A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Evans - Suspended
Friend - Not Interested in Keeping
Kone - Doubtful, and Sunderland are useless right now.

Bolasie - Worth Keeping for another week, right?
    Hazard - Keep Him?

Should I use My 2 FT on defenders?

Evans and Kone out for Holebas and Cameron is what I'd do. There's players better value than Hazard right now but he's a good differential amongst those of us trying

    Eden Hazard
    Pros
*On his day best player in the league (apart from kun and maybe Joe Allen)
    *Nailed due to no Europe
    *On pens
*Alonso has given Chelsea so much more width thus giving Hazard much more room centrally
*Often the player furthest up pitch

    Cons
*Too often it's not his day
*Chelsea fixtures not great short term
*Jury still out on whether Chelsea have turned the corner
    *9.8 a lot of money

    Conclusion
Think there's enough doubt and other good options to not have Hazard BUT if you own him have to keep. Could well become 'essential' very quickly

The only option then is Son out for a 5th mid type of player, Allen, Fer, King, Phillips and so on. Or you could downgrade both Kosc and Walker but that is obviously mental.

Ok great, fully accept that it is blasphemy in these parts, but the guy leading my mini league is ranked 974 in the world and has never owned Aguero this season. Yes, he can punish us like no one else in the past with multiple examples over the past few seasons, but might me be past his prime now at 28? Queue the overreactive I captain aguero always peanut gallery, but as the most expensive player in the game, seems like the value hasn't been there this year. Are we looking at the best in the game having peaked already?

Weren't we all having the same discussion last year for the first 7 weeks?

You will always be able to find someone who has nailed all their picks without Aguero and has more points than you as a result.

What about the other players in your league without Aguero, they cant all be top 1k

Aguero scoring lots of goals when fit is one of the most predictable things in EPL and hence worth staying on and captaining if you want predictable returns.

Planning on fielding this AOA team in GW9

    Heaton
    Kos, Williams
Sanchez (C), Sterling, Antonio, Snoddy, Allen
    Aguero, Costa, Lukaku

Pickford, Amat, A Smith, M Wilson

Had a fairly rubbish GW8 with the armband on Aguero. Anything worth a hit? Did Capoue to Allen for my FT. No funds to get Walcott in without taking a hit, happy to give Antonio a run against Sunderland.

Yes but I have watched WBA defend ok have a CS for 80+ minutes most macthes and then just bottle it in the last minutes of the game.
Also, Amat has the best overall fixtures for the season IMHO and if you choose to draft in Pieters for a hit now, you might as well have to take another hit to get him out once the run of fixtures is over.

Insane thought for the day. See what happens tomorrow but right now my planned front 2 in a 352 is.... Wait for it
    Bony and Sturridge.
No form but love the fixtures.
Oh and just for extra stupidity this means Kun gone too. 🙂

      Is your planned 5
Capoue Allen Son Stanislas and Antonio?

Excellent idea. No seriously it is Sanchez KDB Sterling Walcott Firmino. It's a double up on City Pool and gunners attack. The second forward can be up to 8 mil.

I've already responded to you that Allen stats blow Bony and Arnie out of the water. Sturridge sick note pick is just weird.

I know I have lost the plot and not even had a beer all night. Happy days. The best diff ever 1% chance if that. Total failure 99% chance. I like my odds. 🙂

B first and then address Rondon but might spread it out over 2 more weeks beyond this game week to avoid hits. With no template this season hits are like crack, easy to get hooked and hard to ween yourself off.

WB fixtures so bad I like 352 so Rondon to fodder 4.5. Redmond to Walcott. Antonio good for a week or two.

    Is this crazy talk
    Antonio >> Joe Allen

I cash in on Antonio classed as midfielder playing RB for Stoke no10 man Allen with kind fixtures to boot.

I also have Capoue selling at 4.9 so in a few weeks could turn him into Son/Lallana/Siggy leaving Joe Allen as a 5th Mid and also making some cash on the wee man $$$$$

    What's not to like right?

What did you think if Sterling's performance? I haven't seen he game yet but it looked like a change in formation from the lineups. Was he playing as a wingback? Is this why people are selling?

Feel I need a bit of to tinkering - debut season as a member and I seem to be not following the consensus enough!

    So thoughts on the below:

    A) Valencia to Mustafi
    B) Williams to Holebas
    C) Redmond to Stanislas/Bojan
    D) Capoue to Allen
    E) Williams & Redmond to Holebas & Chadli (-4)

Other mids are Sanchez, Firm & Son.

Only B makes sense but you will have to endure a 1 match ban because of the 4 YCs.
or just sell Capoue for cash since he isnt your playing mid.

    De Gea/Jakupovic
    Blind/Walker/Davies/Daniels/Mcauley

    Sterling/Sanchez/Walcott/Capoue/Barry

    Ibrahimovic/Lukaku/Negredo

1 FT. I'm thinking Sanchez -> Couthino and Ibra -> Kun for this week. Any objections?
