Romelu Lukaku breaks his six-month barren spell by taking it out on a beleaguered Sunderland back four. The Belgian’s second half blitz transformed Everton as Ross Barkley watched on from the bench having been hooked at half-time. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 4….

On the Rise

Romelu Lukaku
Without a goal in his previous 12 Premier League matches, Lukaku notched his first and then filled his boots as Sunderland caved in.

You could almost see the Belgian grown in stature and confidence and with Yannick Bolasie storming down the right flank, Lukaku was able to help himself to a hat-trick in just 11 minutes.

He could and should have had more – Lukaku registered nine efforts on goal, six of which hit the target – no player in any Gameweek this season has matched those statistics.

With Middlesbrough at home next, followed by meetings with Bournemouth and Palace, it would seem that Everton’s fearsome front man has found form just as the fixtures fall into his lap.

Should he return points against Boro, those who brought in Lukaku for Aguero may well face a difficult decision come Gameweek 6.

Yannick Bolasie
A barnstorming performance from the DR Congo winger terrorised the Sunderland defence which culminated in him laying on Lukaku’s second with a sublime run and cross.

While Bolasie’s 6.0 price tag looked a step too far at Palace, in this kind of form and with Lukaku converting his supply, it suddenly seems very tempting indeed.

The winger was replaced late on with a knock, although he appeared to be suffering from cramp.

Leighton Baines
Back to back clean sheets and two bonus points tonight, Baines is up and running without finding assists or converting a spot-kick as yet.

The aforementioned fixtures could offer further returns, with Koeman’s Everton looking far more secure and efficient than the version under Roberto Martinez.

In Decline

Ross Barkley
Koeman’s ruthless decision to hook an ineffective Barkley sent a sure-fire message that will have shook the midfielder’s 18.6% ownership.

Brought in by over 60,000 prior to Gameweek 4 ahead of Everton’s favourable schedule, it’s now clear that Barkley’s pitch time is far from secure – Koeman will not be as lenient as Martinez with an inconsistent Barkley.

Everton’s second half transformation without him certainly puts Barkley’s start against ‘Boro in doubt.

Mason Holgate
Owned by 7.1% and transferred in by no less than 180,000 FPL managers heading into the Gameweek, it nonetheless came as no surprise when the 19-year-old gave way to Seamus Coleman.

It was convenient while it lasted but Holgate’s opportunities will now be limited at best. Even if Koeman switches to a three-man defence, he would seem unlikely to earn starts.

Patrick van Aanholt
The Dutchman stuck to his guns against a lively Bolasie in the first half but bizarrely, with Bolasie swapping flanks, he struggled in the second 45.

Caught out of position on numerous occasions, he may yet come under threat, although Moyes’ options appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Please tell me if this is a wise way to use my WC or is it a knee jerk?

    Foster jak
    Walker Williams smith Amat Kingsley
    Hazard Antonio firminho capoue fletcher
    Aguero ibra lukaku

Looks pretty solid to me for a least a few game weeks?

Two Swansea defenders is not what you want with the run of fixtures. Not keen on Smith, think there are probably better 4.5 defenders out there. Also not keen on Fletcher as 5th midfielder. Very strong apart from those points.

If I were you, I'd bring Kane in for this weekend and then Aguero after. Fancy Kane for a double at the weekend.

Any suggestions on how to use 4.5 in midfielder or a different 4m defender?

Not easy mate, there aren't many 4.0 defender or 4.5 midfielder options out there. Just feel you'll be tied to the same back 3 for a while as Swansea have a nasty run over the next 4/5 weeks.

Although they've been poor so far, I'd probably pick Pieters ahead of Smith. Think his price will be down to 4.4 by weekend.

He's 4.6. I have him but after losing 4 goals at the weekend I'm worried about his place. They do have a nice run though so might be worth a gamble.

He's been poo from the first day, Koeman isn't playing fpl so a lucky goal and assist won't convince him much. Plus he had a go at Barkley about his England comments too. Could easily be dropped

          What were his England comments?

          1. @persecuted_by_mods

Barkley basically saying he deserved to play for England can't understand why he doesn't play etc. Koeman said he doesn't like it when players blame managers and Barkley has no one to blame but himself for being dropped from England squad

Yeah for two reasons, I think in general he will score more than Barkley and gray (suspension benching worries as well) and he's scored against tough opponents I don't see him getting points vs Man U as an issue

So I might stick with Kaku for 1 extra week and not transfer in bony just yet

Took Kaku in this week as a 1 off and just so happens I mistakenly captained him so ended up chuffed with this.

I have a ft and was thinking of changing sterling as won't be doubling up when aguero is back but don't have the money to go to firm until I change Kaku down to bony, so if I wait I can do what I want next week in 2, this is better option eh?

Yeah would rather do what I want to than settle for something less.

How are u anyway? Did u do the pieters transfer in the end? I'm glad I forgot to get online on Saturday lol

No avoided Pieters, went Kone instead!
My only regret was not squeezing in Williams/Baines and of course selling Firminho!

I did sell firm straight out but it would have meant a few weeks with nothing happening and didn't want that

Yeah getting cleanies is becoming rare

    Wildcard team got 62 🙁

So bad!!.... except for an increase in TV

Anyone on here not have Lukaku?
I presume those that didn't had Costa, I know some may even had both.

I think that was the germally rule of thumb I went for a more expensive mid than another higher priced striker

Of course I didn't have Lukaku. Hadn't scored in 12 games.

Is Adam Smith a half decent choice? If you look beyond next week his fixtures are good enough

I think so 4.5 (and rising) he also seems to have attacking options in his locker.

Yeah b-mouth looked quite solid at weekend and against lower ranked teams I would say it isn't a bad option

I read somewhere good at home poor on the road, like most teams around that mark so!
