Chelsea’s stars of 2014/15 rise to the occasion at Stamford Bridge as both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard deliver goals to earn Antonio Conte a victory in his first Premier League outing. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 1.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s spot-kick was hugely significant, not least because it saw Hazard deliver in Gameweek 1, but also because it appears to confirm him as Chelsea’s designated penalty taker. That’s something of a puzzle given that Oscar took one in pre-season with Hazard on the pitch. Now with penalties secured, Hazard’s stock, like that of Riyad Mahrez, has enjoyed a major boost.

Diego Costa
Owned by just 7% of FPL managers, Costa’s fine winning strike rolled us back to the 2014/15 campaign and offered a reminder of his clinical finishing ability. His future at Chelsea is far from assured but if he can hint at returning to his debut season strike rate, he may yet enter our thinking. However, an early booking and a reckless challenge on Adrian also demonstrated just why we have to show extreme caution.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spanish full-back has significantly improved his attacking game and is now offering just as much from the left as Branislav Ivanovic on the right. Unlike the Serb, Azpilicueta’s starting role has rarely come under question and with no rival for his position, he continues to stand out as the key option in Antonio Conte’s defence. Tonight’s assist and bonus only underlined that further.

James Collins
Slaven Bilic opted for the Welsh warhorse over Angelo Ogbonna, potentially unlocking a 4.5 option in West Ham’s backline. That already brought Collins to our attention, even before his dramatic blast from a West Ham corner. A start against AFC Bournemouth should be guaranteed but it remains if he can hold off Ogbonna in the long-term.

In Decline

Andre Ayew
The Ghanaian’s West Ham bow lasted just 34 minutes before he gave way with a thigh problem. That was a blow to his 9.5% ownership who must now wait anxiously to see if he can recover for Sunday’s potentially profitable meeting with the Bournemouth defence. With Payet a likely starter, Bilic won’t need to take a risk with his new signing.

Michail Antonio
Charged with containing Hazard, he was always in for a testing evening. Seemingly consigned to a right-back role with Bilic collecting options on the flanks, Antonio was hooked shortly after conceding the early second-half penalty. His start against AFC Bournemouth could be in doubt – his fragility against top class opponents certainly isn’t, nor is his reluctance to continue as a full-back.

Sofiane Feghouli
The 5.5 midfield option is another in the West Ham treatment room. He missed tonight’s encounter with a hamstring problem which materialised in training according to Bilic.

Oscar
We thought he was on spot-kicks, clearly he is not. That’s a major dent to his appeal and with Cesc Fabregas breathing down his neck, the Brazilian’s owners will rarely be able to rest easy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've got Ayew and I'm looking at replacements, although with price changes being really slow I'm in no rush and hopefully we'll get more news. I have Redmond already. Currently leaning towards Tadic, just for the security.

    A) Tadic, exciting, key man for his team, but fixtures are meh
    B) Townsend, not exactly reliable, fixtures are good though and he's shooting a lot
    C) Lamela, not guaranteed 90 minutes, good fixtures and good player

I think Tadic will score the most points, but Lamela if you have Redmond already and need a spurs player.

I have Ayew, Tadic and Townsend already, and I think I'll try to wait for more news before transfering Ayew. If you want to make the switch I'd go with Tadic.

I will probably post this every week as I don't know how FPL are going to present these now that they aren't on FFS. I found using ICT to be a very successful and useful tool last year, especially when wanting to know whether my players that blanked deserve another week.

Him and Valencia got huge hauls throughout April and May but they almost went unnoticed.

The ICT index has gone, the season ticker is now basically on the FPL site and the app, rate my team has not been updated yet and isn't working properly, and the new FPL twitter account is just making it even easier whilst driving people towards certain players instead of just doing goals, assists, bonus etc.

Hazard for me, more expensive yeah, but on pens (for now), seems to be getting his confidence back too.

Oscar, Willian, Pedro are all alike in my eyes for FPL - not consistent enough to warrant that kind of spend for me.

I may be missing something, but is there a way to see the breakdown of what a player has scored? I'm on the desktop site, but all I can see is a player's previous season history and their form, GW1 total, Overall Total, Price and TSB. I can't see how many points they got for a goal, clean sheet or bonuses.

Does anyone know how Gray/Burnley played the other day?

Seem to be some good options around 6.5/7m

Interested to see some replies on this one.

