Suspensions and late transfer window deals left many of our community’s best-laid plans in tatters.

Our hot topic posters sift through the cinders of a fiery transfer deadline day and the knock-on effect on wildcards wielded over the international break.

Meanwhile, our community articles look back at a disastrous set of predictions for the Scouts last weekend. Our Members tables focus on attacking defenders and midfield maestros and we also take a look at those best placed to cope with evolving team sheets at the top of our community competitions.

The Community Articles

Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s lack of goals last weekend meant our Scout predictions were less than successful during Gameweek 3, according to Andy85wsm’s latest look at our crystal ball gazing skills.

One of our Spot the Differentials of the near future is likely to be Stoke’s new loan signing Wilfried Bony, who has joined from Manchester City. Zlatan Time, is among our community writers who thinks Stoke boss Mark Hughes has done very well to nab the former Swansea star.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Transfer deadline day proved an eventful one for the community, with rotation and relegation looming large over some teams. Our hot topic the day after the deadline closed looked at the impact of the new arrivals and departures on our plans.

The search for cheap goalkeepers was among the key issues, with Hull’s successful recruitment of David Marshall seemingly sounding the death knell for Eldin Jakupovic’s time as a budget option between the sticks.

Meanwhile, as King Nidge points out, Sunderland’s failure to transfer in Boavista shot stopper Mika Domingues means that our hopes hang on Jordan Pickford in the sub-4.5 keeper bracket. It is worth noting that the Wearsiders are looking for special dispensation to sign another stopper, whilst Pickford withdrew from England Under 21 duties with a thigh problem in midweek.

Everton had mixed fortunes in the transfer window, missing out to Spurs for the signature of Moussa Sissoko, but securing West Ham forward Enner Valencia on loan. Tim Howard’s Beard was on hand to assess the Toffees’ prospects post transfer window.

He also took a look at how Chelsea may line up, following the London side’s recruitment of their former defender David Luiz from Paris Saint Germain, as well as left back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina. Staying with Chelsea, RoysCallerAnne pondered why it is that the Fantasy Premier League bonus point system has such a dislike of their striker Diego Costa.

Another intriguing transfer this week was Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony to Stoke on loan. Andy85wsm takes a look at his chances of success in comparison with another similarly priced striker, Christian Benteke, who swapped Liverpool for Crystal Palace this summer.

Meanwhile, In Like Flynn is less than impressed with some of the high prices clubs are paying for average squad players who may struggle to even secure a regular first XI spot.

Sergio Aguero’s three-match ban, handed out this week after his altercation with Winston Reid last weekend, has also altered many best laid plans. We asked who is wildcarding this week to cope with his loss, while Triggerlips looked at the best time to bring the Argentine striker back in.

Among key targets for wildcarders are West Ham players, who are embarking on a favourable run as Jay’s analysis showed.

Arsenal players are also high on many of the community’s watchlists. But, asked S Kuqi, which of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil represents the best use of our money? For Carpe Diem, Sanchez looks a great option, particularly as the Chilean seems to be unaffected by fatigue when returning from international duty.

With considerable transfer activity anticipated as the international break marches on, Sinik sparked a discussion on the thresholds for price changes. Among those to see their price rocket is Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue. FPLVirgin popped by today to ask whether the budget pick has earned a starting XI berth after his two goals so far this term.

Finally, Diva urged community members to look beyond overall rank history when receiving advice.

The Members Tables

Manchester City’s midfield talent come under scrutiny in Ziro’s latest table. He also spent this week looking over Liverpool’s attacking options. Meanwhile attacking defenders were the subject of Andy85wsm’s most recent table, as well this statistical construction by Flashmule.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing the safety score was 34, which saw 157 managers depart and 2,900 remain.

Cak Juris is the new leader of Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. This is his fifth season and he’s never finished outside the top 11,000.

The Irish Contingent competition, which is organised by HVT, is led by Godot, closely followed in second place by RoysCallerAnne.

Facer retains top spot in the FFS Moderator and Contributors league going into Gameweek 4, closely followed by Evs.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    2 questions guys.

