Sergio Aguero declares himself fit, Belgians make hay and two midfield heavyweights star for the French in Monday’s international matches.

AGUERO FIT – AND KEEN TO PLAY

Great news for Sergio Aguero (13.1) owners – he’s not injured after all. Bad news for Sergio Aguero owners – he wants to play against Paraguay in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Manchester City striker is close to becoming the most popular Fantasy Premier League pick, with only Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) owned by more than the Argentinian’s 43.3%. A brave/foolhardy 62,000+ managers have even drafted him in since GW7, despite Aguero’s previous form for getting injured on international duty.

Deja vu was certainly in the air when reports surfaced that a calf problem picked up in the 2-2 draw against Peru might be more serious than initially thought.

But now Aguero himself has played down the issue.

“You always want to play in the national team and try to do the best, and for now I feel good physically. We did tests, they were good and I’m trying to get as fresh as possible for Tuesday. Last season, for wanting to continue, I ended up injured against Ecuador. Sometimes you think ‘why didn’t I stop?’ Because then I’m out for a month and a half and I miss six or seven games for City. But when they call you for the national team, you want to play. That’s how it is.

With a home match versus Everton coming on Saturday, City coach Pep Guardiola and more than 1,660,000 FPL managers will have to endure Aguero’s admirable patriotism for another long 90 minutes.

No such luck for the 3.4% with Bacary Sagna (5.4) in their squads – the French full back limped out of the 4-1 win over Bulgaria on Friday with a hamstring problem and will be sidelined until at least early November.

BELGIAN BONANZA

It’s a good time to be a Christian Benteke (7.6) owner.

The Crystal Palace striker is in fine form, with three goals in his last four league outings, and he made history in Belgium’s 6-0 rout of Gibraltar last night by scoring after just seven seconds.

Having netted the fastest-ever World Cup goal, he then went on to bag a hat-trick.

Okay, so it was only Gibraltar, but when Benteke is in-form and confident, there aren’t many strikers better, so 6.9% of FPL managers will be rubbing their hands ahead of Palace’s home match against a struggling West Ham on Saturday – the Hammers have conceded nine goals in three away matches to date.

After that, the fixtures are a mixed bag for Palace all the way up to the final international break of the year in November, with Liverpool at home and Leicester City and Burnley away, but an on-song Benteke tends to be a handful for any defence.

He only started against Gibraltar as a thigh problem kept Romelu Lukaku (9.4) on the bench.

At 22.2%, the Everton striker is the fourth most-owned FPL forward in the game, so his post-match tweet that it was ‘time to go home and recover from this little thigh problem’ will have come as some relief to many – over his use of the word ‘little’.

Lukaku has five goals and an assist from his last four league outings and, if fit, would fancy his chances of adding to that against a Man City defence that’s kept just one clean sheet all season.

Two other Belgians enjoyed themselves against Gibraltar.

Eden Hazard (9.9) followed up his strike against Bosnia and Herzegovina with another goal and an assist yesterday.

The 19.7% of managers who have stuck by him will hope that he can end his barren spell for Chelsea, during which he’s done nothing of note for the last four league matches, when Leicester visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime.

And Burnley’s highest-scoring midfielder, Steven Defour (6.0), produced an assist. He has three of those, and a goal, in six starts for the Clarets.

Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld (6.5) also supplied an assist, adding to his goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday.

PAYET AND POGBA PERFORM

Reports of Dimitri Payet’s (9.4) demise seem rather premature.

The West Ham midfielder might not yet have scaled the Olympian heights he managed last season, but he has still served up four assists and a wonder goal in four league starts and provided the pass that led to France’s goal in the 1-0 win in Holland.

Palace and Everton away and home matches with Sunderland and Stoke await Payet.

France’ goal came from Paul Pogba (8.3). With 9.9% ownership figures, he remains Manchester United’s most popular midfielder by some margin, but a goal in the GW6 rout of Leicester is his only significant contribution thus far.

Even if his form is on the up, away matches against Liverpool and Chelsea suggest now is not yet the time to splash out on the world’s most expensive player.

Bellerin Boost for Gunners

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin (6.5) shrugged off an ankle problem to play from start to finish in Spain Under 21s 5-0 win over Estonia.

The right-back was rated doubtful heading into last night’s match and his recovery will be music to the ears of a healthy 25% ownership – making him the third most popular defender in FPL.

Bellerin also sits third in the defender standings and with clashes against Swansea, Middlesbrough and Sunderland up next, looks well placed for further returns at both ends of the pitch.

      Hey buddy!

Erm, Baines has to go from those I think! Would want to limit exposure of your backline to that City game.

      I'm unsure of Rashford, too

I'd be tempted to go Baines + Rashford to an Arsenal defender and then either Austin or Tekkers here. Not 100% sure, but that's probably what I'd do

Let's see who gets injured next before making any moves, though 🙂

Hey mate! That's also a great option on paper! Can only afford Austin/Wilson if I am to double up with Arsenal defence. Don't you think it's risky to go without Son and Wally though?

Oh yes indeed - sorry, only skimmed and assumed that you had Sanchez hehe 🙂

I'd probably do Walcott in, then, and maybe put Rashford down to Austin.

