Clean sheets have been rare beasts this season, with half of all Premier League teams managing no more than one – and five none at all – in seven attempts so far.

Sides recording consecutive shut-outs are even thinner on the ground.

Manchester United managed two in a row in August, Southampton are currently on a three-match run of their own and Arsenal went into the international break with back-to-back clean sheets.

The Saints will face both Manchester City and Chelsea over the next three Gameweeks, however, leaving the Gunners looking the likeliest to continue their fine defensive form once their players’ latest national chores are done.

With that in mind, in this latest members article we assess their recent defensive performances, analysing Arsenal against other resilient rearguards before checking out the merits of Arsene Wenger’s preferred back-four.

So, Spurs or Arsenal defender going forward? Must say I prefer Arsenal's games better, at least for the short-term.

But more specifically, should one go for Walker or Mustafi? Have a 6.1 budget

Prefer Arsenal at the moment I think.
I did get Walker on WC a col of weeks back. Sacrificed and got Cech as my Arse cover

    Good morning DZ,
just catching up on my very colourful squad - lots of yellows.
Like Le God said above.... just like a xmas tree.

Even before Lukaku flag and Benteke hatty, I was thinking of taking Lukaku out.
    Current front 8 is
    Antonio - Fimino - Sanchez - Capoue - Snoddy
    Kun - Lukaku - Deeny

    Thoughts on:
    A) Lukaku & Antonio -> Benteke & Walcott (up to 9.0)
    B) Lukaku & Antonio -> Defoe & Payet
    C) Lukaku to Benteke

    Any help apprecaited

I just cant see Uniteds defence being worthwhile currently. He's a great defensive pick, but you're gonna need a spurs defender in there really.

What are people's views on Rooney? I personally think he's very greedy not retiring from international duty. Clearly only going after his own gain toget more ground to be top goal scorer.

Michael Owen was a much better England player in my view. Pity his career got cut short.

Also think Defoe was a better striker then Rooney, would have smashed Rooneys goal record if he'd have played a team like United as long.

I think its incredibly close minded to insinuate that Rooney is 'greedy' for not retiring. I think a man who has dedicated himself to his sport deserves to play on until he feels he is finished. The issue therefore lies with the management of the clubs he represents, from england to united. If we consider the intense pressure he is under minute by minute rather than game by game or season by season, it is hard to look past confidence wrecking performances and poorer displays as an unjustified excuse.

The man is a legend, and has for years performed at the highest level. He needs to not be picked, i for one would not voluntarily withdraw from something i adore. You'd have to take me out kicking and screaming. He still has a purpose in football, look at Beckham: as a brand and footballer. He had free kicks on his side. Nothing all game and a good cross or free kick and he was back in the good books. Wayne, sadly is being positioned in silly places. Any other team out of the top 3, maybe 4, would take him. You put him at Southampton, Norwich, Spurs perhaps and he plays and probably plays well. Maybe he needs a new chapter. But he isnt greedy or goal hunting for glory, he's simply a committed and seasoned professional.

this. those who retire early are irresponsible and totally selfish. they have to play as long as the country needs them. Those retired early are "greedy" wanting to prolong their club careers forgetting duties for the country.

First thing's first. I don't like Rooney, I've never liked Rooney, and I don't support the English national football team. To suggest that someone is greedy for not voluntarily retiring, at the age of 30, from a sport and team that he's dedicated his entire life to is absolute crap.

No, I don't think he should be on that team, or at least not on the field. I'm sure he adds a hell of a lot to the dressing room that the rest of those youngsters may never have.

But greedy? Personal gain? Absolute crap.

I agree with all of this. And I don't know that his prime motivation is the individual one of top goal scorer. I think he wants his team to win matches.

But I don't support England, MUFC or really even Rooney, so all good.

Agreed. When he plays his main goal, like most* professionals, is to win games.

Owen wasn't a better England player than Rooney. A better striker maybe, not a better footballer. Owen won very little in comparison to Rooney.

Your last paragraph is laughable. Defoe was never good enough to play for a top club. Looks a very good player playing for a poor club.

Rooney has won everything in club football. How is it greedy to want to still play ball at a top level? He has more than enough money. If he was greedy he'd have gone to US or China for megabucks.

I hope you don't really mean to say he is greedy by not retiring. Those who retire early are irresponsible and totally selfish. They are the ones actually "greedy" wanting to prolong their club (money) careers forgetting duties for the country.

Don't get Rashford. I can't see him being his usual self on the wing, needs to be up front to be effective. Rotation risk with proper wingers like Martial champing at the bit.

Wilson has better short term fixtures than Austin. There is a nice fixture shift around GW13 to sell Wilson for Austin.

Jaku seems a wasted pick. Amat as well, WC to a better line up not a budget pick. Hojberg is again not a WC pick as he hasn't performed regardless of price. Capoue will go off the boil too, Too much up front. Take an Austin or Defoe and upgrade across the rest.

AOA active however this depends on yellow news for Lukaku Aguero etc

    Currently on

    Heaton**
    Mustafi Kone

    Pickford backup for Heaton

    Other defenders -
Williams (A City) Evans (H Spurs) Amat (A Ars)

A -if Heaton ruled out Double Sunderland?

    Or

    B - Evans/Williams ahead of Kone?

Actually looks like I'll be saving 1FT this week - unusual after an international break.
      When in doubt do nothing?!

                  4/1 Trump.

Although the Brexit odds were similar, even more of a difference and the underdog won then.

Maybe a couple of defensive options:
              (a) Williams or Lovren to a Spurs defender or
              (b) Maybe McAuley to Holebas or Smith.

Did Artis-Payne first TD scorer with Betfred, £5 on him at 10/1. They do a promotion if your first TD scorer scores a second, they double the odds and a third, they the treble the odds. He got the first TD and has just scored again 🙂 Still over a quarter to go hopefully get a 3rd.

A bit of a dilemma....defense is looking tragic for GW 8....no Liverpool MF or Arsenal defense. Which do you think is the priority? Swapped Ibra for Deeney with my FT so any change would be for a hit.

              Heaton/ Foster
              Jags/ Valencia/ McAul/ (Collins/ Amat)
              Ozil/ Puncheon/ Sterling/ Antonio (Barry)
              Aguero/ Benteke/ Deeney

If Arsenal def for a hit who to drop?
If Liverpool mid- Puncheon to go

Given fixtures I rate an Arsenal defender more likely to return than a Liverpool mid.

That's what I was leaning towards...then Liv mid next week. Lack of clean sheets first 6 GW made me lazy on dumping the likes of Collins etc. Valencia or McAul for the axe?

                If it's Valencia→Bellerin
                Or
                Puncheon→coutinho/Firmino
I would get Bellerin first just because puncheon has better fixture imo ... but would get liv midf. Asap so next week monitor coutinho/Firmino/Manè and try to pick one (will be the hardest decision ever 😀 )

If Heaton is actually injured and doesn't play, somehow my Robinson mastermind from gw1 is going to get some minutes.
Heaton is class however, with Robinson there I wouldn't expect a CS anyway.
