West Ham’s dire form shows no sign of abating, as Southampton march into the London Stadium and take three points, with Charlie Austin amongst the goals once again. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s encounter….

On the Rise

Charlie Austin
Having scored four goals in the previous three across all competitions, the Saints striker was granted a second Premier League start of the season by Claude Puel. Austin vindicated that decision with the opener and also supplied the assist for Dusan Tadic’s goal; he is clearly in the midst of a hot streak right now.

With Leicester City, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next six, though, the fixtures are hardly in his favour.

Dusan Tadic
After a slow start to the season, the Serbian continues to build momentum. Tadic opened the campaign with a trio of blanks but has since served up points in each of the subsequent three. Assists against Arsenal and Swansea City were followed up with an ice-cool finish against the Hammers as the Saints chalked up a fourth straight win in all competitions.

Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for the Saints in the Premier League after keeping out Swansea City last weekend. Ryan Bertrand earned his first attacking points of the season with an assist for Austin’s goal, while Cedric Soares mirrored his fellow full-back for bonus with two apiece.

The duo have now served up 18 and 17 points respectively in the last couple of Gameweeks as Puel’s approach finally takes hold.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Much was expected of the Hammers today, from what was the first of four home matches in six. While Michail Antonio’s kinder price may persuade some to hold ahead of visits from Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Sunderland, the premium priced Payet may well be seen as surplus to requirements. Yet to score in the league so far, he has been subject to more transfers out than any midfielder this term and that trend may well continue in light of today’s uninspiring display.

Michail Antonio
Antonio’s stock also takes a dent following the tactical tweaks from Slaven Bilic. With the Hammers chasing the game, Bilic replaced Håvard Nordtveit with striker Ashley Fletcher on 71 minutes. Antonio was then shifted to become an attacking right-back – a move which could become familiar should West Ham find themselves in a similar scenario again. Given their form, that seems likely.

James Collins
The Welshman’s run in West Ham’s first XI came to an end after he dropped out of the squad today. Having started each of the first five, Collins – who rose to 9% ownership in FPL – was clearly earmarked as the fall guy, with Winston Reid returning to partner Angelo Ogbonna at centre-half. Today’s capitulation may well force another rethink, though – the Hammers have now shipped 14 goals in the last four.

By all accounts, Marshall had a shocker and Jaku could come back, but it's a game not worth playing if you're on the WC. Just bank the 0.1m from Jaku and move on.

Pickford, on the other hand, is someone I'm worried about too given how easily they conceded 3 goals to Palace. Neither secure, but Jaku dropped and Pickford hasn't been as yet.

If this was Thursday wine night I might be really tempted to do Aguero and Lukaku > Ibra and Costa.

        So...

        A....just do it.
B...go to the co-op and stock up on wine ready for Thursday.

He's scored 17, 12 and 2 in his last 3 matches and is playing Crystal Palace at home, who've conceded 2 goals against Sunderland, who by the way barely score.

his not a player id count on scoring in any particular game, it just happens randomly with him which is why im not a fan. But id keep him if i had him for the nice fixtures.

Sporadic game time in an unsettled team isn't a great idea. Fantastic value if he locks down a spot in the starting XI.

Mata and Walcott, same consideration. Both would be superb value at 7.4/7.5 if their gametime could be trusted. So far they have been favoured. It's a question of whether that will continue.

Hey, saw you ask about my opinion on Walcott yesterday.. I would not worry about his gametime at all at the moment, has been our best player so far this season along with Iwobi + looks really, really sharp. Seems to be determined to completely nail down this RW position again and hasn't put a foot wrong.. Tracking back stats inc tackles have been better than they've ever been so far too. Wenger talking him up too.

Ox nowhere near in a position to be taking many minutes from him, a lot saying Ramsey when fit but I just don't see it on current form (Not a Ramsey fan myself anyway) - Ramsey played there last season when Walcott was injured and then back but not very match sharp, plus the whole wanting to be a striker thing..

Walcott a bargain at 7.5 as as nailed as anyone at the moment

Thanks. That was my impression but good to hear it from someone that knows better.

Wenger also said that he sees Ramsey as a CM not so long ago. I would be more concerned about Perez and how long the Sanchez striker experiment will continue because if he gets moved back wide then there's more pressure on Walcott's place.

But thanks anyhow. I think I'll work on the basis of getting him in.

Comment on the Stock Check article...

It's a little unfair to Payet, his big number of transfers out came because Bilic didn't start him till GW4 as he was very late back from the Euros. Since then he has 10, 9 and 1 point in 3 games, average 6.67. And he wasn't exactly innocuous today, he still had and created chances in a very poor West Ham performance.

Similarly, the lack of mention of Redmond seems peculiar. He was excellent, had more goal attempts than any other player (4), all inside the box, 2 saved, one blocked and one wide. A team-mate shot when a cross would have given Redmond a tap-in. He also created 2 good chances and assisted the assister twice. He looks brilliant value at 6.0 in an improving team to me.

Problem is he hasn't transferred his decent stats into points since GW1. Might be worth a look after christmas when he gets properly accustomed to his new striker role.

He's not playing as a striker. He has a free role off the striker, as does Tadic. Southampton were more or less a narrow 4-3-3 today with the width coming from the fullbacks.
