Leicester’s summer recruitment drive came to its conclusion on Wednesday evening with the club-recordsigning of Sporting Lisbon forward Islam Slimani. The 28-year-old arrives for an undisclosed fee believed to be worth up to £29 million.

Slimani put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Foxes and, speaking to the club’s official website, explained how he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to link up with compatriot Riyad Mahrez:

“I’ve always wanted to play my football in the Premier League and to get the opportunity to do that with the reigning champions was something I simply could not turn down… My friend Riyad Mahrez spoke to me about the Club and about the atmosphere the Leicester fans create at King Power Stadium. I will give absolutely everything I have on the pitch for them and for my team-mates and I hope that together we can achieve something special.”

The History

Slimani’s career began in his homeland at JSM Cheraga, scoring 21 goals in 22 matches in 2008/09, before he joined another Algerian side, CR Belouizdad in May 2009.

Over the next four seasons, Slimani’s development continued at a steady pace, scoring 32 goals in 96 appearances, before securing a move to Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in August 2013.

He wasn’t a regular starter during the first few months at the club, but, by the end of the 2013/14 season, had forced his way into the starting XI, and ended the campaign with a reasonable eight goals and four assists from 26 league outings.

Slimani entered 2014/15 as the main man in attack for Sporting, and improved his goal output, netting 12 times in 21 league matches, and adding four assists. He also scored twice in six Champions League appearances.

It was only last season when Slimani emerged as a prolific goalscorer, though, scoring 27 goals in 33 league matches, while also totalling six assists.

Slimani made his international debut in a 3-0 win over Niger in May 2012, and has an impressive goal scoring record for his country, netting 23 times in 43 matches, including two goals at the 2014 World Cup.

The Prospects

With the additions of Ahmed Musa and Slimani this summer, Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri looks to have bought players to help ease the burden on Mahrez and Jamie Vardy, who scored a combined 41 of the Foxes 68 goals in the Premier League last season.

While that will undoubtedly help Leicester in their quest to challenge on multiple fronts, the issue from a Fantasy perspective is that we can expect to see plenty of rotation, with Ranieri this season likely to live up to his “Tinkerman” tag.

Given the significant outlay on Slimani, the Algerian will expect to play a prominent role, so it could be that Ranieri looks to operate with 4-4-2 more often this season, partnering Slimani and Vardy up front.

That would appear to make sense on paper at least. Standing at 6ft 2in tall, the Algerian isn’t the quickest and is more of a natural target man who can hold the ball up due to his strength. Crucially, he also possesses the high work-rate required from Ranieri’s charges.

Vardy could play off his strike partner, getting on the end of knock-downs with his electric pace, and making runs in behind the opposition defence.

Shinji Okazaki’s vital contribution to Leicester’s success last season can’t be forgotten, while the increase in central options could see Musa earn more pitch time on the flank at the expense of Marc Albrighton.

Vardy will surely remain the first choice striker, then, but the signing of Slimani could allow Ranieri to manage the England international’s minutes around Champions League matches.

Interestingly, Slimani has been priced at 8.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), 1.4 less than Vardy at 9.9, with Mahrez the other standout option among the Leicester attack available at 9.5.

With so many premium options in good form to start the season, and with Leicester’s fixture list (liv, BUR, mun, SOT, che, CPL, tot) pretty tough over the coming period, it’s unlikely many Fantasy managers will be prioritising a Foxes attacker at this point of the season.

In reality, that schedule, combined with the Champions League campaign getting under way later this month, should hand us the ideal opportunity to get an idea of Ranieri’s favoured tactics and personnel.

At present, there looks to be too much uncertainty surrounding Slimani, with the Algerian also expected to need time to settle into his new surroundings.

Vardy and Mahrez look to remain the key attacking targets at the King Power Stadium, then, with the issue of penalty duties likely to decide which is the superior option. After Mahrez failed to convert from the spot against Swansea last time out, his third miss from his last four penalties, it may be that Vardy takes Leicester’s next spot-kick.

So while Slimani’s arrival will hand Ranieri a different option in attack, the Algeria international may not feature on our radars too prominently during the opening months of his Leicester career.

1st real big decision of the season!!
For the next few GW's.. for a -4..

      1. Ozil + Costa (or any other striker for 10m or less..)

      2. Sanchez + Zaza ( or any other striker for 8.6m or less except Benteke who I already have)

Would be very interested to get your thoughts..

The main goalscorer in what is, imo, a poor team. Would rather have gray for a little cheaper, on pens and, again imo, likely to get around the same amount of goals.

Also, Defoe seems to be a bit of an away goal merchant in recent history. If I remember correctly, he has scored 10 in 10 away games. Pretty certain too they have a run of home games coming up (I'm out and can't verify!)

              Yes, This is WC
              Rodwell is 4.5.
              Masuaku is nailed, so him.
              Yes plan is that only,
Confused between Bony/Defoe, Lukaku->Costa , but Costa has tough fixtures and is YC prone.

Fairly sure that how they lined up last season when both fit & Antonio not playing RB.

Ant has also been put LW, like in the Europa, but hes def most dangerous as RW.

Hopefully Arbeloa is still pacy & fit enough to allow Antonio to play his best position.

Sissoko was a ridiculous panic buy from Spurs, who didn't even need to panic. He only turns up a few times a season and certainly isn't worth that sort of money - hell, he shouldn't even make Spurs starting XI. That's just my opinion though.