I saw MOTD and he had a couple good chances which is promising.

Apparently he played well contrary to what I first heard, sharp and had chances. Still torn on whether to draft in Carroll for (BOU).

I´m going to stick. 1 gw only gone. Can´t expect a 6.5 striker to score every week.

        This

I'm a little worried about Burnley's history tho - historically scoring in the PL...

I have Gray, going to stick at least 2 more

Safest Liverpool Midfielder out of Coutinho / Firmino / Mane?

    Guessing it'd be Coutinho

Best option in my eyes is Mane - I'd been locked on him all summer but switched to Firmino 🙁

Still, not unhappy because I think Firmino will do well. Just not as well as Mane.
If I were picking now, I'd definitely pick Mane.

Firmino is the most reliable one imo. Coutinho has the habit of scoring big one game and then disappear for weeks.

Actually quite the opposite... 7 of his 8 goals last season were delivered in 2 3 week streaks. But last season was weird for everyone so who knows.

Coutinho seems to score in 3/4 week bursts though..

Long term probably Firm or Mane for explosive

    Hi lads,

    2 questions!

    1) Play Foster (EVE) or Jaku (swa)

    2) Play 3 from the following: Shaw (SOU) Stones (sto) Amat (HUL) Kone (MID) Friend (sun)

    Hi guys,

I've seen people here switching Gray for Negredo. Why no love for Rondon? I think he has more consistency and arguably plays in a better team than Boro.

What do you think of him?

Think he'll be consistent but WBA are a defensive side. When was the last time we saw a killer striker under Pulis? Srs question

The 3 WBA strikers scored 15 goals between them last season. Not impossible for one like Rondon to match that on his own if he plays week in week out.

Not heavy enough for ff and plays for a team that puts more focus on D than attack.

Not a bad start and thinking of keeping my GW transfer.
Question: Worth moving Paredes now for one of the Swansea 4.0 defenders likely to play?

    Foster
    Morgan - Stones - Friend
    Walcott - Mahrez - Lamela - Redmond
    Aguero - Ibra - Gray

    Jakupovic - Evans - Townsend - Paredes

      For Short Term, Yes..
For Long term no. as Swansea are looking for replacement ..
Also kingsley might be replaced by N. Taylor as he is first choice and might have been rested due to Euros exertion..

Similar to mine. I´m thinking maybe Stones->Williams for Eve fixs... Then again might make sense to save the transfer.

The new site is missing loads of useful data points. I wish they offered an API for their stats so we could make content that's actually useful. The way player data is presented is 100% style over substance. Poor design in my opinion. Shame as the new branding is great, but they've ignored usefulness.

    First time FPL player here...

So, raked up 63 points in GW1 and should have been more with late Shaqiri + Coutinho transfers and the fact that I thought team wins counted as well and picked no players facing each other. Well well 🙂

    Thoughts on potential transfers?

    ITB: 1.5

    Gea - Stekelenburg

    Stone - Byram - Targett - Shaw - Oxford

    Willian - Bolasie - Firmino - Silva - Redmond

    Aguero - Negredo - Musa

    Have been looking at:

    - Carrol for Musa
    - Oxford/Byram for alt defender
    - Silva for alt. midfielder

Inputs appreciated for the rookie! 🙂

Byram came in as Substitute at 52 minutes for Masuaka.. not sure of the reason by might start next week..
I believe Oxford should be first priority to ship out ..
Silva is fine for now or can be replaced with Hazard / Martial..
Since you are not doing WC.. would not suggest more than 4 point hit ..

      1. Sauzée

Byram came on for Antonio as he was having a shocker.

The three suggestions above should be viewed as 3 scenarios, not that I am considering a 8 point hit... 🙂

          On Musa/Silva:

I see better value than Silva in other players, some of them for less money. (This I realised after looking more in to the game/analysis after GW1 deadline).

On Musa it was a gamble as he has been playing well in pre-season. However I think he will be played on the left in the upcoming games and less likely to score. With Arsenal coming up I do not see much magic happening from his side.

          @SAUZEE! & Luca Toni

Thanks for inputs. Oxford was a cheap gamble while most media expected Byram to start against Chelsea.
          Guess I could gamble with:
          Stones - Byram - Shaw

Either on the club's official website or on here. For weekend games the pressers are on the Thur/Fri before. The times will be listed as a hot topic and all relevant news or quotes will be found on the scout tweets.
