We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Hi Guys,

I'm on WC and have a little dilemma up front.
Before WC i had, Ihenacho, Lukaku and Ibra.
Now I'm thinking -Ihenacho - Ibra + Kun + Rashford.
Rashford seems like a good choice if you want some Man U in there.

    What do you think?

    Thanks in advance!

I am on WC this week and struggling just like everyone it seems. My team so far is:

    Foster - Jaku
    Stones - Morgan - Amat - Friend - Smith - Holebas
Sterling - Sanchez - Firmino - Capoue - Marney (shitty 4.5er from Burnley)
    Aguero - Costa - Lukaku

I am little scared with regards to my lack in inflexibility in midfield if some players get rotated. I am honestly afraid of Sterling losing minutes to Sane for example, despite his brilliant form… Marney as a Sub from the bench just doesn't really do it. I would need all 4 starting players to play each week. is that too risky?

    My other option is:
Costa -> Rashford or Deeney &
    Marney -> Antonio

Deeney has great fixtures and takes pens, but otherwise doesn't really do much and Rashford almost seems nailed considering how baldy everyone else is playing… what do you think?

    Cheers

Would you bench Cazorla or Capoue this gw?

Capoue great form but facing a solid defense away.

Cazorla highly likely back on pens and playing CHE at home in a match that could easily have a pen or two for either team.

    Thoughts?

Considering a similar move. Chelsea have fairly tough fixtures coming up, but Haz's recents blanks are clouding people's judgement I fear. He's playing pretty damn well.

WC post 2: Electric Boogaloo, ?/10?

    Pickford - Jaku

    Kun - Costa - Lukaku

      Pretty strong.

      Good premiums - Kun, Sanchez
Second tiers - Costa, Lukaku, Firmino
      Third tier - Stirling, Walker
      Fourth tier - Capoue, Morgan
Firth tier - Pickford, Jaku, Evans
Sixth tier - Zuniga, Amat, Marney

Solid at top. Need better players in the sixth imo.

      7/10

    2. Dark Wolf
      • 9 Years

      6/10
Morgan is not very interesting for now.
Zuniga is not nailed at the lineup.
      Marney is simply awful.

You should think about improving and balancing your team (as FPL states, is not possible to win, usually, with Zidane's and Pavon's). At least one more good def (like Baines). And possibly downgrading Sanchez or Costa in order to balance the rest of the squad. You cannot be always playing with the same 11 (is not efficient).

    3. Dark Wolf
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

Usually you approach a balance team as having:
2 premium fwd and one medium tier (like tekkers).
3 premium mdf then 2 other in the low tier (capoue, fer, Snodgrass are very interesting options)
2 premium def (usually not full back)
The keppers are nice, but maybe you may think on improving some to Foster

Time for UTB's now regular Monday run down of Boro's assets!

Firstly to say, Everton are not our rivals this season - they were a league apart once they equalised, however from our perpsective we kind of already knew that so we were hoping to really just take some positives from the game - or at least learn something new an maybe try to sneak a point. I'll highlight a few of those points in player profile form:

Valdes - Typical of a lot of Spanish keepers not used to the Premier League, he looks to be really struggling with crosses at the moment...and I can't believe how small he is. I'm sure he used to look huge on the TV.

Barragan - Arguably our best player again. The only defensive asset I would be interested in right now and I dare say, the safest defensive option right now.

Friend - George, we have a problem. There was always a question mark about whether he would step up and we thought that would be from an attacking point of view rather defensive, but it appears not. He's being targeted week in week out now and is very much above the radar. Despite an assist, he is becoming a bit of a problem that Karanka may need to address. If I had him I would be monitoring it very closely - particularly once Fabio is back (Barragan to LB and Chambers in at RB is also an option).

Gibson/Ayala - Once again Gibson did his job well (possibly could have done more for Lukaku's goal) and on more than one occasion saved Ayala's bacon. Just back from injury Ayala though and usually takes a few games to get back to his best. He needs to improve though with Chambers sniffing about.

De Roon/Forshaw - Neat and tidy, but ultimately overran by a far more experienced midfield. It looks like the midfield of choice for the time being, though Clayton could come in for Forshaw against the better teams for a more defensive approach.

Nsue- I called it a few weeks back that he might become an OOP option, and so it proved. However it's not an option I would be recommending because he was terrible. In for the injured Stuani, who for the record, would have made absolutely no difference at all.

Downing - Solid again, but having to do a fair bit of defensive work to help Friend out, so not really a fantasy option right now.

Ramirez - hounded out of the game again away from home, despite starting well. In fairness, I just think that was Everton stepping up once they scored more than it being his fault. Still nailed on but will score all of his points at home.

Negredo - Same as Ramirez, we just couldnt really match Everton so was isolated for much of the game.

The subs Fischer, Nugent and Clayton didn't really have much impact/time. Nugent seems to be ahead of Rhodes in terms of Karanka's trust but remains not good enough - doesn't say much for Rhodes does it?

Overall, not to disapointed becasue Everton are a cut above us, and a lot of other teams this season, but it's true that one or two of our players are struggling a bit - Friend, Clayton, Ayala, Valdes and the right hand side of attack is all a bit of a problem.

I'd recommend staying away from Boro to be honest until the dust has settled on the above players. Players like Bernardo Espinosa, Callum Chambers, Adama Traore and Viktor Fischer could all be seeing more game time soon.

I'm making some changes to bring back Aguero, but cannot decide between 2 different plans. Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated. I'm getting rid of Lukaku+Tadic+Lamela to bring in Aguero+Bolasie+A/B (the remainder of my frontline is Sanchez/Payet/Firmino/Benteke/Rondon)

    A) 4.4 midfielder, like Fletcher or de Roon. This would leave me 0.5 in the bank to do something like Rondon --> Deeney next week, or Benteke --> Janssen if Kane is out long term

    B) Capoue. I still don't think he'll keep this up, but his price is rising fast. I could then do one of the moves above coupled with downgrading Capoue to a 4.4mid. That would land me a 0.1 profit but cost me a hit. Or if Capoue keeps this up I and needs to be played every week I just downgrade Bolasie to bench fodder and upgrade elsewhere.

Both plans are flexible, but one has the flexibility of money in the bank, while the other depends on Capoue's price and performance. What's your take?

    Cheers!
