A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is selling Antonio a big over reaction?

Like many I am not that happy about the prosepect of losing money
on him, however when i look for an alternative (already have walcott)
the best option for next week looks to be Antonio himself

At home to Sunderland, it matters little what his official position is.He will
be operating as a winger and will have plenty of opportunities against a woeful
    Sunderland team.

Selling now just looks plain wrong

I dont see him as a 4.5 wingback at all, that is just silly talk. Most of his great stats
this season have been from that position. His worst game was when they tried to play him
        as a striker

I don't want him anymore but I just can't sell him ahead of Sunderland. Next week for sure if he blanks.

Same, he going after Sunderland for sure, but for that fixture I
struggle to see a better midfielder in that price range. If someone can give
me one would be keen to know who. Dont want to double on Pool so who
        else is there?

Arno or Siggy are both options.
Last year we were advised to drop Antonio for Lanzini as Antonio was playing back. I remember which one the better pick was. Fact is that Antonio knows where the goals are and if he's on the pitch in any position then he is a threat.

Mind you, looking at the stats for the current gameweek, and he did pretty badly.
Only one touch in the penalty box. Maybe should kick his backside into touch after all

I noticed a fairly well known poster here write off Allen bcos his improvement in stats is very recent and 'those points are historic, and don't get added to the score now if you buy him.'
Same guy wants people to get Austin and back the form which is as plain as the nose on your face.

I guess plenty of people on here tailor reasons to suit their conviction.

It funny how people are assuming he is just the next Capoue.
He could be so much better than that, basically we dont know, but to dismiss him
      is a little silly

    2. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

I think with Allen a big attraction is also his price... For 4.8 he doesn't need to do much to offer great value. I think the point with Austin isnthat from an FPL perpsective he will have the law of averages on his side. He is on pens & southampton channel everything up to him plus has a track record of getting goals & points... Whereas Allen's track record is as a holding mdfielder, usually the kiss of death for FPL points, but he has a bit more of an involved role this year which is comtributing to his recent good form.

      1. The Fantastic Mr Fox

Allen is playing as a No. 10. And he has had a past history of doing well in Swansea. I like these players who were good once and then find the same form again. Makes them a bit more reliable. Ofcourse, austin is the same. I rate both of them

I identified Allen before GW6 on WC from underlying stats but couldn't bring myself to get him for Capoue obviously. 4 goals later I want for 0.1 less than my Capoue profit and I'll take a hit to get him. His numbers are real. Better underlying stats than Bony or Arnie last 5

Question is , is Allen a good Fifth midfielder replacement for Capoue? In many ways not as he would give a benching headache. He makes a more natural cheap Fourth midfielder, and the additional funds used to buy Bellerin over a 4.5 defender

You really reckon he's a good 4th mid, Trigg? Stats aren't great but need someone below 5.6 to replace Puncheon. Thinking Allen is the man

Im wondering if something not quite right with him. His confidene with
penalties seems well down, a poor display against Barcelona followed by another against Southampton
could start to make his place questionable especially with Lukaku and Costa performing so well

Is he even captainablenow when the threat of a benching is always there, especially for the very games
you would want to captain him for

Just crunched the numbers for the Bonkwers captain picks and Aguero nowhere near the top

I think they are. Chelsea are playing west ham ( who look pretty bad) and they have Batshuayi who can play instead.

Plus Chelsea are only 3 points behind the league leaders so league is still more important.

I'd love Bellerin (Walker may well be rotated) but other than that Clyne Holebas Cameron is a good defence for the forseeable. Allows a good front 8 too

Siggy is going to become a serious option. About 3 bad fixtures between now and end of the year.

Why is KDB showing 0 points for this week in his information section. Makes no sense. Should be 2. Can someone else check this?

So tempting to do Hazard to Theo, Chelsea next few fixtures all against solid defensive teams but watching him v leics just makes me wanna hold. Alonso has given Chelsea so much more with width meaning Hazard can play more centrally and he's on pens. Theo such a good pick though. Tough decisions this season

Alonso and Hazard look good. But really don't like those fixtures until GW15 if looking at getting them in. If I had Hazard would be hard to lose now though.

This the problem. Think most here would say Theo and Siggy a better combo than Hazard Snoddy so may get rid

With Walcott already starting to think KDB might be more essential than Sanchez. KDB and Kun is a lot invested in City attack but still.

Starting to think this is the way to go. Think KDB can match Kun or Sanchez. Take Mane down to Firmino for some cash allows you more options than just Austin or Wilson up front also Pieters to fodder gives some more cash too.Basically a better 352 than mine and what I would do with WC.

To be fair so is Cameron and Pieters lot more likely to get defensive baps. Plus you'd think Pieters bit more nailed. I went Cameron though just coz oop too tempting

My choice of Cameron is because the season is one with cleanies a rarity. I therefore value Cameron's slightly better attacking edge over Pieters more defensive baseline.

I would but then I don't have kun so I'm a bit biased. Thinking of not capping kun for a home game is the exact reason I'm not too fussed I don't own him though