    A - Mane
    B - Nolito

If feature transfer involve downgrading Sanchez to Ozil would you start with Ozil to save a transfer?

    1 - Sanchez
    2 - Ozil

      Wow this is a toughie

I think Scholes would be the only one of those i could say without any doubt had a stoke of genius.. on the level of Iniesta Xavi Pirlo..

Giggs was for a long time as good as anything on the left wing in world football and his longevity at the highest level is not matched by many..

Would be a close on for me between those two maybe just edge towards Scholesy

The other two were world class players in their own right too

okay, crunch time. with price changes tonight it's now or never for me.
    current team:
    Heaton Foster
    Stones Morgan Friend Evans Amat
    Haz Mahrez Townsend Redmond Capoue
    Kun Ibra Gray

    Do I go 1FT Kun > Costa
    orrrr
    WC to?
    A)
Same defence except Stones/Morgan > Souare
    Haz Ozil Sanchez Redmond Capoue
    Costa Ibra Gray
    B)
    Heaton Foster
    Shaw Dann Masuaku Evans Amat
    Haz Ozil Sanchez Redmond Capoue
    Benteke Ibra Gray
If Gray gets a ban then Gray & Dann > Zaza and Morgan/Stones/5.0

Long winded but I'd appreciate just a quick A,B or stick. Worth noting B leaves me with only 5.4 to spend on a mid to replace Sanchez when I bring Kun back in.

Your defence isn't too 'heavy' at all mate, although I will warn you that Jaku will lose his starting place shortly - Hull have signed Marshall.

I'd also get Sterling into your mid somehow.

Hiya lads, i asked this earlier but got only a few replies, just looking for a little more opinion.

Anyone on board with the potential fact that one of Ibra or Aguero simply has to be left out if you want a decent midfield as the season progresses?

It will just be impossible otherwise to have a midfield you can be confident in, and wouldn't like to use two 4.5's in midfield for the duration of the season.

Can do, i'm always skeptical about using it so early on if you want to use your other wildcard for DGWs, could go 30 gameweeks without using a wildcard with this tactic so I like the safety blanket of saving my first wildcard until a little later.

The Zlatan Effect: Ibra vs Pep:

For those who do not know, Zlatan used to play for Pep at Barcelona. They had a falling out and Pep had him loaned out to Milan. Since then, Zlatan has not thought very highly of Pep. How do you think this match will effect Zlatan and Manchester United when compared to any other match? And to what extent will Aguero's absence hinder Manchester City? How do think each key player's fantasy points will pay out?

To answer the first question, I don't think that has any bearing on the match or Pep/Zlatan at all IMO. Doubt they care, or it'll at least be an afterthought. Both just professionals here.

Should be a close match tactically speaking. Two idealogies largely at odds with each other in most senses. I'm curious to see how Pep will manage to find a way to bypass Mou's narrow, low-block & efficiently break it down.

      Can't wait!

      1. AuFeld
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

I concur that they are both professionals, but it's that extra reason for an individual to push their abilities to the limit which may make the difference in the match.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it will boil down to United's offence vs City's defense. Having the most productive offence of City vs the most effective defense of United will cancel each other out, especially without Kun (29% of City's goal production).

Need some help, using my WC

    Current team:

    Foster-Jaku

    Shaw-Stones-Williams-Friend-Pieters

    Hazard-Tadic-Lamela-Townsend-Capoue

    Aguero-Ibra-Gray

Thinking about actually keeping Aguero, but I dont know. Thinking of getting rid of Jaku, Tadic, Townsend, ans possibly Gray & Stones.

Thoughts? Could really use some opinions.

Stones, Pieters, Tadic, Townsend and perhaps Kun out.

WBA def, at least one ARS mid (Ozil, Alexis) and either Barkley/Sterling and Costa/Benteke/Lukaku in would be the prime moves.

I don't understand the sudden love for Costa.

I honestly don't know who I think is the best option. Benteke/Bony or even Remy could prove a brilliant punt, but I don't have the balls for that move. I'll probably end up going Vardy or Defoe.

