In addition to landing Mousa Sissoko from Newcastle, Tottenham also confirmed a deadline day deal to bring Marseille winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou to White Hart Lane for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £9 million.

After penning a five-year contract, the 21-year-old revealed his desire to help bring goals and assists to the Spurs side:

“I did score quite a few goals last season but scoring goals myself or assisting my team-mates is the same for me. When I enter the pitch I just want to play well, put on a good performance, listen to what people can teach me and show my strengths within the team in order to get better… I’ve always had my explosiveness and speed. I’ve kept these qualities and I can’t wait to show them on the pitch.”

The History

Born in Versailles, France, Nkoudou spent time during his youth career at Petits Anges, EST Solitaire Paris, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Boulogne Billancourt, before joining Ligue 1 outfit Nantes at the age of 16.

It was there where he made his professional debut, coming on as a late substitute in a goalless draw against Bastia in August 2013. Nkoudou made six league appearances in total during the 2013/14 campaign, but failed to register any attacking returns.

The 2014/15 season saw the winger firmly establish himself in the first-team squad, featuring in 28 league matches, scoring two goals and providing two assists, playing predominantly on the left wing.

In June last year, Nkoudou completed a £1 million move to Marseille, where his development continued apace. He totalled five goals and three assists from 28 league outings, while he also managed four goals and two assists in seven Europa League appearances.

Nkoudou has represented France at Under 17, Under 19, Under 20 and Under 21 levels, scoring two goals in 12 matches, but has yet to earn a call-up to the senior squad.

The Prospects

With Nkoudou possessing lightening pace, supreme dribbling ability and plenty of skills and tricks, he’ll certainly provide Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino with a different option in the wide positions.

The Argentine is a firm devotee of the 4-2-3-1 system, so Nkoudou will be battling it out with Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Sissoko and Josh Onomah for a place in the starting XI.

Eriksen and Nkoudou look earmarked as the main options on the left of the three attacking midfield positions, with Lamela, Sissoko and Onomah on the right, although Sissoko could also see some action in the double-pivot.

Looking at the underlying statistics of Eriksen, Lamela, Sissoko and Nkoudou last season, it was Eriksen who led the quartet for both goal attempts (one every 30.7 minutes), and key passes (one every 26.9 minutes).

By comparison, Nkoudou averaged a shot every 45.1 minutes, and a key pass every 83 minutes. Those numbers aren’t particularly impressive, then, but it must be remembered the Frenchman is still in his formative years and his decision-making in the final third should improve as he gains more first-team experience.

As already referenced in our Moving Target report on Moussa Sissoko, Pochettino had talked of the need to add more pace and thrust to his side, and in the former Newcastle player and Nkoudou, he looks to have addressed that issue.

It appears the former Marseille man may be slowly eased into action by the Argentine, though, with Nkoudou used off the bench against tiring defences as he acclimatises to English football.

The strength in depth Pochettino now has for the front four positions, with Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Vincent Janssen to also consider, means we can expect to see players minutes managed better during the final stages of matches and potentially around Champions League encounters.

Nkoudou has been handed a valuation of 7.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), which considering Lamela is available for just 0.1 more, looks a little expensive.

The Frenchman certainly looks a real talent, but with regular starts appearing unlikely, certainly during the first half of the campaign, the chances of him coming onto our radars appear slim.

Tottenham’s fixtures (sto, SUN, mid, MCI, wba, bou) are pretty favourable over the coming period, but with a lack of form for the likes of Kane and Alli, and with rotation expected once the Champions League group stage gets under way later this month, it’s difficult to fully trust any of their attacking assets.

That will certainly be a frustration to Fantasy managers who last season could rely on a consistent selection from Pochettino, but there’s little doubt the additions of Nkoudou and Sissoko should enable Spurs to compete on all front this time out, and help avoid the burnout we saw at the tail end of the 2015/16 campaign.

Thoughts on including a 6.5 defender over a 6.5 mid right now? There is a possibility that someone like a Bellerin might score more than someone like a Townsend in the near future.

A lot of people don't have either due to the necessity of a variety of heavy hitters. Makes the mid price bracket a bit unappealing all round really.

