saying:

“We have three weeks to fix one or two things. We still need players like Dani Ayala to recover – I don’t think Grant (Leadbitter) will be ready – but it’s good that we have three weeks to work at home.”

Centre-half Ayala, who has not featured in pre-season due to an ankle injury, is still ‘a week to 10 days’ away from selection, Karanka added.

Middlesbrough XI: Konstantopoulos (Mejias 70), Nsue (Barragan 70), Baptiste (Morris 70), Jackson (Gibson 70), Reach (Friend 70), Forshaw (Clayton 70), De Sart (de Roon 70), Stuani (Ramirez 70), Fischer (Negredo 70), De Pena (Adomah 70), Nugent (Rhodes 70).

Who would you choose from Chelsea's 7.5 midfielders?
    a) Oscar
    b) Willian
    c) Fabregas

Fabregas has the most fantasy upside. Oscar isn't nailed on and Willian isn't a great fantasy player.

      Honestly, none

Best to wait and see how Conte lines up unless you wanna go for big hitters I think

But if I had to choose, I would choose Willian- as I feel Oscar may be marginalised and although cesc has great potential in the right system, he may not influence the game as much if he is stationed in one of the two holding midfield spots

Quite happy with my team, although I am planning on WCing GW3 with the team selected accordingly. So only only looking at the first 3 fixtures.

How does this line up of defenders look for the first 3 weeks?

    GW1

    Foster (cry)
Morgan (hul) Dann (WBA) Naylor (bur)

    GW2

    Foster (EVE)
Dawson (EVE) Kone (MID) Naylor (HUL)

    GW3

    Foster (MID)
Dawson (MID) Morgan (HUL) Dann (BOU)

"If Jose says he is not going to play him in centre midfield and he is playing up front and scoring goals for Manchester United then it would be pointless me bringing him into England and playing him in centre midfield." - BFS

Sounds like Rooney will be up top for England again.

I'm in total agreement with Sam. I'm not enthused by his appointment at all, but he is at least making the right noises. If Jose wants to play Rooney at no.10 then his competition for an England spot is with the likes of Alli and Barkley, and we shouldn't be shoe-horning him in anywhere else if either of these two are performing better than him.

    A new philosophy under Koeman?

The Dutchman enjoyed a 3-0 win at Barnsley in his first game as Everton manager, with many fans already noticing a more positive, direct style of play - one fan noted: "I saw more balls down the channels in 90 minutes than in two years under Roberto Martinez."

Koeman said: "A full-back has two options - play the ball back to the goalkeeper or play it down the channels [to the forwards].

"I don't like the first option."

He's started a couple of friendlies but whether he is going to start in the PL is another story. People have him in since he has started those games but we will know more in the latter pre-season games as to what koeman sees as his first team

Keep the fans happy getting linked to serious players. Make them think Arsenal have some serious interest in trophies when all they want is top 4 for the CL money, then go out on a whimper like every year.

Profit over trophies. It's the Arsenal way.

Chilwell looks like he will give Fuchs a run for his money at left back this season, he has been great so far in pre-season. I'm not expecting Fuchs to play every game this year, especially near cup/european ties. Saying that I thought Chilwell would get more of a look in last season too. But, we have rejected some massive bids for him recently (considering he hasn't played a single PL minute). I don't think he would stay if he wasn't given playing time assurances.

Zalar. What is going on with your crazy posts? 2 whole teams missing and now a random assortment of 3 players.

      Juhuuuuuu!

Hope he takes freekicks and penalties from Lukaku, Baines and Mirallas. Would be the perfect Everton asset rolled into one for the modest price of 7.5m

Re-signing for Stoke apparently. Fingers crossed because I think it'll rule both him and Mirallas out with rotation.

cool. not wasting time on it at the moment...to many balls up in the air still....Mahrez/Tekkers/Lolkaku/Arnie/Siggy/Bony etc.

Things can and will change a lot.

I have a couple that's not going anywhere though.

As I've said before, probably Nordtveit until a replacement such as Rico Henry or Charlie Taylor signs

    Hennessey / Jakupovic
    Shaw / Soure / Stones / Azpi / Friend
    Hazard / KDB / Ayew / Grujic / Hjolberg
    Aguero / Lukaku / Gray

Relatively happy with this but thinking I could go slightly stronger in the midfield?

    Morning All

Id be lying if i said the below is a first draft.....

    Foster (Jakupovic)
Bellerin – Friend - Shaw (McAuley, Pieters)
Ozil – Alli - Siggy - Payet (Fletcher)
    Kane – Carroll - Lukaku

    Concerns:
    No City players…
    Not having Ibra
Is Kane a set and forget captain pick?

If you changed Kane to Aguero, what change would you make to free up the 2m needed?
If you changed Lukaku to Ibra, what change would you make to free up the 2.5m needed assuming you keep Kane in the side.

Hi guys. Please rate my first draft! Be honest 🙂

    Schmeichel - Jaku
Shaw Pieters Taylor - McAuley/Souare Paredes
    Hazard Mkhitaryan Özil Sigurdsson Fischer
    Aguero Gray - Wilson