I kind of want Walcott, but I want Bellerin a bit more... But if i did bring Wally in I'd captain!

Son.... I reckon he's a watch and wait because of the international break and the travelling

The only player from Stoke that I'm VERY keen on is Butland.

As soon as he's back, it is Cech to Butland for me, and just in the middle of their good fixtures.

Ville Ronka gets in players that are scoring and playing well. Shano thinks thats being a sheep and following the crowd so no way is Shano VR.

You only get in players that are not scoring in case they start scoring, Thats the Shano approach.

Which goalkeeper to select this weekend? Heaton or Foster?

I think both Burnley and WBA will concede at least two but neither team as many as four. Heaton seems the more likely of the two to get a clean sheet, however Foster will probably make more saves. I'm swaying towards Foster.

Foster has poor CS chane next 4 fixtures, Gomes or Marshall prob better over those.
But if you bought at 4.5 likely cant get him back after & you may be stuck with the alternate.

might be best to just burn the FT
Now there's a rule change they could do - cash an FT into +£0.1 itb during the first 10 gw.

    Ibra > Benteke
    Kone or ZUniga > Bellerin

then next week Chadli > Alli, assuming no injuries to deal with

how does that sound? And who would you take out, zuniga or Kone?

Zuniga needs to go I think - seems Holebas has the spot in the Watford team for now.

Chadders to Alli is a great plan :). I'm watching and waiting on Spurs' midfield - dk which one is best out of him and Son for now.

Yeah zuniga is certainly less nailed then Kone. Annoyingly Kone is dropping very soon and Zuniga has the potential to rise, but guess that's just the way it goes.

Yeah definitely worth keeping an eye on spurs midfield. Eriksen aswell for 8.2, if can catch him when he goes on his streak could be golden

I feel like Eriksen has been diminished a bit by Son emerging as a viable alternative in that Spurs midfield.

But he's definitely worthy of consideration at 8.2 for sure...

Hi guys - I have too many ideas in my head for what to do, so instead of giving options, what do you guys reckon I should do with this lot?

    0.6itb / 2FT

    Pickford/Jaku
Williams Lovren Walker / Amat 3.9
Capoue Antonio Firmino Sanchez / Fletcher
    Kaku Kun Costa

    n.b. I don't care about my bench 🙂

Any help appreciated - fine with taking a -4 if you think I need 3 transfers, but never more than that (unless it's a DGW)

You are trying to fit an ARS defender?

If not, just Capoue for Snodgrass and save the other FT.
      That would be my take.

      Ah, very good front line!

I can't quite do Capoue to Snoddy - he's at 5.0 for me to it's not as perfect as that, otherwise it'd be straightforward 🙁

I'm thinking of Bellerin in for Williams and then Shaqiri in for Antonio to finance it. But it feels bad - alternative is Mustafi and Pieters in for Lovren and Williams, but I don't really want Pieters... ugh

+ thanks - yeah, I love the big guns !

        Thanks G!

I've been thinking about doing Bellerin and Shaqiri in for Williams and Antonio in the first instance. I need to downgrade one of DC/Lukaku to pay for Capoue to be upgraded to Snoddy 🙁

Just don't know what's best - an alternative move as I said above is Pieters + Mustafi in for Lovren + Williams...

        1. Hurricane Gilbert
          • 10 Years

I really like the Bellerin pick. Shaqiri is an injury waiting to happen, I would rather downgrade one of Kaku/Costa. You have profited big from both of them I assume, and now fixtures are about to turn. If I would choose one, I would downgrade Lukaku. Can't ignore Costa's form and he seems to be fixture proof and more consistent than Kaku.

Bellerin or Mustafi is a must imo, and the other transfer should be a new 3rd striker or 3rd mid.

Not sure if that helps 😉

I *was* thinking, what about taking the -4 to go Bellerin, Arnie and a new 3rd striker in (Wilson?) for Williams, Antonio and Kaku? It all depends if Kaku is ruled out!!

I've been thinking Walcott for Antonio then kind of leaving it, but I really think an Arsenal defender is a good idea - only problem is I can't do it without sacrificing Antonio, or maybe downgrading Lukaku/Costa. Ugh.

With 0.1m left in the bank, I'm more on less settled on this team. I've got a concern, though...

I haven't watched all of the Liverpool games this season, but whenever I saw them play Matip seemed to be very dangerous on corners - was close to scoring against Swansea and Hull if I'm correct. Therefore, is there any Liverpool fan that can persuade me to go for Clyne instead, or is Matip a decent pick indeed?

Also, are there any errors in this team I need to fix as soon as possible?

    Pickford

    Son-Antonio-Firmino-Capoue
    Aguero-Benteke-Lukaku

    Foster; Williams-Romeu-Amat

    0FT, 6.1 ITB

Just short of doing Capoue to Sanchez

    A. Antonio to Sanchez (-4)
    B. Defender (all have poor fixtures) to Spurs/Arsenal defense (-4)
    C. Williams and Capoue to Smith and Sanchez (-8)
    D. Something else?
    E. take no hit

      E.

Team is just fine for this week. If you won't captain Sanchez (which I think may be the case as you already have Kun), then bringing him in for a hit for Antonio may easily backfire. I wouldn't advise taking a hit for a defender, either.