Not for me. We had a couple of weeks where only Hazard and Coutinho delivered points from the mid-field. But soon enough Payet, Ozil, Sanchez, KDB, Sterling, Mahrez etc will be reliable alternatives. And IF we get a few of these mid-range strikers (Remy, Benteke, Bony, Negredo) scoring regularly I don't think it will be necessary to spend £25m on 2 forwards. Still have the likes of Vardy, Rooney, Giroud, Lukaku, Kane to consider as well.

I can't believe that people are suggesting waiting a couple of weeks after Aguero gets back to put him in to their teams. Before the season started, I'm sure the general consensus was "If Aguero plays, he is essential." I would never risk not having him! Also I can't fathom people only taking one of Ibra + Aguero! They've got 6 goals in 3 weeks between them. That's unmissable!

Surely the best strategy is to drop Aguero for Vardy/Kane/Costa/Lukaku this week and swap straight back after two weeks. Forget about what your midfield could look like if you missed out on him or Ibra. It just isn't worth it.

This. Im pleased with 31k rank after 3 weeks without him. Ibra and Hazard been good captains and no kun let me fund a strong team elsewhere. Including bringing in Sterling last gameweek who got 15 to Agueros 2. My defence is currently far stronger than the teams getting posted on hete and Im not currently being forced to WC over his ban

It depends how you play the game. I don't think anybody is essential. I own players who I like watching and who I think will score FPL points.

I'm going to disagree here. As good as they are, having both players eat up 25% of your budget means a lot of teams will have very similar looking squads

Good chance for those without one or both to move up the rankings if you can pick the right players

It's not unrealistic for Kun to blank vs swa & Spurs upon return

The thing is if you stick with the captain Aguero every week you will get your captain picks right more often as he's the best player in the game..

Zlatan should be the one to be dropped IMO if your not gonna captain him

I don't fault anyone for using their wildcard, but I admit I'm quite surprised by the number of RMWCTs floating about.

My side has issues to be dealt with, but with so many new players, unclear formations, keeper conundrums, manager uncertainties, etc., I just think the additional information we will learn over the next few weeks will make wildcarding in GW6 (or even later if you can wait) so much more powerful.

Consider even this (not exhaustive) list:

                      - Do any budget keepers remain viable options?

                      - Lanzini vs Antonio

                      - Is Slimani an option?

                      - The best Pool mid for their great fixtures

                      - Lamela keeping it up or fading

                      - Pogba as an asset once assimilated into the team

                      - Does Rooney remain an Ibra option?

                      - Coleman vs Baines vs Williams vs Jags

                      - Wilshere vs Januzaj vs King vs... as a possible budget fourth midfielder

                      - How will Chelsea set up defensively - do they use wingbacks?

                      - Benteke or Remy or even Townsend as a plausible Palace attacker

                      - Mirallas vs Delo vs Barkley vs Bolasie

                      - Bony vs Benteke vs one of the Watford boys vs Defoe

                      - Will Stones keep his place?

                      - Will either Tadic or Redmond tick up and still be solid options?

                      - If Pulis leaves does that really change anything at WBA?

I guess I'm just shocked more people aren't going to cobble it together for two weeks to allow for a much more informed WC side.

I could pretty much answer most if not all of these questions. People will always do what is best for their team and others will post comments of why they think people shouldn't WC. Thats the game it is.

Fair enough, WG. But I take you for example and consider that you've already had to run away from your Stuani and Pogba picks (and likely will have to run away from your Remy one in a few weeks) and just think that super early wildcards lead to regret which leads to a lot of hits down the road.

Thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. Just play your own game. Not run away from Stuani or Pogba. The Stuani pick gained me 8 more points due to money spent elsewhere and now I will drop for another striker of my choice as thats the game. I dont regret my WC as it has yielded more points than I would have received. So the above is not really true but thanks for your opinion.

Using a WC now is a massive punt, I think the WC teams will look weak by GW8 and I'm still to even see a good WC team

Im on WC but agree with it
On the other side after 2,3 gws maybe some of your questions will be answered, but not all..and another set q will emerge too
So just play it when you think its the best time

Ps.whats this talk about Pulis leaving Wba?first time I heard it

I think this is the most valid rebuttal, quite honestly.

As I was keying in my post I also realized - and admitted to myself - that a list of questions could be generated before every game week.

That said, I DO think there are a lot more issues up in the air right now than is typical.

                                Of course there are
End of transfer window and all that..
But for me its also the best time to transfer in some players before others do it,and thats the way I like to play this game

                                Again,Pulis?

He got Chadli, & errr Nyom & Robson-Kanu
Walked out on Palace in similar circumstances.

as a RB you were advised correctly.
due to WHU late and excellent purchases he will no longer be RB

Bcos he got booted from RB & put where he belongs again.

If you'd watched the Hammers last season you'd have been sad when he got pushed to RB and downright horrified when it looked like they weren't signing a new RB to put things in order.

But finally they signed Arbeloa & hopefully Antonio has licence to be back in the box heading Payets crosses in again.

PS membership of ffs is cheaper than a Hammers season ticket

Have Hazard and Sanchez (as Kun replacement)

Pick 2 of these midfielders for the next 4-6 weeks:

                              Lamela

Well 320,000 have transferred him out & he is still 13.1
Most of the 'OMG-he-wont-play-for-TWO-whole-weeks!!' is done.

Since most bought him at 13.0 he needs to be dropping below that to cause any further panty panic when the TV chasers will start 'cashing in' on the price diff.
