Dugout Discussion – Hull vs Leicester

Spare a thought for Mike Phelan.

Already the Hull City caretaker manager seems to be unfurling the white flag, even before Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez get their first run at his patched-up defence.

The first Dugout Discussion of the Premier League season could witness one of the most one-sided opening fixtures in memory.

Champions Leicester turn up at the KCOM Stadium off the back of the FA Community Shield defeat to Manchester United but surely still brimming with confidence and optimism following the triumphant campaign.

Certainly they bring plenty of talent and pace – heightened by the presence of Ahmed Musa and Demarai Gray on their teamsheet. That might just prove too much, even for a spirited Hull City showing.

Stranger things have happened, though. Just ask Claudio Ranieri.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Vardy was terrible.

    Mahrez was non existent but like all good premos on pens got a consolation goal to keep the points ticking.

    Musa was very good in the first half and should have had two assists after laying two goals on a plate for his rubbish teammates. In the second half he looked to tire a little but still linked well with others on occasions and could probably have been more selfish instead of constantly looking for Vardy.

    For me personally Vardy is out as planned anyway, Mahrez stays, and Musa is on the watch list as I think points will come soon for him.

      Would rather ship Mahrez than Vardy actually. At least Vardy was on the right spot. Mahrez was just invisible

    I picked a double Leicester defence to try and counter any Vardy haul as I couldn't fit him in.

    They certainly did that.

    Vardy had an off day today. No doubt about that. But he will score plenty this season. Its all he does in a game and I don't see that stopping after one bad performance.

      Time will tell but I'm not sure he's a negative effect on Vardy. First game together and on another day Musa would have laid on two assists for Vardy if he'd found his shooting boots.

        They were hardly sitters. He did nothing wrong with the first one, it was well blocked, and the second one was certainly a good chance, but would have been called a good finish if he kept it down and scored.

      The fpl website has them, Snodgrass 3, Diomande 2, Mahrez 1. At the bottom of the page where it shows the fixtures click the game you want and youll see whos on bonus