And hence my question. Looking at the 3 GWs till now, there isnt a mid-priced Midfielder who is shining through. I am talking about 5.5 to 6.5 range. So rather than spending that kind of money there, wouldn't it be better to use it for an attack minded defender with a nice run of fixtures. Till the time a midfielder in that range starts impressing.

Way to go for the time being I reckon, but it's something I keep thinking about and it's not a popular notion. You can't argue against a Puncheon or a Snodgrass, but if I was a betting man with limited transfers, I'd rather back a similarly priced defender.

Exactly. I think a Bellerin will get more points than a Townsend or any other midfielder in that price range over the next few weeks at least.

I'd absolutely expect Bellerin to outscore Townsend, but is he the best 6.5mid?

Personally like keeping a player in that bracket so your team doesn't require major surgery when a gem emerges.

      1. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON

With Aguero out, spreading the cash and planning to use 2 FTs and a hit to get him back is a minor surgery in itself, Can easily include the 6.5 defender in that operation.

6.5 midfielder is going te probably be "the" 3rd midfielder way it's shaping up. Good question though.

      1. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON
        • 9 Years

Yes he will be. In fact I am expecting someone like Snoddy to shine through this year and be a 4th Mid with probably someone like a Lanzini to be the 3rd, allowing us to accommodate 4 heavy hitters. But till the time they emerge, no harm in using a "safer" high scoring defender.

Yeah it's starting te be a really interesting suggestion. It's funny though, defenders can have good runs and very long poor runs, Bellerin was a good example last season, very heavy latter half. But if you time the run you are in business.

At 6.5 , we can get Chadli and Lanzini too.

Yes. But both of them have been off-action for quite sometime now. I don't expect either of them to score more points than Bellerin in the next 6 GWs. Plus Chadli plays for Pulis and at this moment you would rather choose Antonio over Lanzini.

That's not really the debate, though, because these decisions don't live in vacuums. The question is the value of a 6.5 defender vs. a 5.0 defender and the value of a 6.5 attacker and an 8.0 attacker.

For example, yes, I think it's likely that Bellerin outscores Mirallas (for instance), but I also think the difference between Bellerin and Williams or PVA is slight, while the difference between Mirallas and an 8.0 attacker (stretch it to Sterling, or consider Tadic or Arnautovic or Barkley or many other mid-priced attackers) is much greater.

To play it out, then, I'd rather have PVA and Sterling, than Bellerin and Mirallas/Townsend/6.5 mid.

      1. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON

Right now, if I construct my team with the players who I feel should be in my team and have just 6.5 left....the question I am asking myself is whether I should use that 6.5 to get someone like a Bellerin or use it to get Chadli or Lanzini or Townsend or Mirallas, The clear answer for me right now is Bellerin. It might change if one of these 6.5 mids start producing.

Fair enough. I guess my point is that by spending 6.5 on Bellerin you are inherently stealing a good 1.5 from some other spot. Be that a third forward, a fourth midfielder, or even your starting keeper. Good luck.

And that makes him better? Rashford has won games single-handedly for United many times, Iheanacho comes in during the last 20 mins or so and scores when City is already by 2/3 goals. Not saying, Iheanacho is bad, but saying he's better than Rashford by these stats is daft.

It's not Iheanacho's fault City win games more often. Strikers are judged on output. Iheanacho currently has better output.

Where was Iheanacho when Rashford won the derby for United? The point is Iheanacho hasn't played enough to be called better than Rashford. Maybe he is better, I don't know but he has to play regularly to prove that. Rashford certainly has proved it.

I'd hardy say scoring consistently for 6 months proves Rashford is proven, Michu did that once. And Iheanacho is competing with Aguero, last year Rashford had nobody of that calibre ahead of him.

