We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Hello guys.

    Discussion theme:

1- Do you think stones will be out from city or subject to a rotation system.
2- Best liverpool midfielder for upcoming fixtures
3- best low price midfielder( allready have capoue)

    1. @persecuted_by_mods
      10 years, 1 month ago

      1) every city player will be rotated including aguero if you look at pep at Bayern

      2) Firmino for me

      3) Snoddy, Fer, Bolasie

    2. Al Bundy
      10 years, 1 month ago

      1. Yes
      2. Firmino
      3. What is low? 5th mid price or 4th mid? Loads of 4th options, like Snod, Bolasie, Puncheon, Townsy, Hendo, Gundogan.
5th options are a bit weird, but any second now Joe Allen will make Stoke a great team

My current plan is to maybe go Hazard and Ibra > Aguero + Sterling and have 1.3m ITB. Any suggestions?

I can do Kun Lukaku Ibra easily and keep Sanchez.
Penalty is no Liverpool cover at all.

The greatest thing about getting Kun for Ibra now is his low ownership in the top ranks. If you manage to catch a huge haul (especially if captained) and Utd's troubles continue, you could surge into the top10k easily.

    1. RustyBz
      10 years, 1 month ago

at same time if Ibra gets a huge haul you're in trouble

    2. Christina.
      10 years, 1 month ago

...or you get Kun in and at the same time Ibra(who you keep) destroys LEIC/STOKE.

You could argue that Liverpool mids won't hurt much due to low ownership (unless its Coutinho who gets the points). AN Ibra haul would be devastating for non owners.

West ham nice fixtures coming up Southampton Middlesbrough Crystal Palace Sunderland. With Payet on form and assisting Antonio has a more of chance to score. Total of 20 shots 8 on target for Antonio so far but he has scored total 5 goals all headers

Ha I'm looking at a very similar decision below... I'm getting in Firmino/Coutinho this week, then Arsenal cover next week after chelsea game when their fixtures look nice.

Oh yeah I actually can do that.

But then Sanchez and Hazard need to stay in the same price as now. 0.0 ITB after doing that.

    Foster (Heaton)
    Valencia Stones Baines (Collins,McAuley)
    Hazard Ozil Redmond Antonio (Capoue)

Not sure, I guess Sanchez wants them and as the "big player" Cazorla let him. Not sure he'll take another though, he's terrible at them

I'm sure there was banter in the dressing room post match. Carzola will have said he s taking the next.

    Walcott 2.3% ownership, Iwobi 0.6%.
Worth a punt on either of these.

Walcott maybe short term. Iwobi no.

I get the feeling that Iwobi may be getting regular game time this season.

    Thoughts about Islam Slimani?

    1. PlayPercentage
      10 years, 1 month ago

Looks the business. The Vardy-Slimani partnership could score a lot of goals this season.
He might even be on pens (Mahrez stole the ball in the CL game).
A bit expensive at 8.5. But a definite under-the-radar pick.

mun SOT che CPL tot (probably wait for a bit)

Definitely keeping an eye on him. Leicesters fixtures aren't great for the next few weeks, but they really turn around GW10/11

Is giving ibra one more chance worth it or taking a hit to get kun. I kept faith in coutinho last week and he repayed me. Any views

Keep Ibra if you think he can outscore Aguero!

Thanks for your input guys! I think he can make his way into my team after Chelsea.

    Worth WCing this bunch?

    Foster jaku
    valencia stones friend pieters souare
    firmino antonio ozil sterling capoue
    ibra kaku Benteke

    - Defence is in a horrible state..Have suffered price drops for friend, souare, pieters already...stones might drop soon
    - was planning to play AOA this week
    - plan was to WC in gw8 after ibra two home games..And get kun in for him
    - can sort Def when I WC in gw8 but worried I suffer more price drops

2 transfers would sort out the defence. Just play the obvious 3 this week. Not sure a WC is needed.

If I don't want kun yet are my best 2 transfers Ozil & Hazard > Firmino & KDB?

    Heaton
    Collins Baines Shaw
    Antonio Ozil Hazard Sterling
    Ibrahimovic Lukaku Benteke

    Pickford Capoue Evans Amat

Just so you know, I'm probably about to weaken my midfield and destroy my defence just to have Kun, Ibra and Luk up front.

You can still get a decent midfield out....as long as it's doesn't include sanchez.

        Foster, Jaku
        Walker, Williams, Kingsley, Amat, 4.4m
        Özil, Firmino, Antonio, Capoue, Leko
        Kun, Ibra, Luk

        Hmmmm.

Should be able to keep a good defence if you have Capoue as 4th mid

Arsene against a top tactician like Conte. Its exactly the kind of game where Arsenal could be whipped and Hazard gets a haul. I am tempted to keep him for one more week.
