Diego Costa scores twice as Eden Hazard bring home a one-point return. Leroy Fer strengthens his claim as a budget midfielder, whilst Stephen Kingsley seems to have convinced Francesco Guidolin he’s a worthy starter. Here’s the Stock Check following today’s events..

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Whilst Eden Hazard offered us nothing more than a yellow card, Costa maintained his momentum under Antonio Conte by netting both of the Blues’ goals at the Liberty.

Over 362,000 FPL managers turned to Costa as a result of Sergio Aguero’s suspension last week and today’s display means is the only forward to score or assist in all four Gameweeks.

Conte has failed to curb the Spain international’s penchant for falling foul of referees, though – this afternoon’s caution was his third of the season, continuing a run that has seen him booked in every league match that he has scored in this term.

Leroy Fer
Along with Etienne Capoue, the Swansea midfielder continues to bely his budget price tag, with this afternoon’s goal a third in the first four Gameweeks.

Granted, the upcoming fixtures continue to look dire but having scored against Leicester and Chelsea in back-to-back fixtures, Fer seems to have the form to prevail.

Capoue’s cheaper price (4.7 to the Dutchman’s 5.2) and kind set of fixtures from Gameweek 6 suggests he’s likely to remain the favoured fifth midfielder.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Without a goal or assist in the first three Gameweeks, the Swansea playmaker had dropped to 7.3 ahead of Chelsea’s visit.

Sigurdsson’s spot-kick duties came to the rescue, though, and with a couple of bonus points also in the bag, his season now looks up and running.

Fer may currently be the form option, yet Siggurdsson is established Fantasy royalty and could be one to consider when the fixtures start to improve in Gameweek 9.

Stephen Kingsley
The Scot was expected to drop to the bench to accommodate Neil Taylor’s return but instead retained a role in the first XI thanks to a change in tactics by Francesco Guidolin.

The Swansea manager’s decision to begin with a 3-5-1-1 allowed Kingsley to start for the fourth successive Gameweek, stationed alongside Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez in a back three, with Taylor utilised as a left wing-back.

Guidolin’s first-half decision to haul off Taylor and bring on Mo Barrow suggests Kingsley may well be ahead in the pecking order.

Regardless, with Southampton, City, Liverpool and Arsenal next, he looks set for a spot on our FPL benches for now.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it was his first blank of the season.

Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that if Hazard had delivered yet again today, the bandwagon would have kicked into overdrive.

Although a rare off day will certainly be forgiven by his owners, some would-be suitors may now think twice over bringing in the Belgian right now.

With the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Roberto Firmino and Michail Antonio all bagging double-figure hauls ahead of some great fixtures, Chelsea’s schedule – which sees them face Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester and Man United in the next five Gameweeks – could prove enough of a short-term deterrent.

The Chelsea Defence
Antonio Conte handed new boys David Luiz and Marcos Alonso a place amongst the substitutes, opting instead to keep faith in the defence that produced a clean sheet against Burnley in the previous Gameweek.

Branislav Ivanovic may have collected an assist for Costa’s acrobatic leveler yet the nature of Chelsea’s capitulation indicates their backline is very much a work in progress right now.

Given the aforementioned fixtures, Conte will be desperate to address his rearguard’s shortcomings. With John Terry doubtful for Liverpool’s visit with an ankle problem, the Italian may well consider a reshuffle against Jurgen Klopp’s in-form attack.

Neil Taylor
Hauled off just 40 minutes into his first appearance of the season, the left-back looked none too happy with his manager’s decision as Swansea reverted to a back-four.

Post-match, Guidolin apologised, conceding he should have replaced the Wales international at the break, though the bottom line is that Taylor now seems to have fallen behind the cut-price Kingsley as the Italian’s preferred left-back for now.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

          Bournemouth vs. Sunderland, right?

Sunderland has the better fixtures, but King is a better pick than Januzaj or whoever you are considering IMO. If it's Wilson vs. Defoe, then go Defoe.

First time I've seen Hazard play this season. No doubting he'll score well and that he's a good pick but I really can't see that he's any more dangerous than some cheaper players. Especially the Liverpool mids.

Will Costa and Fermino score better than Ibra and Hazard over the next few weeks?...I'm guessing not much between them and for a damned lot less money.

Think with Hazard on penalties and CHE a high scoring team, he will likely just be a bit more consistent than Firmino/Mane though they should provide good value. Don't forget it was only gameweeks ago that Burnley put 10 men behind the ball and shutout Liverpool. Many teams at the bottom half of the table may follow that example.

If Rashford solidifies starting spot on left, it will be a very easy decision and we will see a ton of RASHFORD - AGUERO - COSTA front lines the rest of the way. You can bookmark this post, as I expect this to become the template very soon.

Mourinho likes to settle on a starting lineup, he could end up taking that spot on the left, I don't see why not. Martial hasn't impressed, Mourinho in the past hasn't loved Mata, and if Rooney ever gets injured or dropped for Mik in the #10 role, then it is very possible Rashford gets a big run of games on left. I believe it will happen. Not sure if October, November or December... but this year.

4 goals already and the main man for Utd. How is he overpriced? At least with Arsenal, Liverpool and to some extent Chelsea, the points will be spread. With Utd, the points will be on Ibra most of the time.

I think the point is overpriced in comparison to Costa who has the same return.

Points may spread a bit more for United, don't forget Martial had a big game the first week, Rashford scored the third week, and Ibra led in weeks 2 and 4...

Rooney and Mik and Pogba may also contribute offensively...

You cannot captain anyone apart from Ibra though. With Chelsea people will still go Hazard over Costa for captain especially at home. Martial was lucky GW 1 with 2 fluke assists. Rashford more or less a supersub.

Costa is already on 3 YCs btw. Closely coming close to a suspension so thats a point to consider. And he is still a baps repellent. he won't score twice with everyone blanking that often which is exactly what he needs to get baps 🙂

Re: the yellow cards, after 5 bookings it is just 1 game, so it could easily be a league cup game, or you could bench for one game, not a huge issue. The BPS of course is the tried and true "don't go with Costa" argument, and it's a fair one, but if you watched today, he was tremendous, earning free kicks, shooting on target, dribbling past players, and his form is difficult to ignore in a side that will basically be Top 3 guaranteed and has NO EUROPEAN football to tire them..

He won't score in every game, and the stats don't make me think he's worth the 11.5m+. I'm not convinced Utd I'll create enough chances for him, which relies on him scoring out of nothing all the time.

4 goals total. Manchester United were piss poor yesterday, but he still fired twice as many shots as any other striker this gameweek. He was also second in "pen box touches", and he's on penalties as well (which Costa is not). I think he will outscore Costa comfortably.

          yeah, watched some.
He was good. Problem with Costa as you know is his disciplinary record. there will always be the concern he's going to cost you (or even Costa you 🙂 )-4 here and there with respective bans. And the odd red card too.

    Foster jakupovic
    Pieters, friend, shaw, stones, McCauley
    Redmond, hazard, Townsend, Capone, cazorla
    Ibra, Costa, gray

43 points this week. £5.3m in the bank. 1FT. WC still to use

Shall I take Townsend out for Antonio? Use WC and get rid of Redmond, Townsend and gray? Or take a hit on both Townsend and gray?

Genuinely considering going without Aguero and having a front three of Zlatan, Costa and Kane. It's similar in price to Aguero, Zlatan and a 6.5m striker.

I brought in Kane this week and now that Dembele's back I'll probably keep him - but not at the expense of Aguero.