Mate don't waste your time there has been a hell of a lot of bitterness coming from Liverpool.. their fans and manager starting in pre season when it became clear United were not to messing around any longer in the transfer market and emerged as the financial superpower they are.. when you consider we didn't have CL football to offer you have to sympathise with them to an extent they can only dream of attracting the type of talent we strengthened our club with.. add Jose to the mix and the hatred / jealousy has reached serious levels.. What i have observed also is a lot of Liverpool fans jumping on the Pep and City bandwagon because of this.. forget they spent more money and they had nothing to say on that matter funnily enough.. but they correctly realise that Liverpool can't compete in the transfer market or on the title race with United but City can so they wish for them to come out on top more than anything.. thes lads aren't silly they know how good Rashford is they can't bring themselves to admit it

Yep Toby's the one, but for a mill less you get Baines & Valencia so it's a tricky price point tbh unless you start 4 @back as suggested above and use him like a 6.5 midfielder. Dunno.

Toby is too expensive. Unless you think he can compete with a 6.5 midfielder . . . I don't.

Vertongen is uninteresting. Better available for his price.

The fullbacks are about to begin the annual rotation that goes on with Spurs
          come CL time. Figuring out who will play when . . .Rose . . . Davies . . .Rose . . .
          . . .Walker . . .Trippier . . . Walker . . . gives me a migraine.

          Go elsewhere for defenders.

Yeah currently have Alexis. But when Kun is back i think Sanchez/Ozil has to go unless your selling Ibra

This is where Cazorla comes in handy

          Which looks best?:

          A) Lamela/Aguero > Sanchez/Costa

          B) Barkley/Aguero > Sanchez/Costa

          C) Barkley/Aguero > Sanchez/Lukaku

Holgate will not hold his place unless Koeman plays 3 at the back.

            then he might.

Baines & Coleman wingbacks, back 3 of Holgate-Williams-Jags.

even then. Funes Mori is a threat to him.

His BPS from last 3 games caught my eye, even when he produced nothing. Delivering into Benteke, who I cant fit in, is a big part of it as I'm hoping to gain a few of them potential points.

Most likely but nothing worse than your bench goalie getting 10 while the keeper you played cause he was at home gets 1.

In that case load your bench with 4.4m mids and 4m defenders.

Options is never a bad thing. Might be irritating to occasionally have the bench GK scoring better but it means you chose well and his price will be alright.

Yes. Bellerin by a good bit then Kosc, Monreal & Mustafi in that order for me.

[bottomed and wrong article, but apart from that...]

I know a lot of folks don't like Costa at his price point, but apart from that are there any obvious errors in this WC draft?

          Heaton/Pickford
          Baines, Valencia, Evans, Friend, Amat
          Haz, Ozil, Sterling, Antonio, Capo
          Ibra, Costa, Tekkers

(Need Foster to rise 0.1 to afford this team, if not I'll downgrade Capo or go with Defoe over Tekkers)

A lot of love for Costa on here, so don't think folks think that. I like it. I would have the same team barring maybe 1 or 2 players if I were WCing.

Could be, but consider Caz > Ozil, funded by a defensive downgrade. That said, I really like your team.

Cazorla is not Arsenal cover. What happens if he doesn't take the next pen? He's basically useless then.

Who's doubling up with EVE attacking options?

I have Barkley, which makes me hesitant to add Lukaku as my Aguero replacement.

Anybody feeling confident enough in EVE's attack to double up?

From past years of hurt, they'd be the last time I'd double up on. Questioning myself even thinking about Lukaku.

I'd get Lukaku and then someone other than Barkley.

Looking at the fixtures, a defender from Bournemouth, Stoke, Sunderland, Watford or Hull seems to be the best pick to start in the gameweeks where Evans have a tough fixtures. So who do I get (at 4.5 or less)?

          A) Smith (bou)
          B) Francis (bou)
          C) Pieters (stk)
          D) Kone (sun)
          E) Holebas (wat)
          F) Robertson (hul)

Can I ask what is your reasoning? He plays as a CB so it limits his attacking return and Bournemouth rarely keep a CS.

              I'm actually leaning towards Holebas.

Is Shay Given is nailed on as Stoke's 1st choice keeper or is there somebody else lurking in the wings

Given while Butland is out. Or until Given gets injured which shouldn't take very long

Stoke has loaned Lee Grant from Derby County.

one would assume since he's a Championship goalie and was loaned because Haugaard
is terrible that he is backup, but Givenis not a good Premier League keeper for me.

they need Butland back. i'd stay away from their defense until he is.
