An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Plan was always to WC this week but in a haze of alcohol and no reception, I missed the boat on those price changes....mostly notably Townsend dropping again 🙁
At least Kun dropped though 🙂

Anyone watch the Chelsea Pool game think both Hazard and Chelsea as a whole were pretty awful. Really consider getting rid now on my WC

Team as it stands for next week:

    Heaton
    Valencia Williams Pieters
    Sanchez Payet Fimino Townsend
    Ibrahimovic Lukaku Vokes
    Subs: Foster, Watmore, Collins, Amat

    ITB: 0.2

Ideally, I'd like to get Aguero back in although I am reluctant to lose Ibra. I'll need a 4 point hit and Townsend looks the best option to sell to free up cash but there isn't great deal of 5.4 midfielders. Who do you think is the best option to replace Townsend?

    A. Capoue
    B. Zaha
    C. Fer

Yeah not sure why Gradel isn't playing more. Probably the most talented player in their squad imo. I expect him to figure at some stage, but they also have Stanislas and Wilshere now so makes it tough to guess their team each gw as all these players will figure at some stage.

    Best midfielder at 9.0?
    Mane, Firmino, Antonio, Cazorla?

Mane and Firmino might have their points shared, while Cazorla is limited to set pieces. Not too into Antonio with Payet being their main main.

Will be interesting to see what Klopp does when everyone's available and if Sturridge starts to play well. 3 from 4 of him, Mane, Firminho and Coutinho or maybe some combo to have Coutinho in there ahead of Lallana or Wijnaldum.

Yeah he's hard to ignore if he continues to play in midfield.

He's also very consistent. I remember last season the discussion was whether a Payet and Antonio double up was a good idea as both kept up with each other until Antonio got moved to RB.

After reading this morning's hot topic ... Can I just check: when wildcarding, should you make all your transfers, press submit transfers and then press 'wildcard'?

Or do you press Wildcard first and then make unlimited transfers for the week?

Stupid question, but I have never WC before.

Though you can still press WC after if you haven't pressed it. No big deal. Just make sure it is pressed at some point.

You can do either. Some people like to make lots of transfers then activate the wildcard on the day before the deadline. That way your transfers count towards price rises/drops. I don't think it makes any noticeable difference personally.

      1. The Tinkerman
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Once the WC is active your transfers no longer count towards the rising and falling of prices. But you are just one player out of about 4 million... So it doesn't do anything anyway.

With Capoue's fixtures, he could be the perfect enabler in the next 4 - 6 GW's as a 4th mid. Would allow Aguero, Zlatan, Lukaku, Liverpool & Arsenal midfielders. Enough time for the fixtures to turn and the dust to settle on a template. If he were 6.0m, we'd all own him & start him by now...

      I disagree.

If he was 6.0m the majority would be planning an exit route as it would be obvious his current stats were unsustainable and hence he'd be overpriced for a 6.0m mid.

Excellent 5th mid imo and that's where he'll stay in my team.

You could struggle if one of your defenders gets injured and you need a backup. Love is non existent and Kingsley isn't nailed on as yet.

My thinking behind this is that I am going to play these 3 defenders every week, if get any injuries then will be swapping them out with FTs. Love and Kingsley really are just enablers, always played with a cheap bench, never caught me out in 7+ seasons 🙂

Am I the only one who thinks Chelsea and United midfielders/attackers arent worth it? They lack creativity and their coaches are defensive minded. I have Zlatan and Hazard atm but I think City and Liverpool will deliver much more in attack. Is Hazard really worth the extra 1.9 over Firminho? And now with Lukaku, Benteke, Bony, Costa etc I don't think Zlatan is a must.

    I rather have:
    Ozil - Firminho - Sterling - Antonio - 4.5
    Aguero - Lukaku - Benteke
    +3.0 ITB

    instead of
    Hazard - Ozil - Antonio - Lamela 4.5
    Aguero - Zlatan - Benteke

Thing with Zlatan is his high ownership though.

I can at some point. With no Zlatan and Hazard I have the extra budget to upgrade players. But I feel like I also need a Tottenham player. But Lamela isn't 100% nailed and Alli and Eriksen didn't show anything so far.

        So many options 😛

I think Zlatan is going to be a goal-a-game kind of player this season. Do you want of those for 12m?

That's the point, I don't think he will. Imo that goal versus Bournemouth was a mistake from the goalkeeper and he scored a penalty versus Southampton and also a goal versus City from a goalkeeper error. I think he will score around 15. This Zlatan would score 25 at City. I still think Aguero is a must, I think City will score over 80 goals, maybe even 90.I think United will score around 65 goals.

So far City is imo the big favorite while Chelsea and United let me down. No creativity and coaches who start a game with a defensive mindset instead. Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and City are the better options FPL wise.

    thoughts on such WC team:

    Heaton - Pickford
    Baines - Shaw - PvA - JEvans - Amat
    Sanchez - Firmino - Antonio - Bolasie - Capoue
    Aguero - D.Costa - Benteke

any changes recommended or is it good enough?

    Cech / Jakupovic
    Mee / Friend / Evans / Shaw / Kone
    Hazard / Redmond / Antonio / Townsend / Capoue
    Zlatan / Lukaku / Wilson

With 6.0m in the bank, should I wildcard this week, or just take a hit to downgrade Hazard and do Wilson to Aguero?

If you would take a hit, downgrade someone poor in form like townsend to maybe snoddy and get Aguero for wilson.

Same - it could all change today if Ozil performs, then he'll be a strong consideration. Antonio's fixtures are too good to ignore, especially with Payet coming back into form.

I fancy Ibra over Aguero for the next two GWs and I think this way the squad overall is stronger rather than trying to fit Kun & Ibra together. Sick of having a crap defense & I think more clean sheets will start coming as defenses settle down. I think it's enough having Sanchez as well, though Lukaku is... Lukaku.

Dont get me wrong, I don't own them both and neither intend to. Its that, except Deeney, Snoddy and 1/2 defenders your team probably was the same. And would only wildcard to get Aguero in.

Like the watford fwd. My fiddling down to something like this so far, but 2 swa defs:

        Foster - 4m
        Valencia - McAuley - Holebas - Amat - Kingsley
        Hazard - Firminho - Cazorla - Antonio - Capoue
        Aguero - Ibra - Deeney

I like everything except I don't like two Swans defenders sitting behind Holebas. I insta-sold Hazard after his performance last night, not convinced with upcoming fixtures.

          1. MTPockets
              9 years, 4 months ago

Defs probably ok until gw9 & gw11. May just do it then downgrade someone later for better as fixtures change.
Hazard's frustrating but can't see who else to get in, short of a more expensive Ars mid.

Is this the correct understanding of the Aguero price situation:

        - He's suspended so his price can change up until the end of the suspension
        - Once the suspension is over (after the LC game) his price will be locked for 8 days

I get going (I)braless but ignoring Kun leading this City attacking is risky. Places greater emphasis on making sure your replacement(s) matches or surpasses him.

He's also a standout captaincy pick for most games. It can be done, but razor-thin margins IMO.
