An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I considered Caz but he wont get penalties every week. I am looking at Pool double up but with Lallana/Firmino. For me I would drop Mane for Lallana if you want double and get Ozil for Caz.

What are people views on lallana? He is a cheap way into the Liverpool midfield and is holding up well points wise. I know he won't outscore firmino, mane or coutinho but does he offer value?

What's his price? I think I'd rather go for someone who gets involved in a higher percentage of goals for a smaller team than him.

Personally, I think it depends on the setup. If/when Studge plays up top then Firmino may be the best option. When Firmino plays False 9, Mane, Coutinho and maybe even Lallana are better options.

                Pickford
                Bailly Masuaku Williams
                Ozil Hazard Nolito Antonio Capoue
                Ibra(C) Costa

                A) Haz & Costa > Aguero & Son
                B) Ozil & Costa > Aguero & Pereya
                C) Haz & Costa > Aguero & Milner
                D) Ozil & Costa > Aguero & Bolasie

Just realised Can has been injured since GW1. Did he start or come on and get injured? Lallana only got 75 mins so its a possibility he is only playing in Can's absence. Any Pool fans know the answer to this?

Had 4 choices of 1 week punts this GW before I activated my WC.

                  Sanchez, Kdb, Iheanacho or Kane.

Decided I couldn't justify losing any of my Mids due to plum fixtures.

And in the end, plumped for Kane over Iheanacho.

What are your thoughts on going with this front 8?

                  Ozil Firmino Antonio Capoue 4.5
                  Aguero Ibra Lukaku

This means dropping Benteke (who's fixtures get harder) and Hazard (out of form lately). If Capoue as a 4th midd doesn't work, I could just sell Ibra after his 2 home games or Lukaku for someone like Ighalo/Defoe/Deeney/Bony who all have prettty decent fixtures and downgrade Capoue back to a 5th mid

I think, I am doing the EXACT same thing.

So, it's a yes from me.

Haters will say Capoues form will regress, well, they are right. BUT, having him allows for the points to flow from the other players we can afford by having Cap as 4th mid.

If it goes ti*s up we can easily downgrade a forward

                  2. Worzel Gummidge
                      9 years, 2 months ago

Considered it for a millisecond and realised I would be playing Capoue every GW. Dont do it. It will not pay off. Personally, I would drop Lukaku and get a better 4th mid.

I really like Lukaku as a pick and he has good fixtures. Benteke's fixtures get harder, so he seems the one to be dropped, this way I can always keep Ibra for the 2 home games against Leicester and Stoke. If Capoue as a 4th mid doesn't work, it's pretty easy to sell my 5th middfielder for a better midd and downgrade Ibra for one of the cheaper in form strikers like Bony for example with good fixtures, just like KR also said. If Ibra and Capoue keep performing, I won't have to sell them.

I would not be dropping Ibra at all. If you are happy with it then go for it I suppose.

You could play 4-3-3, so not have to play Capoue.

Just enough ITB to do Hazard > KdB and Costa > Aguero. Yay?

Personally, if I was in your shoes I'd keep Costa because he's on fire at the moment. Of course Aguero is the definition of 'essential' so it could well be your only option. If so, then go for it.

I cannot bring myself to not WC Kun back in, especially with Swansea coming up. But I am thinking of ditching Ibra with United's schedule getting a little tougher in two weeks. Costa has done well, but fixtures are also tough so if Kane scores today, thinking of bringing him in.

I've already decided to ditch Hazard too.

I'm looking at tripling up on Watford! What is happening, Holebas - Capoue - Deeney.