My initial instinct was to go with Lukaku. Then someone pointed out that he hasn't scored since March. Not sure what I am going to do now. I like Benteke and Bony but would rather wait for them to settle in with their new teams first.

only the next 2 matter, and thats Swansea (away) and Liverpool (home). Swansea are decent at home but I would bet on Chelsea scoring for sure, and Liverpool are a mess at the back, plus it's at the bridge so again all smart money should be on Chelsea scoring.

Just have a feeling about Swansea, and Liverpool won't be an easy game, i just think for 2 games you can get a much better player with better fixtures. I'm happy with just Hazard.

There's a big difference between 'being an easy game' and being hard to score against Liverpool. If Burnley can put 2 in them and Arsenal 3 then Chelsea shouldn't have that hard of a time.

True, it's nothing more than a feeling really, comes down to preference is all, for two games i'd just prefer someone on pens and who isn't reckless and collects yellow cards. Preference though as i say 🙂

Hey guys, should I WC my current team? I only have 1 FT and 0.3m ITB... (if I don't WC I will use FT on Aguero, although I have other issues in this team).

    Foster (Jakupovic)
    Valencia Stones Evans (Friend Amat)
    Hazard Firmino Barkley Redmond (Capoue)
    Aguero Ibra Gray

If I WC, the team that I would go with would be something like this:
    Foster (Jakupovic)
    Valencia Williams Masuaku (Evans Amat)
    Sanchez Hazard Sterling Barkley Antonio
    Ibra Benteke (Diomande)
    0.2m ITB

I know that it's not a popular formation on here but assuming we want to keep Ibrahimovic and Aguero long-term does alternating the odd week with 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 make sense?

By putting in Diomande upfront not only does it allow us Aguero and Ibrahimovic but it allows for great coverage in the midfield. Ozil, Hazard, Firmino/Mane.

Am I over thinking this too much?

I know it means playing the likes of Diomande or Capoue every week but is that necessarily that bad when it allows for the aforementioned options?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes I get that and the apprehension about it.

But assuming the majority would go for Capoue and Diomande in this scenario both Watford and Hulls fixtures are really not that bad for the next while.

The problem isn't the 8th attacker, it's the 7th. Capoue and Diomande will be on benches most of the season if not sold. Diomande has competition now etc.

I'm leaning the other route which is to possibly play the 5-3-2 or the 4-4-2 (Capoue as fourth mid). I see cheapie defs the 4.5 as holding the better potential to keep the cleanies as compared to the likes of Diomande

    3. Pierce34
      • 10 Years

I think a 5th mid/3rd striker rotation has the same pitfalls as a goalkeeper rotation. You go by best fixtures, but in reality it's a toss up and you might as well toss a coin for who to play. Not to mention that both Capoue and Diomande will blank most weeks...

      1. Zoostation

lol as I said I'm likely over thinking this too much.

hard to imagine that they will both continue to perform over the next 8-10 weeks

Capoue CAN play every week. people are slowly starting to recognize this, but it's still a hard sell. maybe
others will come around when his price hits 6.0 later on this year. he's certainly playing like he's priced that
      way now, or higher.

having a 4.5 forward is not the same as a midfielder. there is no one to replace him with. at least
      there are choices in midfield.

for me, Diomonde is not an option.

i thought that might happen too, until i watched last week's game with Arsenal.

Pereyra came in at halftime, and it made no difference to Capoue's position. Behrami
was the DM. Capoue came forward hard EVERY time the ball did. he was on top of
or in the box every single time Watford pressed forward.

in fact, Pereyra's goal could easily have been Capoue's. he was the one who ripped the
shot that was blocked accidently and fell to Pereyra to score.

he has already scored 4 goals this year (2 in pre-season), and he will score more. He won't
keep that pace up, but there's more coming.

rewatch the Watford-Arsenal game, if possible. i don't know if you can. we're lucky herein the
US the way the Premier League is covered. we can watch and rewatch any game we wish
          until the new gameweek.
